Pulmonic Valve Endocarditis and Septic Pulmonary Embolism Caused by Staphylococcus haemolyticus: A Case Study.

BACKGROUND We present a rare case of pulmonic valve endocarditis complicated by septic pulmonary embolism and pulmonary edema due to Staphylococcus haemolyticus in a patient without risk factors such as indwelling catheters, implanted devices, or intravenous drug use. Pulmonic valve endocarditis is itself a rare entity, comprising less than 2% of all cases of infective endocarditis; a mere 70 reports of isolated pulmonic valve infective endocarditis are reflected in the literature between 1979 and 2013. Diagnosis requires blood cultures and echocardiography, with intravenous antibiotics the me

Molecular basis and evolutionary cost of a novel macrolides/lincosamides resistance phenotype in Staphylococcus haemolyticus.

This study identified a novel phenotype of macrolides/lincosamides resistance in Staphylococcus haemolyticus which improved a better guidance for clinical treatment. It also clarified the mechanistic basis for this form of antibiotic resistance that supplemented the drug resistance mechanism of Staphylococcus. In addition, this study elaborated on a possibility that continuous expression of some resistance genes was shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria themselves, which turned out to be the fitness cost in the absence of antibiotic pressure.

Prevalence and Molecular Determinants of Antimicrobial Resistance in Clinical Isolates of Staphylococcus haemolyticus from India.

Aims: Although Staphylococcus haemolyticus is considered as a part of normal skin flora, infections associated with them are increasing. Irrespective of the low virulence profile it poses a severe threat to patients with indwelling devices due to its multidrug-resistant nature. The aim of this study was to determine antibiotic resistance patterns and to detect the genes responsible in clinical isolates of S. haemolyticus. Results: All the 356 S. haemolyticus isolates were susceptible to glycopeptides. 91.3% were resistant to cefoxitin, 85.4% to erythromycin, 57.3% to co-trimoxazole, 52.8% to c

A Rare Paronychia with Superinfection with Prevotella bivia and Staphylococcus haemolyticus: The Importance of Early Microbiological Diagnosis.

Prevotella bivia is an anaerobic, gram-negative bacillus which naturally thrives in the human vagina, and is usually related to vaginal tract infections. However, this microorganism can also cause infections in other body locations. Infections with Prevotella bivia are frequently severe due to the risk of osteomyelitis and the lack of good protocols for adequate therapeutic management. Staphylococcus haemolyticus infection is one of the most frequent etiological factors of nosocomial infections, which hasthe ability to acquire multiple resistance against antimicrobial agents. We report a rare

Immune evasion by Staphylococcus haemolyticus: Attenuated NET-associated responses and resistance to NET-mediated killing.

Neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) contribute to innate immune defense by trapping and exposing microorganisms to DNA-associated antimicrobial proteins. However, some pathogens can tolerate NET-associated antimicrobial activity and persist within the host. Staphylococcus haemolyticus is an emerging multidrug-resistant coagulase-negative staphylococcal pathogen associated with healthcare-related infections, but its interaction with neutrophil-mediated defenses remains poorly understood. This study investigated whether a multidrug-resistant clinical S. haemolyticus isolate modulates neutrophi

Multidrug-resistant CC3 Staphylococcus haemolyticus with increased vancomycin MIC among neonates in a Brazilian NICU.

Staphylococcus haemolyticus has emerged as a cause of outbreaks in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs), particularly involving clonal complex (CC) 3 lineages. We investigated the prevalence and microbiological characteristics of S. haemolyticus colonizing neonates in a Brazilian NICU over two periods, spanning the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Nasal swabs were collected weekly between August 2019-March 2020 and between November 2020-April 2021. Isolates were identified by MALDI-TOF-MS and characterized by antimicrobial susceptibility testing, vancomycin minimum inhibitory concentration (MI

Nosocomial meningitis caused by Staphylococcus haemolyticus in a child with neutropenia in the absence of intracranial devices: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Coagulase-negative staphylococci can cause hospital-acquired infections, especially in immunocompromised hosts. Bacterial meningitis is a potentially fatal infection of the central nervous system, causing high mortality and morbidity. In general, the causative agents of meningitis, coagulase-negative staphylococci, are associated with direct implantation of a foreign body and the presence of a cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) shunt. Here, we describe a case of nosocomial meningitis caused by Staphylococcus haemolyticus in a child with neutropenia who had no intracranial foreign devices.

Whole genome sequence analysis of multi-drug resistant and biofilm-forming Staphylococcus haemolyticus isolated from bovine milk.

BACKGROUND: Milk is an excellent growth medium for microorganisms due to its nutritive composition. Microorganisms have been implicated in bovine mastitis (BM) in dairy cows as well as causing infections in animals and humans. Despite extensive endeavours to manage BM, this condition continues to persist as the most prevalent and economically burdensome problem affecting dairy cattle on a global scale. Non-aureus staphylococci (NAS) species such as Staphylococcus haemolyticus, S. epidermidis, and S. xylosus are currently the predominant microbiological agents identified as the main cause of su
