This clinicopathologic study concerns 19 cases of malignant hemangiopericytoma among 755 cases of soft tissue sarcomas. The age of the patients ranged from 18 to 76 years, with a median of 43 years. Tumors occurred on the trunk in 8, lower extremities in 5, the head in 3, and the retroperitoneum in 3. According to follow-up information, nine of the 19 patients had died. Carcinosarcomas of the female genital tract have generally been regarded as a type of sarcoma. Recent evidence suggests, however, that they may be more closely related to carcinoma. The histologic features of 29 carcinosarcomas with documented metastases were analyzed to study the relative importance of the carcinomatous and sarcomatous components and attempt to provide further evidence on the histogenesis of these neoplasms. Ten polysaccharides, isolated from various animal and plant sources, were selected for comparison with 2 bacterial polysaccharides, typical of Gram-negative endotoxins. A 37-year-old man with a 30-year history of recurrent anorectal ulceration developed a hemangiosarcoma of the rectum. This diagnosis was made based on histology and immunocytochemistry. We believe this is the fifth reported case of hemangiosarcoma of the rectum and is another example of a rare granulation tissue sarcoma.

Malignant small bowel tumours are rare, with about 320 deaths every year due to metastases. Tumours of differing histologic entitites (adenocarcinomas, leimyosarcomas, non-Hodgkin, lymphomas, carcinoids) are detected at late stages of the disease because of non-specific symptoms. Claudin-4 (CL-4) is a tight junction-associated protein that is expressed in most epithelial cells but absent in mesothelial cells. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the utility of CL-4 immunostaining for assisting in the differential diagnosis of mesothelioma. BACKGROUND: Poor awareness and knowledge of lumps and bumps can impact on patient outcomes and survival. Late referrals or false reassurance may lead to litigation proceedings. The aim of this study was to identify the litigation cost in sarcoma care and identify areas for improvement.
METHOD: Orthopaedic litigation between 1995-2010 in England and Wales was obtained from the National Health Service Litigation Authority. Soft tissue sarcomas are exceedingly rare, making up less than 1% of all solid malignancies. In the retroperitoneum, they tend to be large when diagnosed and are a therapeutic challenge to the surgical oncologist. Since 1930, 117 patients with well-documented osteogenic sarcoma of the skeleton and the soft tissues occurring in patients older than 60 years have been diagnosed and treated at Memorial Hospital for Cancer and Allied Diseases. Tumors with pathogenic DICER1 mutation are rare and encompass sporadic or hereditary benign, intermediate and malignant tumors. BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVES: Certain genetically defined undifferentiated round cell sarcomas, namely BCOR-CCNB3 and CIC-DUX4 positive, have been described. Here we present detailed clinicopathologic features and molecular results in such cases.
METHODS: Fifty one cases of undifferentiated round cell sarcomas, including 32 cases, tested for BCOR-CCNB3 and CIC-DUX4 fusions, by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction technique and 44 tumours, for CCNB3 immunostaining, were analyzed.

BACKGROUND: Soft tissue sarcomas of the hands and feet present a challenge for limb-preserving resections.
METHODS: A retrospective review of 19 patients with sarcomas of the hand or foot was done. Wide or local excision was performed in 14 patients (74%), and amputation in 5 patients (26%). Of the latter group, three amputations involved a digit or toe, and two (10%) were major amputations (one Syme amputation and one below-knee amputation).
