Sinus pericranii is a rare venous anomaly, representing a transosseous connection between the intracranial venous system and the epicranial venous system. We present an unusual case of bilateral frontal sinus pericranii in a 12-year-old boy, with associated lacrimation. Instead of the usual short bridging vein between the intra- and extracranial venous circulation, in our case the veins connecting the superior sagittal sinus and the left superior ophthalmic/orbital vein coursed intratabularly over a distance of several centimeters. To our knowledge, such a course has not previously been report

INTRODUCTION: Sinus pericranii (SP) is a rare vascular malformation characterized by abnormal communication between the intracranial and extracranial venous systems [1]. Sinus pericranii is most commonly seen in the distribution areas of the superior sagittal and transverse sinuses [2]. There are no uniform criteria for the etiology, pathogenesis, diagnostic criteria, treatment options, or prognosis of sinus pericranii [3].
CASE DESCRIPTION: In this paper, we present the diagnosis and treatment of a child admitted to our neurosurgery department in 2019 with rapidly growing frontal sinus peric

BACKGROUND: Sinus pericranii (SP) is a rare abnormal connection between the intracranial and extracranial venous drainage pathways through the osseous channels. Herein we present the case of a patient with growing SP, which was successfully treated using endovascular transvenous embolization through external compression with a plastic cup for preventing glue migration into subcutaneous veins.
CASE DESCRIPTION: A 9-month-old boy presented with a gradually growing mass on the midline cranial vertex after his birth, for which transvenous embolization was performed. A microcatheter was successful

INTRODUCTION: Sinus pericranii (SP) involves transosseous vessels that connect the intra- and extracranial venous systems. Accessory-type SP can be cured by surgical or endovascular treatment. Reports of recurrence are, however, rare.
CASE: A boy presented with a soft-tissue mass on the left parietal region of the head. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging revealed the congenital SP with several small transosseous vessels surrounded by an area of thin bone. At the initial surgery, the vascular mass was completely excised by coagulating and cutting the -transosseous vessels. The

Sinus pericranii is a rare vascular anomaly in which an abnormal communication exists between the extracranial venous system and the dural venous sinuses. The natural history is of increasing size and potential life-threatening complications, including thrombosis and haemorrhage. Thus surgical management is the mainstay of treatment. We present a unique case of spontaneous involution of two sinus pericranii in a 1-year-old patient, the second reported case of spontaneous involution in the literature, and the first in which regression occurred at such a young age. The clinical, diagnostic and m

BACKGROUND: Sinus pericranii (SP) is a rare vascular anomaly, with an uncertain etiology. Often discovered as superficial lesions, they can be primary or secondary in nature. Herein, we report a rare case of SP in the setting of a large posterior fossa pilocytic astrocytoma associated with a significant venous network.
OBSERVATIONS: A 12-year-old male presented with acute clinical deterioration in extremis with a 2-month history of lethargy and headaches. Outside plain computed tomography imaging revealed a large posterior fossa cystic lesion, probably a tumor, with severe hydrocephalus. Ther

INTRODUCTION: Sinus pericranii is a rare vascular malformation that connects the intracranial dural sinuses to the extracranial venous drainage system and is caused by either trauma or congenital defects. Although the majority of these vascular structures are due to trauma, some are congenital.
CASE REPORT: Herein, we report a 5-month-old patient with a very large and fluctuating subcutaneous mass over the occiput and the diagnosis of Crouzon's syndrome. The child presented with a large midline mass that on imaging, connected to the underlying torcular and was diagnosed as a sinus pericranii.

Crouzon disease is a form of craniosynostosis with the autosomal dominant mode of inheritance. Among the anomalies associated with craniosynostosis, aberrant dural sinus is well known. We report on identical twin sisters with Crouzon disease and sinus pericranii who were successfully treated surgically. In one of the sisters hydrocephalus was present, which eventually needed a shunt operation. The association of these anomalies is discussed.

