Multifaceted Effect of Rubus Occidentalis on Hyperglycemia and Hypercholesterolemia in Mice with Diet-Induced Metabolic Diseases.

Metabolic syndrome is characterized by a combination of several metabolic disorders, including obesity, hyperglycemia, and hyperlipidemia. A simultaneous occurrence is one of the most crucial features of metabolic syndrome; therefore, we selected an animal model in which this would be reflected. We fed C57BL/6N mice a high-fat diet for 23 weeks to develop metabolic syndrome and examined the efficacy of Rubus occidentalis (RO) for hyperglycemia and hypercholesterolemia. Oral administration of RO for 16 weeks improved hyperglycemia as indicated by significantly decreased fasting glucose levels a

From Invasive Bramble to Functional Browse: A Translational Review of Rubus ulmifolius Schott for Sheep Nutrition.

Rubus ulmifolius Schott is an invasive bramble whose recurrently removed biomass may contain nutritionally useful leaves and young shoots. This narrative and translational review evaluates whether that biomass can be investigated as a candidate sheep supplement without encouraging its spread. Species-specific evidence shows marked seasonal and fraction-dependent variation in crude protein, fiber, lignin and tannin activity, whereas controlled sheep-feeding data remain scarce. Goat browsing observations and general studies of tannin-rich feeds support only indirect hypotheses regarding intake,

Analysis of the mechanism of antinociceptive action of niga-ichigoside F1 obtained from Rubus imperialis (Rosaceae).

We have previously verified that niga-ichigoside F(1) (NI), a triterpene isolated from Rubus imperialis, exhibits significant and potent antinociceptive action when evaluated in some pharmacological models of pain in mice. This effect was confirmed in other experimental models and also the mechanism of action has been evaluated. The antinociception caused by NI (60 mg kg(-1)) in both phases of the formalin test was significantly attenuated by intraperitoneal injection of mice with haloperidol (a dopaminergic antagonist, 0.20 mg kg(-1)) and L-arginine (precursor of nitric oxide, 600 mg kg(-1)).
