The State of the Nitric Oxide Cycle in Respiratory Tract Diseases.

This review describes the unique links of the functioning of the nitric oxide cycle in the respiratory tract in normal and pathological conditions. The concept of a nitric oxide cycle has been expanded to include the NO-synthase and NO-synthase-independent component of its synthesis and the accompanying redox cascades in varying degrees of reversible reactions. The role of non-NO-synthase cycle components has been shown. Detailed characteristics of substrates for the synthesis of nitric oxide (NO) in the human body, which can be nitrogen oxides, nitrite and nitrate anions, and organic nitrates

Fungi-Induced Upper and Lower Respiratory Tract Allergic Diseases: One Entity.

Introduction:Aspergillus can cause different allergic diseases including allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA) and allergic fungal rhinosinusitis (AFRS). ABPA is allergic pulmonary disease against Aspergillus antigens. AFRS is a type of chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) presented as hypersensitivity reactions to the fungal presence in sinuses. The aim of the present study was to clarify if ABPA and AFRS could be considered as a common disease entity. Methodology: The prospective cohort study included 75 patients with ABPA. Patients were divided into two groups and compared with each other:

[Clinical characteristics of chronic sinusitis with different lower respiratory tract diseases].

We determined the clinical characteristics of chronic sinusitis in patients with different lower respiratory tract diseases. Sinusitis was divided into three groups. The first group was sinusitis with bronchial asthma. The second group was sinusitis with chronic bronchitis, bronchiectasis or diffuse panbronchiolitis. This type of sinusitis is generally called sinobronchial syndrome (SBS). The third group was sinusitis without lower respiratory tract disease. Because the pathogenesis of these lower respiratory tract diseases differs with the diseases, the pathogenesis of sinusitis accompanied b…

[Endoscopic findings in horses with diseases of the upper respiratory tract].

With the aid of a flexible glassfibre endoscope, a 300 W cold light source and a special adapted camera, colour photographs of the upper respiratory tract of horses were taken. These pictures served to present especially the disease processes of the different areas of the upper respiratory tract which lead to a constriction of the lumen. These included proliferation in the nose, guttural pouch diseases and larynx diseases such as hemiplegia, subepiglottic cysts, epiglottic entrapment and rostral displacement of the plica palatopharyngica. Furthermore endoscopic findings of changes in the soft

[Broncaspin in the therapy of pediatric diseases of the respiratory tract].

A paediatric suspension of Broncaspin was administered to 32 children aged 2-12 yr hospitalised for acute respiratory infection of the respiratory apparatus or hyperpirexia with no evident location. The drug was given as the sole treatment in 9 cases, whereas combination with antibacterial drugs proved indispensable in the other 23 cases. The satisfactory results obtained, together with its excellent tolerability, show that the new preparation is active, and is capable of rapidly eliminating the symptoms, so that the general clinical picture is both evidently and persistently improved.

Modeling respiratory tract diseases for clinical translation employing conditionally reprogrammed cells.

Preclinical models serve as indispensable tools in translational medicine. Specifically, patient-derived models such as patient-derived xeno … this article, we discuss the applications and future potential of CR technology in modeling various respiratory tract diseases, including lung cancer, respiratory viral infections (such as influenza and Covid-19 and etc.), asthma, cystic fibrosis, respiratory papillomatosis, and upper aerodigestive track tumors. Furthermore, we discuss the potential utility of CR in persona …

Impact of nasopharyngeal microbiota on the development of respiratory tract diseases.

Knowledge of whether and how respiratory microbiota composition can prime the immune system and provide colonisation resistance, limiting consecutive pathobiont overgrowth and infections, is essential to improving the prevention and therapy of respiratory disorders. Modulation of dysbiotic ecosystems or reconstitution of missing microbes might be a possible measure to reduce respiratory diseases. The aim of this review is to analyse the role of nasopharyngeal microbiota in the development of respiratory tract disease in paediatric-age subjects. PubMed was used to search for all studies publish

The potential of methylxanthine-based therapies in pediatric respiratory tract diseases.

Caffeine, theophylline and theobromine are the most known methylxanthines as they are present in coffee, tea and/or chocolate. In the last decades, a huge experimental effort has been devoted to get insight into the variety of actions that these compounds exert in humans. From such knowledge it is known that methylxanthines have a great potential in prevention, therapy and/or management of a variety of diseases. The benefits of methylxanthine-based therapies in the apnea of prematurity and their translational potential in pediatric affections of the respiratory tract are here presented.

[The management for pediatric chronic rhinosinusitis with upper respiratory tract concomitant diseases].

Objective:To analyze the clinical impact of upper respiratory tract concomitant diseases in pediatrics chronic rhinosinusitis(CRS) and treatment methods, efficacy and timing of the concomitant diseases.Method:Two hundred and sixty-seven cases with CRS at a tertiary children's medical center from March 2013 to March 2015 were included in this study. The cases were divided into two groups according to the concomitant diseases. 66 cases without concomitant diseases were allocated into group A;201 cases with concomitant diseases were classified into group B. [Microflora of the upper respiratory tract in young children under normal conditions and in respiratory tract diseases. Microbial count of the upper respiratory tract in healthy children and in children with pneumonia].

The results of the inoculation of material taken from the anterior section of the nasal cavity and from the pharyngeal mucosa of 50 healthy young children and 298 acute pneumonia patients were analyzed. 23 microbial species were isolated. In the samples taken from the anterior section of the nasal cavity, monocultures were detected in 86 samples and 54 variants of associations including 2-4 species, in 139 samples. In the samples taken from the pharynx, monocultures were detected in 59 samples and 180 variants of associations including 2-6 species, in 282 samples. Differences in the contaminat

Respiratory Tract Manifestations of Inflammatory Bowel Disease.

Inflammatory bowel disease can manifest in many extraintestinal organ systems. The most frequently involved extraintestinal locations include the mucocutaneous, hepatobiliary, and ocular organ systems. The respiratory tract is less commonly involved and is therefore frequently overlooked. Consequently, it is believed that involvement of the respiratory tract in patients with inflammatory bowel disease is underreported. The pathogenesis is thought to be multifactorial, involving the common embryologic origin shared by the respiratory and luminal digestive tract, molecular mimicry, and immunolog
