Why may citrate sodium significantly increase the effectiveness of transarterial chemoembolization in hepatocellular carcinoma?

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) represents the third cause of cancer death in men worldwide, and its increasing incidence can be explained by the increasing occurrence of non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). HCC prognosis is poor, as its 5-year overall survival is approximately 18 % and most cases are diagnosed at an inoperable advanced stage. Moreover, tumor sensitivity to conventional chemotherapeutics (particularly to cisplatin-based regimen), trans-arterial chemoembolization (cTACE), tyrosine kinase inhibitors, anti-angiogenic molecules and immune checkpoint inhibitors is limited. The physiological and ventilatory responses to repeated 60 s sprints following sodium citrate ingestion.

This study examined the influence of sodium citrate on changes in selected blood, ventilatory and performance variables in response to intermittent sprint exercise. Eight moderately active male students completed three tests over a 6 day experimental period. The first test involved incremental exercise to determine VO2 max, while the second and third tests were identical in nature and involved five 60 s sprints cycling against 0.075 kg kg-1 body mass (BM); each of the five sprints was separated by 5 min passive seated recovery. Three days separated the VO2 max test and first interval test, whi

Sodium citrate buffer improves pazopanib solubility and absorption in gastric acid-suppressed rat model.

Pazopanib exhibits pH-dependent solubility and its absorption depends primarily on the stomach pH. Significant decrease of pazopanib absorption by coadministration with proton pump inhibitors in clinical situation need to be overcome. Thus, the purpose of this study is firstly to investigate the effect of acidic beverages and sodium citrate buffer on the solubility of pazopanib and secondly to examine the effect of sodium citrate buffer on pazopanib absorption in a rat model with esomeprazole-mediated gastric acid suppression. Pazopanib solubility decreased with increasing pH of sodium citrate

Assessing the survival of MRC5 and a549 cell lines upon exposure to pyruvic Acid, sodium citrate and sodium bicarbonate - biomed 2013.

Lung cancer is among the most prevalent and deadly cancers in United States. In general, cancer cells are known to exhibit higher rates of glycolysis in comparison to normal cells. In attempting to exploit this unique cancer-dependent ATP generation phenomenon, it was our hypothesis that upon exposure to organic inhibitors of glycolysis, cancer cells would not survive normally and that their growth and viability would be vastly decreased; essential glycolytic ATP production will be exhausted to the point of collapsing energy utilization. Furthermore, we hypothesize that no negative effect woul

Binding interaction of sodium benzoate, potassium sorbate and sodium dihydrogen citrate with BSA as food preservatives: in Vitro analysis and computational studies.

Advanced glycation end products (AGEs) are obtained intermediate from nonenzymatic reactions between reducing sugars and proteins, lipids, or nucleic acids and it's associated with diabetic complications. Today, potassium sorbate (PS), sodium citrate (CIT) and sodium benzoate (SB) were widespread used as food preservatives that can easily enter biological matrices. Here, the interaction between glycosylation Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) and food preservatives individually and combination of two and three was studied by biochemical and simulation analysis. The results revealed that an increase in

A Study on the Recycling of Sodium Citrate (Na3Cit) Waste Solution via Bipolar Membrane Electrodialysis.

Citric acid-based leaching is gaining attention as an environmentally friendly alternative to conventional sulfuric acid-based processes for recycling spent lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), but it generates sodium citrate (Na3Cit)-rich wastewater that is difficult to treat using conventional technologies. Bipolar membrane (BM) electrodialysis (BMED), particularly a two-compartment BM/cation-exchange membrane (CEM) configuration, offers a simple and energy-efficient solution for simultaneously recovering acids and bases from such wastewater without external reagents, enabling a closed-loop resourc

Propylene glycol neurotoxicity due to sodium citrate therapy in an infant with renal tubular acidosis.

Sodium citrate in its liquid formulation is commonly used as therapy for renal tubular acidosis in pediatric patients. Convenient dosing and administration is important to ensure long-term medication adherence and normal growth in the chronic forms of this condition. Liquid sodium citrate formulations contain propylene glycol, a commonly used excipient, which can be toxic at high doses. Propylene glycol toxicity due to medication excipients has been reported in the literature, including many cases secondary to sustained exposure to intravenous anti-epileptics, however toxicity associated with

Sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, zinc, citrate and chloride content of human prostatic and seminal fluid.

The ionic composition of human prostatic fluid varied greatly between individuals, reflecting the secretory activity of the gland and the presence or absence of prostatic inflammatory disease. In normal prostatic fluid the major anion was citrate, while chloride concentrations were lower. Their counterions were mainly sodium and potassium, together with calcium, magnesium and zinc. Prostatic secretions from men with prostatitis comprised mainly sodium and chloride. The electrolytes were closely correlated to each other (except for sodium, which was essentially invariant at about 145 nm). The m

Correcting hyponatremia by fluid sodium modulation in continuous renal replacement therapy with regional citrate anticoagulation.

A 40-year-old man presented with severe hyponatremia with a serum sodium of 102 mmol/L and concomitant acute kidney injury complicated by severe acidosis. He was started on continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) with regional citrate anticoagulation. We present the equations and strategy used to calculate and adjust the sodium concentration of the dialysate and replacement fluids to increase serum sodium levels by ≤8 mmol/L/day. The equations were based on fundamental chemistry principles and applicable to common CRRT solutions with 140 mmol/L of sodium. This simple strategy for CRRT flui

Effect of sodium citrate and magnesium sulphate anticoagulation on platelet parameters measured on the Alinity hq analyzer.

INTRODUCTION: EDTA-dependent pseudothrombocytopenia (PTP) may cause spuriously low platelet counts and can be prevented by using alternative anticoagulants, such as sodium citrate (citrate) and magnesium sulphate (MgSO4). However, these anticoagulants may affect platelet parameters depending on the analytical platform. Their effect on platelet measurements using the Abbott Alinity hq hematology analyzer has not previously been evaluated. METHODS: Blood samples from 40 outpatients without known PTP were collected in K2-EDTA, citrate, and MgSO4 tubes. Platelet count, mean platelet volume, and r
