Egypt has been plagued by many neglected tropical diseases since Pharaonic time. These diseases are Schistosomiasis, soil-transmitted helminthiasis, lymphatic filariasis, leishmaniasis and fascioliasis beside the epidermal parasitic skin diseases. Indeed, theses diseases still persist as public health problem in the country by the influence of demographic, socioeconomic and environmental obstacles. This study seeks for understanding the contribution of each factor in each obstacle in neglected tropical diseases perpetuation which in turn could help the governorate in planning integrated contro

Ivermectin (IVM) is a broad-spectrum anti-parasitic drug with significant anti-inflammatory properties. The emergence of treatment resistance to lindane, permethrin, and possibly malathion complicates the global strategy for management of common parasitic skin diseases such as scabies and head lice. In this regard. IVM has been safely and effectively used in the treatment of these common human infestations. In addition, IVM may be useful in inflammatory cutaneous disorders such as papulopustular rosacea where demodex may play a role in pathogenesis. Herein, we review the current applications o

BACKGROUND: A relatively underestimated facet of infectious diseases is the association of chronic bacterial and parasitic infections with cancer development. Therefore, we sought to evaluate the evidence regarding the association of such infections with the development of malignancy, excluding the overwhelming evidence of the association of Helicobacter pylori and cancer.
METHODOLOGY: We searched Pubmed, Cochrane, and Scopus without time limits for relevant articles.
RESULTS: There is evidence that some bacterial and parasitic infections are associated with cancer development. The level of

Tungiasis (sand flea disease) and cutaneous larva migrans (creeping eruption) are parasitic skin diseases in which the infectious agents only temporarily invade human skin. The parasites die in situ and eventually are eliminated by tissue repair mechanisms. Both diseases are zoonoses. Humans only accidentally become a host for animal hookworm larvae (resulting in cutaneous larva migrans), but get infected with Tunga penetrans as frequent as domestic animals. In travelers to tropical and subtropical regions tungiasis and cutaneous larva migrans are the most common imported skin diseases. The di

Visceral leishmaniasis is a parasitic disease with significant dermal tropism. The skin is an important site of infection contributing to parasite transmission to naïve sand flies, but understanding how parasitism of host skin and the related immune microenvironment supports or prevents skin parasite replication is now the focus of major investigation in the field of leishmaniasis research. Here, we review dermatoimmunology during visceral leishmaniasis (VL), dermal Leishmania parasite burden, and the role of skin parasitism in transmissibility to sand fly vectors. First, we discuss the epidem

BACKGROUND: Paragonimus heterotremus is a parasitic flatworm endemic to Southeast Asia that causes pulmonary and extrapulmonary infections. While more common in adults, pediatric cases are rare and often present atypically, posing diagnostic challenges. Eosinophilic granulomatous inflammation due to parasitic infection is especially difficult to identify in children. CASE PRESENTATION: A 9-year-old female child initially exhibited subcutaneous swelling and notable peripheral blood eosinophilia, resulting in two hospital stays without a conclusive diagnosis. Upon admission to our center, labora

Parasites and bacteria have co-evolved with humankind, and they interact all the time in a myriad of ways. For example, some bacterial infections result from parasite-dwelling bacteria as in the case of Salmonella infection during schistosomiasis. Other bacteria synergize with parasites in the evolution of human disease as in the case of the interplay between Wolbachia endosymbiont bacteria and filarial nematodes as well as the interaction between Gram-negative bacteria and Schistosoma haematobium in the pathogenesis of urinary bladder cancer. Moreover, secondary bacterial infections may compl

Skin sections from 71 dogs and 10 cats with bullous autoimmune skin diseases and various non-autoimmune dermatopathies were studied for the presence of immunoglobulins (canine IgG, IgM, IgA; feline IgG) and complement (canine C3) using the direct immunofluorescence method (DIF) and the indirect immunoperoxidase method (IIP). In cases of autoimmune skin diseases (9 dogs, 3 cats) both methods were of comparable sensitivity for the detection of epidermal deposits. In canine cases with non-autoimmune dermatopathies, epidermal immunoreactivity was found in 16.1% of cases with the DIF method, and in
