Coronavirus-mimicking nanoparticles (CorNPs) in artificial saliva droplets and nanoaerosols: Influence of shape and environmental factors on particokinetics/particle aerodynamics.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2, abbreviated as SARS-CoV-2, has been associated with the transmission of infectious COVID-19 disease through breathing and speech droplets emitted by infected carriers including asymptomatic cases. As part of SARS-CoV-2 global pandemic preparedness, we studied the transmission of aerosolized air mimicking the infected person releasing speech aerosol with droplets containing CorNPs using a vibrating mesh nebulizer as human patient simulator. Generally speech produces nanoaerosols with droplets of <5 μm in diameter that can travel distances longer

Artificial feeding-based oral secretion collection system and multi-omics analysis reveal insecticidal saliva and salivary proteome in Orius nagaii.

Orius nagaii is an important predatory natural enemy in agricultural pest management. In this study, we established an artificial feeding system to collect oral secretions (OS) from O. nagaii and demonstrate that microinjection of either oral secretions (OS) or salivary reservoir extracts (SRE) into Ostrinia furnacalis larvae significantly increases larval mortality, indicating that the saliva of this natural enemy insect contains bioactive factors with insecticidal activity. Comparative proteomic analysis of OS and SRE identified 328 overlapping proteins as candidate salivary proteins. Integr

A 3D-simulation study of the deformation, tension, and stress of 3D-printed and conventional denture base materials after immersion in artificial saliva.

The worldwide application of digital technology has presented dentistry with transformative opportunities. The concept of digital dentures, incorporating computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) techniques, holds the promise of improved precision, customization, and overall patient satisfaction. However, the shift from traditional dentures to their digital counterparts should not be taken lightly, as the intricate interplay between oral physiology, patient comfort, and long-term durability requires thorough examination.

Structure-Barrier-Release Relationships of Low-Temperature ALD ZrO2 Thin Films on Co-Cr Alloys: Reducing Long-Term Co and Cr Ion Release in Artificial Saliva.

Co-Cr alloys are widely used in biomedical devices owing to their excellent mechanical properties and corrosion resistance; however, sustained metal-ion release in physiological environments remains an important materials concern. Low-temperature atomic layer deposition (ALD) enables the formation of conformal ceramic barriers that can restrict long-term metal-ion transport. In this study, nominally ~50 nm ALD-derived ZrO2 coatings were deposited on Co-Cr substrates manufactured by investment casting (CAST), CAD/CAM milling (MILLED), and laser powder bed fusion (PRINTED). The coatings were cha

[Some aspects concerning the electrochemical corrosion of the Gaudent-S dental alloy].

The potentiodynamic polarization methods have been employed to evaluate the corrosion resistance of the Gaudent-S dental alloy in a slightly acid artificial saliva (Fusayama's saliva; pH = 6.18), a slightly alkaline artificial saliva (Rondelli's saliva; pH = 7.75) and in an acid saline solution (NaCl/lactic acid; pH = 2.64). The results were compared with those obtained for copper and aluminium--the principal components of the studied alloy. In Fusayama's artificial saliva both the copper and Gaudent alloy exhibit close indentic cyclic voltammograms, typical for pitting corrosion; the pitting

In vitro assessment of dental erosion caused by clear aligners.

The primary objective of this in vitro study was to investigate the erosive potential of enamel under the use of clear aligners (CA), by simulating in vivo conditions experienced by patients who do not remove their CA during the consumption of acidic beverages. In addition, the difference in erosion protection conferred by artificial and human saliva was also evaluated. Sound-extracted human premolars (n = 20) had half of their surfaces protected with acid-resistant nail polish and were randomly distributed into two experimental groups (n = 10): teeth immersed in human saliva or artificial sal
