Immobilized N-chlorosuccinimide as a friendly peptide disulfide-forming reagent.

A novel immobilized N-chlorosuccinimide resin was developed for peptide disulfide bond formation in combinatorial libraries. The resin is prepared in a simple two-step process from commercial starting materials. Disulfide formation is initiated by adding a peptide solution to the resin, and excess reagent is removed by a convenient filtration upon completion of disulfide formation. Completion of disulfide formation is rapid and clean, as demonstrated by the oxidation of a small nonapeptide library. This immobilized reagent allows a wider scope for the use of N-chlorosuccinimide-based disulfide

Overcoming the Limitations of Protein A: Evolution of Bacterial Protein-Based and Synthetic Affinity Ligands for High-Performance IgG Purification.

Monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) are widely used as therapeutic molecules for the treatment of serious diseases, primarily cancer. The market for mAbs is one of the fastest-growing segments of the biopharmaceuticals industry. Purification is a crucial stage in the production of mAbs. While staphylococcal protein A (SpA) affinity chromatography remains the gold standard in industrial mAb purification, its limitations-low alkaline stability and insufficient binding capacity of SpA, as well as the need for harsh acidic elution conditions-have driven extensive efforts for novel progressive affinity li

Visualization of the Embryonic Great Vessels Using Plastic Resin Injection.

Accurate visualization of embryonic vasculature provides critical insights into cardiovascular development and the origins of congenital heart defects. Here, we describe a protocol for a low-viscosity plastic resin injection into the fetal mouse heart, which then polymerizes to create stable casts of the great vessels. These casts preserve fine vascular architecture and enable the detection of structural abnormalities, such as aortic arch artery anomalies and ventricular septal defects. This method provides a robust and reproducible approach for investigating both normal and pathological cardi

Using Archival Japanese Paper and Thermoplastic Resins to Prepare Fossils for Storage, Display, Transport, and Radiography.

Kozo washi is an archival-grade paper commonly used in the conservation of museum objects. This paper can be combined with widely used archival adhesives to form lightweight composites of natural fibers and thermoplastic resin, which can be used in fossil preparation. Unlike conventional gypsum compounds, epoxy, or metal supports, paper-resin composites are easily reversed and are made from archival materials, so they conform to modern conservation standards. We present the new "Mayborn Method," a suite of techniques for reconstructing fossil specimens while retaining suitability for radiograp

A novel solid-phase synthesis of highly diverse guanidines: reactions of primary amines attached to the T2 linker.

The reaction of primary amines with the T2 diazonium resin generates polymer-bound triazenes, which can in turn be acylated by the addition of isothiocyanate. The formed thioureas are readily transformed into the corresponding guanidines by the reaction with amines in the presence of mercury(II) oxide, tosyl chloride, or silver nitrate. This reaction sequence furnishes trisubstituted guanidines that are potentially useful pharmacophores.

Experimental laser fluorescence characteristics of initial caries lesions after resin infiltrant application.

INTRODUCTION: Initial caries lesions (ICLs) are most commonly treated using remineralization procedures with fluoride, alongside recommended improvements in oral hygiene. An alternative approach is the micro-invasive method of infiltration using low-viscosity light-curing resin (RI). The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of low-viscosity resin infiltration of natural, proximal initial carious lesions on changes in fluorescence under in vitro conditions. METHODS: The material consisted of n = 49 human permanent maxillary and mandibular premolars, extracted for orthodontic reasons

Preparation of High-Toughness Lignin Phenolic Resin Biomaterials Based via Polybutylene Succinate Molecular Intercalation.

Lignin has many potential applications and is a biopolymer with a three-dimensional network structure. It is composed of three phenylpropane units, p-hydroxyphenyl, guaiacyl, and syringyl, connected by ether bonds and carbon-carbon bonds, and it contains a large number of phenol or aldehyde structural units, resulting in complex lignin structures. This limits the application of lignin. To expand the application range of lignin, we prepared lignin thermoplastic phenolic resins (LPRs) by using lignin instead of phenol; these LPRs had molecular weights of up to 1917 g/mol, a molecular weight dist

Improving 2-Chlorotrityl Chloride (2-CTC) Resin Activation.

