BACKGROUND/AIM: Clear cell sarcoma of soft tissue (CCSST) and conventional malignant melanoma (MM) are rare and aggressive tumours with similarities in morphology and the expression of melanocytic markers.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: We established two CCSST cell lines (FU-CCSST-1 and FU-CCSST-2) from soft tissues of the patella and supraclavicular. A MM cell line (FU-MM-1) was established from lymph node metastases of subungual malignant melanoma.
RESULTS: FU-CCSST-2 cells were transplantable to immunodeficient mice. Immunohistochemical studies demonstrated tumour cells were negative for cytoker

Clear Cell Sarcoma-like tumors of the gastrointestinal tract (CCSGT) are extremely rare entities to be diagnosed and treated. Histopathological diagnosis and treatment of such rare malignancies is a challenge. This case report describes the treatment of a non-metastatic rectal CCSGT. The patient underwent abdominoperineal resection (APR) followed by adjuvant radiation to a dose of 60Gy over 30 fractions over 6 weeks. This report represents the first documented case of a localized clear cell sarcoma-like tumor of the rectum successfully treated with adjuvant radiation therapy, highlighting the

Lower genital tract lesions are a frequent reason for gynecological consultation, and primary vaginal melanoma is an uncommon but aggressive form of malignancy. It primarily strikes in postmenopausal women and is often detected at an advanced stage, accounting for its poor prognosis. A 47-year-old Caucasian female patient was referred to our institution due to abnormal vaginal bleeding and a palpable lesion near the urethra, and subsequently, we present a case of primary vaginal melanoma. Histopathological and immunohistochemical studies confirmed the diagnosis of melanoma and differentiated i

Clear cell sarcoma is a rare and malignant soft tissue tumor that shows phenotypic and immunohistochemical overlap with cutaneous malignant melanoma; identification of biomarkers that differentiate clear cell sarcoma from malignant melanoma is therefore needed. In this study, we performed mutation analysis of BRAF and NRAS, investigated the EWSR1 gene rearrangement and evaluated the protein expression of insulin-like growth factor 2 and insulin-like growth factor 1R in 31 cases of malignant melanoma and 16 cases of clear cell sarcoma. By direct sequencing and high-resolution melting analysis,

BACKGROUND: Clear cell sarcoma (CCS) is a rare soft-tissue sarcoma. The most common metastatic sites for CCS are the lungs, bones and brain. CCS is highly invasive and mainly metastasizes to the lung, followed by the bone and brain; however, pancreatic metastasis is relatively rare.
CASE SUMMARY: We report on a rare case of CCS with pancreatic metastasis in a 47-year-old man. The patient had a relevant medical history 3 years ago, with abdominal pain as the main clinical manifestation. No abnormalities were observed on physical examination and the tumor was found on abdominal computed tomogra

Metastases to the sellar region and pituitary gland are rare and usually occur in advanced cancers, commonly breast and lung adenocarcinomas. Metastases from sarcomas to the pituitary gland are extremely rare. Here, we report the case of a 52-year-old man who had undergone surgery and radiotherapy for a clear cell sarcoma (CCS) of the knee at age of 42. The patient underwent resection of 2 distinct metastatic lung nodules 9 years later. During follow-up, he developed a persistent headache and diabetes insipidus. MRI revealed a sellar and suprasellar lesion, which was removed with an endoscopic

PURPOSE. To identify prognostic factors associated with clear cell sarcomas in 14 Chinese patients. METHODS. Medical records of 7 men and 7 women (mean age, 36 years) with histologically confirmed clear cell sarcoma of tendons and aponeuroses were reviewed. Patient demographics, tumour characteristics, and treatment modalities were retrieved. Prognostic factors associated with favourable 5-year survival were determined. RESULTS. The most affected sites were the thigh (n=5) and the foot (n=4); the mean time from symptom onset to diagnosis was 9.5 months. The tumour stage at diagnosis was IIA in

Clear cell sarcoma (malignant melanoma of soft parts) is a rare malignancy that is found in the young adult, and is generally located in the extremities of the limbs. In this study, a new case has been reported in a 24-year old male with no previous history of cutaneous melanoma. The tumor consisted of fusiform or round cells with clear or granulocytic cytoplasm and vesicular nuclei. The patient was treated by surgical resection of the tumor and postoperative radiotherapy. Eight years later, metastatic nodes were detected in the inguinal region. The histogenesis of this tumor has not yet been

