Prevalence of Depression, Anxiety and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) After Acute Myocardial Infarction: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Background: Mental illnesses following an acute myocardial infarction (AMI) are a growing concern, as they are associated with worse outcomes for AMI patients. Our understanding of the prevalence of mental illnesses after an AMI is incomplete, as most studies investigate depression while overlooking other conditions like anxiety and PTSD. Existing studies often rely on patient-reported questionnaires for mental illness diagnoses, a method that can be subjective. To address this, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to determine the prevalence and risk factors of depression, anxie

Broken Heartstrings-Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and Psychological Burden after Acute Mitral Regurgitation Due to Chordae Tendineae Rupture.

Chordae tendineae rupture (CTR) is a potentially life-threatening cardiac event often resulting in Acute mitral regurgitation (AMR). We assessed Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, and anxiety symptoms in n=21 CTR patients with AMR (age 82.3 ± 4.2 years; 66.7% men) and compared them to n=23 CTR patients with Chronic mitral regurgitation (CMR) and n=35 Myocardial infraction (MI) patients. Regression analyses revealed that PTSD scores were significantly higher in CTR patients with AMR than in CTR patients with CMR or MI patients. CTR patients with CMR had the lowest levels of PTSD

Lower vascular conductance responses to handgrip exercise are improved following acute antioxidant supplementation in young individuals with post-traumatic stress disorder.

Young individuals with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) display peripheral vascular and autonomic nervous system dysfunction, two factors potentially stemming from a redox imbalance. It is currently unclear if these aforementioned factors, observed at rest, alter peripheral haemodynamic responses to exercise in this population. This study examined haemodynamic responses to handgrip exercise in young individuals with PTSD following acute antioxidant (AO) supplementation. Thirteen young individuals with PTSD (age 23 ± 3 years), and 13 age- and sex-matched controls (CTRL) participated in the

Stellate Ganglion Block for Post-acute Sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 Infection With Coexisting Post-traumatic Stress Disorder, Anxiety, and Chronic Pain: A Case Report.

Post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection (PASC), commonly referred to as long COVID, is characterized by persistent symptoms, including fatigue, cognitive dysfunction, pain, and neuropsychiatric complaints, that can impair daily functioning. Proposed mechanisms are heterogeneous and may include autonomic dysregulation in a subset of patients. Stellate ganglion block (SGB) is a cervical sympathetic block used to treat symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, and, more recently, PASC. A 58-year-old man with a history of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, generalized

Post-traumatic stress disorder symptoms following exposure to acute psychological trauma in children aged 8-16 years in South Africa: protocol for the Sinethemba longitudinal study.

INTRODUCTION: Children exposed to trauma are vulnerable to developing post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other adverse mental health outcomes. In low-and middle-income countries (LMICs), children are at increased risk of exposure to severe trauma and co-occurring adversities. However, relative to high-income countries, there is limited evidence of the factors that predict good versus poor psychological recovery following trauma exposure in LMIC children, and the role of caregiver support in these high-adversity communities. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: We will conduct a longitudinal, observat

Effect of oxytocin nasal spray pretreatment on postoperative acute stress disorder in patients with accidental traumatic fracture: a single-centre prospective randomised controlled clinical trial study protocol.

INTRODUCTION: Patients undergoing surgical procedures are often prone to developing acute stress disorder (ASD) postoperatively. Presently, oxytocin nasal spray has shown significant potential in the treatment of stress-related neuropsychiatric diseases. However, there are few reports on the use of oxytocin nasal spray in postoperative ASD, a condition that can potentially develop into a high-risk factor for post-traumatic stress disorder. This study aims to investigate the effect of pretreatment with oxytocin nasal spray on postoperative ASD in patients with accidental trauma and fracture to
