Measurement of the retinal nerve fibre layer with scanning laser polarimetry in patients with previous demyelinating optic neuritis.

OBJECTIVES: Subjective visual deficits are common after demyelinating optic neuritis despite the frequent return of normal visual acuity. Visual and electrodiagnostic tests have demonstrated evidence of these persisting functional abnormalities, which are thought to be secondary to demyelination and variable axonal loss in the optic nerve. Scanning laser polarimetry (SLP) is a new image analysis technique which uses the polarising properties of the retinal nerve fibre layer (RNFL) to produce a quantitative measure of its thickness. This study was carried out to assess the prevalence, extent, a

Retinal nerve fiber layer thickness in subgroups of multiple sclerosis, measured by optical coherence tomography and scanning laser polarimetry.

UNLABELLED: Optical coherence tomography (OCT) and scanning laser polarimetry (GDx ECC) are non-invasive methods used to assess retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness, which may be a reliable tool used to monitor axonal loss in multiple sclerosis (MS). The objectives of this study are (1) to compare OCT with the GDx ECC; (2) to assess and compare the RNFL thickness in subgroups of MS. Ophthalmologic examination and RNFL assessment by OCT and GDx were performed in 65 MS patients (26 relapsing-remitting (RRMS), ten secondary-progressive (SPMS), 29 primary-progressive (PPMS)). Retinal nerve fibre layer thickness measurements in childhood glaucoma: the role of scanning laser polarimetry and optical coherence tomography.

PURPOSE: A central diagnostic tool in adult glaucoma is the peripapillary retinal nerve fibre layer (pRNFL) thickness. It can be assessed by scanning laser polarimetry (SLP) or optical coherence tomography (OCT). However, studies investigating the relevance of pRNFL measurements in children are rare. This study aims to compare the glaucoma diagnosing ability of SLP and OCT pRNFL thickness measurements in a paediatric population. METHODS: This retrospective study included 105 children (glaucoma: 22 (21.0%); healthy glaucoma suspects: 83 (79.0%)) aged 4-18 years, examined with SLP (GDxPro/ECC,