Used in solid-phase peptide synthesis (SPPS) for peptides with an acid termination, the 2-chlorotrityl chloride (2-CTC) resin is highly susceptible to moisture, leading to reduced resin loading and lower synthetic yields. It is therefore recommended that the resin be activated with thionyl chloride (SOCl2) before peptide assembly. Here we present an optimized procedure for resin activation that minimizes the use of SOCl2 as the activation reagent and reduces the activation time. Additionally, we demonstrate the feasibility of reusing the 2-CTC resin when following the activation protocol, achi

Gamma radiation cured polyester resin for restoration of cultural heritage wood.

In the process of restoring and conserving cultural heritage artifacts and documents, a wide range of coatings based on resins and adhesives are used, including natural products and various types of synthetic polymers. The aim of this study was to examine the effectiveness of polyester-based resins with polymeric monomers cured by gamma radiation without a catalyst. These resins are typically used to impregnate wooden artifacts that have been compromised by insect damage and cannot be consolidated using other methods. Gamma radiation has been effectively used to treat cultural heritage objects

Increased Recovery of Gold Thiosulfate Alkaline Solutions by Adding Thiol Groups in the Porous Structure of Activated Carbon.

Thiosulfate leaching combined with ion-exchange resins is an innovative alternative for gold recovery. According to the properties of activated carbon, it could replace resins in the gold recovery process, improve efficiency, and reduce operating cost. In this research, the adsorption process of gold thiosulfate complex on thiol-modified activated carbon was studied. Thioglycolic acid (ATG) was impregnated in activated carbon, and its adsorption ability was tested with synthetic solutions of gold and sodium thiosulfate (Au 10 mg·L-1, Na2S2O3 0.1 mol·L-1, pH = 10.0). Carbon was characterized by

Evaluation of chromatographic resins for high efficacy separation of radium from chemical analogues.

The separation of Radium (Ra) from interfering chemical analogues is of major importance for both the accurate measurement of Ra-226 in environmental samples and the preparation of radium targets destined for medical isotope production. The adsorption behavior of Ra, Barium (Ba), and Strontium (Sr) was investigated on multiple crown-ether-based proprietary extraction chromatographic resins developed by TrisKem Int. Among these, the TK101 resin, characterized by a novel room-temperature ionic liquid (RTIL) dual extractant-solvent system, demonstrated enhanced affinity and selectivity, particula

Oleyl alcohol-enhanced embedding resin for histological analysis of non-decalcified hard tissue.

Several acrylate-based materials are commercially available as embedding resins for the histological analysis of non-decalcified hard tissues, including implants. However, commercial embedding resins are imported, expensive, and take a long time to buy. We conducted several tests to apply a mixture of methyl methacrylate and oleyl alcohol (oleyl Alc) as an embedding resin on a non-decalcified bone specimen. Further, we observed differences in the compressive strength of the block resin and the fused bone sample, changes in crystallinity, and a hydrophilic change in the block. Hematoxylin and e

Chemical characterization and phytotoxicity assay of Novolac phenolic foam resin from healthcare services: Challenging environmental liability.

Novolac phenolic foam resin (NPFR), a polymer of phenol and formaldehyde, is used in healthcare to ensure thermal stability of cold chain products. Post-use, NPFR is classified as non-hazardous solid waste and disposed of in landfills without prior treatment. However, it contains formaldehyde and phenol, two well-established toxicants, posing environmental and health risks. The full extent of these risks has not been evaluated, raising concerns about NPFR disposal. This study investigates the chemical and toxicological properties of NPFR to assess its environmental implication and the potentia

Characterisation, release and migration of phenolic compounds from resoles used in polyester-phenol coatings intended for food contact materials.

Resoles are multifarious pre-polymeric resins produced by the condensation of basic chemicals phenols, formaldehyde and optionally aliphatic alcohols like butanol. They are widely used as cross-linkers to form resistant internal coatings on metal surfaces of cans, containers or closures. Although the application of resoles is common in food contact, usually little is known about their exact composition, the toxicological hazards of their individual constituents and the migration of phenolic compounds, e.g., of the potentially endocrine-disrupting chemical bisphenol F. Our study fills major gap

Modified microabrasion protocol associated with resin infiltration. Two case reports.

Resin infiltration is an alternative for arresting and masking white spot lesions (WSLs). However, depending on their extent, depth, and activity, the voids within their body may not be completely filled by the infiltrant, leaving a certain degree of porosity inside the infiltrated lesion. The two case reports presented in this article aim to propose a modified microabrasion protocol for treating the enamel surface before resin infiltration to improve the esthetic outcome of teeth presenting inactive WSLs. The clinical procedures are described step by step based on data from the scientific lit
