The Current Status of Research on the Integration of Sexual and Reproductive Health and HIV Services.

Integration of services for sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and HIV has been widely promoted globally in the belief that both clients and health providers benefit through improvements in quality, efficient use of resources, and lower costs, helping to maximize limited health resources and provide comprehensive client-centered care. This article builds on the growing body of research on integrated sexual SRH and HIV services. It brings together critical reviews on issues within the wider SRH and rights agenda and synthesizes recent research on integrated services, drawing on the Integra In

Environmental and occupational risks to reproductive health in women service members and veterans.

Women have played a vital role in the U.S. military for decades, with their presence steadily increasing. However, despite this growth, research on the unique occupational and environmental exposures they face remains limited, highlighting the need for greater understanding to improve reproductive health outcomes. Chemical exposures such as burn pit emissions, airborne particulates, heavy metals, and pesticides can disrupt hormone regulation and pose risks for fertility, miscarriage, preterm birth, and congenital anomalies. Additional risks include unsafe water sources, contaminated soil, incr

A call to safeguard sexual and reproductive health information and services during Ebola outbreaks.

The recent Ebola virus disease (EVD) outbreaks in 2021 exemplify how sexual and reproductive health services are too often considered unessential during health emergencies. Bleeding for reasons other than EVD, such as pregnancy complications or rape, can be construed as EVD symptoms, reinforcing fear and stigmatisation, and delaying timely access to adequate care. In this commentary, we urgently call on all humanitarian actors to integrate the Minimum Initial Services Package for Sexual and Reproductive Health in Crisis Situations into current and future EVD preparedness and response efforts.

Exploring preferences to accessing sexual and reproductive health services: A qualitative study of adolescents' and service provider perspectives.

BACKGROUND: Understanding what adolescents want and how preferences are likely to vary among different groups is important to make the healthcare system responsive to the needs of adolescents and to maximize service utilization. Despite this, evidence is scarce in this aspect. Therefore, this study aimed to explore preferences for accessing Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) services from the perspective of adolescents and health care providers in the South Ethiopia Regional State. METHODS: A phenomenological qualitative study was conducted from September 04 to October 15, 2023. Seven Focus

Utilization of sexual and reproductive health services among construction worker women in southern Ethiopia.

BACKGROUND: In Ethiopia, the utilization of sexual and reproductive health services (SRH) is alarmingly inadequate, leading to higher rates of maternal and newborn mortality. Disparities in accessing sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services exist among different population groups, with construction worker women at a higher risk of experiencing such issues. We investigated the utilization of sexual and reproductive health services and associated factors among construction worker women in Southern Ethiopia. METHOD: We conducted a cross-sectional study among construction worker women (15-49

Asian women's use of specialist Contraception, Sexual and Reproductive Health Services in Leicester, UK.

BACKGROUND: There is evidence to suggest that Asian women in the UK have specific contraceptive and sexual health needs. It has been reported that Asian women may use less reliable contraceptive methods and that cultural influences can affect access to sexual health services. As part of a wider needs assessment project we compared Asian women's usage of our specialist Contraception, Sexual and Reproductive Health Services to that of non-Asian women. METHODS: An anonymous questionnaire was offered to all service users between October and December 2007. Data were analysed separately for Asian a

Opinions on integrating couple counselling and female sexual reproductive health services into Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision services in Lilongwe, Malawi.

BACKGROUND: Couples HIV Counselling and Testing (CHCT) has been found to be potentially beneficial than individual HIV Counselling and Testing for prevention and treatment of HIV. However, there are few health care opportunities for men and women to access health services together, leading to underutilization of CHCT service. Integrating female Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) services into male-dominated service could be more effective than trying to integrate men's health services into female-dominated health services. A potential site for male-female service integration could be Volunta

Impact of the adolescent and youth sexual and reproductive health strategy on service utilisation and health outcomes in Zimbabwe.

Poor reproductive health among youth and adolescents threatens their future health and economic wellbeing in Zimbabwe amidst a high HIV/AIDS prevalence. This study evaluates the impact of a multi-pronged adolescent sexual and reproductive health (ASRH) strategy implemented by government of Zimbabwe between 2010 and 2015 to improve ASRH in terms of the uptake of condoms and HIV testing as well as outcomes in terms of sexually transmitted infection (STI) prevalence and HIV prevalence. We combine the difference in difference and propensity score matching methods to analyse repeated Zimbabwe demog

Investigating the relationship between health and gender equality: What role do maternal, reproductive, and sexual health services play?

Examining the causal nexus between health services and gender equality is of paramount significance in policy formulation and academic inquiry. This paper concentrates on maternal, sexual, and reproductive health, offering a critical narrative review of empirical research exploring the causal relationship between enhanced women's health, stemming from either overall healthcare amelioration or specific interventions, and broader gender equality objectives. A conceptual framework is devised to elucidate the causal pathways between health and gender equality across various dimensions. The final r

Use of reproductive and sexual health services among female family planning clinic clients exposed to partner violence and reproductive coercion.

To examine the associations of recent intimate partner violence (IPV) and reproductive coercion (RC) with frequency of use of reproductive and sexual health services, a cross-sectional survey was administered to 16-29 year old women seeking care in five family planning clinics (n = 1,262). We evaluated associations of recent experiences of IPV, RC, or both IPV and RC with recent care seeking for pregnancy testing, emergency contraception, and sexually transmitted infection testing using multinomial logistic regression. Sixteen percent of respondents reported IPV and 13.5 % reported RC in the p