BACKGROUND: Several somatic mutations in TRAF7 have been reported in cancers, whereas a few germline heterozygous mutations have been recently linked to a neurodevelopmental disorder, characterized by craniofacial dysmorphisms, congenital heart defects, and digital anomalies.
CASES: We report two subjects harboring de novo heterozygous missense variants in TRAF7, namely the recurrent 1964G>A(p.Arg655Gln) and the novel missense c.1204C>G(p.Leu402Val) variants. In addition to the typical hallmarks of the TRAF7-related disorder, both subjects presented with a recognizable "pear-shaped" skull due

INTRODUCTION: Crouzon's syndrome and sinus pericranii (SP) are rare entities. Only few cases having both the features are reported. SP most commonly drains in relation to superior sagittal sinus and their communication to major posterior dural sinuses is rare.
CASE REPORT: We report a rare case of Crouzon's syndrome with SP at a suboccipital location with termination of left transverse sinus into the SP draining further through the extracranial suboccipital and extravertebral cervical venous plexi into external jugular veins. Distal transverse sinus and sigmoid sinus on the left side were abs

BACKGROUND: Sinus pericranii is a rare asymptomatic communication between the intracranial and extracranial venous drainage pathways. The venous flow in this condition circulates through abnormal dilated veins in both directions.
PATIENT/METHODS: We describe an unusual location of an accessory sinus pericranii that involved the left frontal bone along with the superior orbital rim and the upper eyelid, with special focus on therapy.
RESULTS: The patient did not have any complication during the first and second surgery. Final outcome was excellent. The patient did not show any evidence of dis

Sinus Pericranii is a rare venous anomaly in which the communication between the intra- and extracranial venous system is constituted by a network of thin-walled veins that form a varix on the external table of the skull. This varix is continuous with the pericranial veins of the scalp. We describe a 31-year-old woman with frontal sinus pericranii treated using an original endovascular technique by transvenous approach combined with direct punction.

OBJECT: Sinus pericranii (SP) is a rare venous varix in an extracranial location connected to the intracranial venous system. The aim of this retrospective study was to report on 16 pediatric cases of SP with consideration of the preoperative evaluation of surgical risk.
METHODS: The study population consisted of 10 patients who had undergone surgery for SP and 6 patients with concomitant craniosynostosis and SP. The mean age of the patients at presentation was 3.7 years. To identify characteristics of SP with high operative risk, 8 cases in this report and 11 previously reported cases of SP

Abnormal venous drainage in patients with craniofacial anomalies is relativity uncommon. Sinus pericranii is a rare vascular malformation characterized by communication between intracranial dural sinuses and extracranial venous drainage systems. The association between sinus pericranii and amniotic band syndrome has not been described. We report on a 7-month-old girl diagnosed with amniotic band sequence who underwent posterior fossa decompression due to intracranial hypertension and Chiari malformation type I. The computed tomography and magnetic resonance identified the connection between th

BACKGROUND AND IMPORTANCE: The extracranial venous drainage of the brain is provided mainly by the jugular veins with the variable participation of extrajugular pathways.
CLINICAL PRESENTATION: Two cases of occipital sinus pericranii (SP) were observed. A 6-year-old girl presented with a progressively enlarging occipital lump; she was otherwise asymptomatic. An 8-year-old boy presented with mild nuchal headache. In the former case, neuroimaging examinations confirmed the diagnosis of SP; in the latter, SP was noticed on magnetic resonance imaging because it was neglected at physical examinati

A sinus pericranii (SP) is a rare transcranial vascular malformation caused by diploic emissary veins forming an irregular connection between a dural sinus and extracranial veins. It is generally considered a benign condition with few complications1. We report the case of a 5-year-old male patient who sustained a skull fracture from head trauma with development of an epidural hematoma that was traced to an underlying ruptured SP as the source. Non-contrast computer tomography (CT) confirmed epidural hematoma. Craniotomy for evacuation revealed an emissary venous connection along the skull frac