The 7-year-old girl presenting with cushingoid appearance and gross hematuria was found to have a right renal tumor. Preoperative hormonal assay revealed an extremely high plasma ACTH level and elevated plasma cortisol levels. Right radical nephrectomy was performed, and pathology proved the tumor to be a clear cell sarcoma, a sarcomatous variant of Wilms' tumor, of the kidney. Postoperative plasma ACTH level declined dramatically and cortisol levels returned to normal, too. She received chemotherapy and radiotherapy then and gradually lost her cushingoid appearance. This is the first reported

The authors present a unique case of small cell variant of clear cell sarcoma of soft parts in a 42-year old woman. The tumor originally arose in the right flank of the soft tissues and ultimately developed both a local recurrence and multiple distant skin metastases two years and ten months thereafter. Nonspecific morphology of small blue round cell tumor was preserved at all microscopically verified sites and initially led to the spectrum of erroneous diagnoses such as an extraskeletal myxoid chondrosarcoma, Ewing sarcoma as well as malignant melanoma. The distinctive features of clear cell

Clear cell sarcoma (CCS), previously known as soft tissue melanoma due to similarities with melanoma, is a rare and aggressive neoplasm. This tumor predominantly occurs in the lower limbs and rarely affects the tongue, as well as other head and neck locations. To our knowledge, only five cases have been reported in the English literature. CCS presents many similar morphological and immunohistochemical features to those of melanomas, sarcomatoid cell carcinoma, angiomatoid histiocytoma, and Ewing sarcoma, which makes the diagnosis difficult, especially in cases of uncommon locations. The treatm

INTRODUCTION: Clear cell sarcoma of the gastrointestinal tract (CCS-GI) is an extremely rare and aggressive tumor, which often mimics other neoplastic processes. Because of this feature, its real incidence may have been underestimated, especially in the past when genetic tests were less available than nowadays. To date, less then 30 cases have been described in the literature on the GI tract.
CASE PRESENTATION: We report the case of a 69-year-old woman who presented with active rectal bleeding. After a negative colonoscopy, the patient underwent a video-capsule endoscopy. The latter detected

Clear cell sarcoma (CCS), is an uncommon malignant soft tissue neoplasm that displays melanocytic differentiation with a distinct molecular profile. It is very rarely localized in gastrointestinal tract. We reported the first case of a primary CCS arising in pancreas. A 36-year-old man presented with jaundice for one month. A preoperative abdominal computer tomography showed a low-density mass in the head of pancreas. Whipple procedure was performed and the tumor was resected. Pathological examination showed polygonal or fusiform cells arranged in a uniform nested to fascicular growth pattern

BACKGROUND: Dermal clear cell sarcoma (DCCS) is a rare malignant mesenchymal neoplasm. Owing to the overlaps in its morphological and immunophenotypic profiles with a broad spectrum of tumors exhibiting melanocytic differentiation, it is frequently misdiagnosed as other tumor entities in clinical practice. By systematically analyzing the clinicopathological characteristics, immunophenotypic features, and molecular biological properties of DCCS, this study intends to further enhance pathologists' understanding of this disease and provide a valuable reference for its accurate diagnosis.

A 26-year-old man presented with right facial pain for more than 20 days. Admission diagnosis was considered as jaw osteomyelitis. CT of the chest before surgery showed multiple bone destructions, which were considered as bone metastases. Then the 18F-FDG PET/CT was recommended for finding the primary tumor and evaluation of disease extent. 18F-FDG PET/CT revealed multiple abnormal foci at the skeleton and the left arm. Pathological examination and molecular analysis revealed the diagnosis of clear cell sarcoma. We present a case of clear cell sarcoma with multiple bone metastases, which is an

Kaposi sarcoma is a malignant vascular tumor consisting of multiple clinical subtypes and varying histopathologic patterns. We report a case of a 53-year-old African-American male with HIV/AIDS who presented multiple times with skin nodules, pain, and edema in his lower extremities, secondary to recurrent Kaposi sarcoma. The patient was treated with two courses of liposomal doxorubicin with improvement, but his symptoms recurred a third time. A biopsy specimen of one of the nodules showed prominent neoplastic cells of epithelioid morphology, some with clear-cell change, appearing to form rudim

Clear cell sarcoma (CCS) is an extremely rare malignancy. We report a case of metastatic CCS in which pain was successfully relieved with palliative stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT). The patient was a 57-year-old man diagnosed with CCS of the right heel five years prior. He had undergone seven surgical resections and chemotherapy (trabectedin and pazopanib) for the primary tumor and metastatic lesions. While receiving trabectedin therapy, he was referred to our facility for palliative radiotherapy. This was due to the rapid enlargement of a metastatic lesion in the right thigh. His sympto
