[Self-expanding metallic stents in malignant ureteral stenosis].

Self-expanding metallic stents were inserted into the ureters of two female patients (29 and 46 years old) with malignant ureteric stenosis, in the first patient caused by metastases of a malignant melanoma, in the second by retroperitoneal lymph-node metastases from a colon carcinoma. In the first patient the stent was introduced antegrade into the left ureter via a nephrostomy after balloon dilatation of the stenotic segment. She was subsequently without symptoms, but six weeks later the ureter got kinked just above the bladder due to continued tumour growth against the stent. After insertio

A pilot study of Spring Stopper Stents: Novel partially covered self-expandable metallic stents with anti-migration properties for EUS-guided hepaticogastrostomy.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: EUS-guided hepaticogastrostomy (EUS-HGS) is an effective salvage procedure when conventional endoscopic transpapillary biliary drainage is difficult or fails. However, the risk of stent migration into the abdominal cavity has not been resolved completely. In this study, we evaluated a newly developed partially covered self-expandable metallic stent (PC-SEMS) that has a spring-like anchoring function on the gastric side. METHODS: This retrospective pilot study took place at four referral centers in Japan between October 2019 and November 2020. We enrolled 37 cases co

Outcomes of EUS-guided choledochoduodenostomy as primary drainage for distal biliary obstruction with covered self-expandable metallic stents.

Background and study aims  Endoscopic ultrasonography-guided choledochoduodenostomy (EUS-CDS) is an alternative therapy for percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage. Outcomes of EUS-CDS for distal biliary tract obstruction with a covered self-expandable metallic stent (SEMS) as a primary drainage technique are unclear because there are few relevant reports. This study aimed to determine outcomes in patients undergoing EUS-CDS using SEMS as the primary drainage technique for malignant distal biliary duct obstruction. Patients and methods  This retrospective study was conducted at Aichi Cancer

Safety and Efficacy of Endoscopically Secured Fully Covered Self-Expandable Metallic Stents (FCSEMS) for Post-Bariatric Complex Stenosis.

BACKGROUND: The use of fully covered self-expandable metallic stents (FCSEMS) has opened the door to treat stenosis in the post-bariatric stomach. We hypothesized that endoscopically securing a FCSEMS would be technically feasible, effective, and safe for > 30-day dwell time. OBJECTIVES: To assess the technical feasibility, clinical efficacy, and safety of endoscopically secured FCSEMS in the stomach for > 30 days. METHODS: A retrospective review (September 2016 to April 2018) of consecutive patients who underwent FCSEMS suturing in the stomach at a single academic institution was reviewed.
