Sociodemographic factors predict outcomes and reveal spatial tumor patterns in glioblastoma.

BACKGROUND: Glioblastoma (GBM) is the deadliest malignant glioma of the central nervous system. Postsurgical functional impairment correlates with survival and is estimated using metrics such as extent and location of resection. This study uses machine learning to evaluate the predictive ability of baseline sociodemographic and lifestyle factors for forecasting postoperative functional outcomes in GBM patients. METHODS: Glioblastoma patients (N = 115) from the neurosurgery brain tumor service at Washington University were retrospectively identified. All patients underwent neuroimaging, surgic

Sociodemographic Factors Associated With Tissue-based Genomic Testing for Prostate Cancer.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the association of patient and area-level sociodemographic factors associated with the use of genomic classifiers (GC) testing for localized prostate cancer (PCa). Although GC can improve stratification of PCa risk and facilitate personalization of treatment decision making, the factors influencing a patient's use of GCs remains poorly characterized. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective study to identify patients who were diagnosed with localized PCa from 2012-2022 and received genomic testing. We compiled clinical, Area Deprivation Index (ADI), and health insurance in

Tubal factor infertility in Benin City, Nigeria - sociodemographics of patients and aetiopathogenic factors.

In Africa, infertility constitutes a major gynaecological complaint and causes enormous socio-psychological stress to the patients. This study examined retrospective data at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Benin City, Nigeria, over a 5-year period to determine the factors associated with tubal infertility. Tubal infertility was confirmed in 13.5% of the 1181 new cases of infertility over the study period. The mean age of the patients was 33.2+/-9.5 years. Over 65% were nulliparous and all socioeconomic classes were affected. Major associated factors included infections such as post-

Mini mental state examination: influence of sociodemographic, environmental and behavioral factors and vascular risk factors.

Age and education have been found to affect the Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE) score of elderly normals, but there have been no studies assessing the influence of environmental and behavioral factors on this test. We therefore administered the MMSE to 1437 normal elderly subjects in the setting of a stroke prevention study and correlated their results to 16 sociodemographic, environmental, and behavioral factors, and vascular risk factors. Study statistics composed of a multiple logistic regression analysis and graphical models revealed the relations between variables in greater detail.

Sexual dysfunctions and difficulties in denmark: prevalence and associated sociodemographic factors.

Sexual dysfunctions and difficulties are common experiences that may impact importantly on the perceived quality of life, but prevalence estimates are highly sensitive to the definitions used. We used questionnaire data for 4415 sexually active Danes aged 16-95 years who participated in a national health and morbidity survey in 2005 to estimate the prevalence of sexual dysfunctions and difficulties and to identify associated sociodemographic factors. Overall, 11% (95% CI, 10-13%) of men and 11% (10-13%) of women reported at least one sexual dysfunction (i.e., a frequent sexual difficulty that

Effect of breastfeeding and sociodemographic factors on visual outcome in childhood and adolescence.

BACKGROUND: It has been suggested that early life factors, including breastfeeding and birth weight, program childhood myopia. OBJECTIVE: We examined the relation of reduced unaided vision (indicative of myopia) in childhood and adolescence with infant feeding, parental education, maternal age at birth, birth weight, sex, birth order, and socioeconomic status. DESIGN: Three British cohorts recruited infants born in 1946 (n = 5362), 1958 (n = 18,558), and 1970 (n = 16,567). Adjusted odds ratios (ORs) for unaided vision of 6/12 or worse at ages 10-11 and 15-16 y from each cohort were pooled by

Sociodemographic factors that contribute to the development of extrapulmonary tuberculosis were identified.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: The majority of cases of tuberculosis occur among males, but the majority of cases with extrapulmonary tuberculosis (EPTB) occur among females. The aim of this study was to identify independent risk factors associated with EPTB. METHODS: A multivariable logistic regression model was used. Eighteen thousand, six hundred seventeen cases of tuberculosis, notified through the French national mandatory network between 1 January 1997 through 31 December 2001, were included in the analysis. Because of multiple interactions, different multivariable models were built for eac
