Hybrid Sequential Meniscal Suture Technique.

Meniscal preservation is a priority in the treatment of knee injuries because of the fundamental role of the meniscus in load absorption, joint stability, and chondral protection. Several repair techniques have been described, including inside-out, outside-in, and all-inside approaches. More recently, continuous suturing techniques have emerged as a promising alternative, allowing multiple fixation points with shorter operative time and reduced costs. We describe a hybrid continuous meniscal repair technique that combines initial all-inside fixation with additional outside-in sutures using the

A Novel Suturing Technique for Choroidal Avulsion.

Ocular trauma has been one of the leading causes of visual impairment, and choroidal avulsion is especially devastating. Surgical treatment of choroidal avulsion is challenging, and very few surgical techniques have been reported. We experienced two cases of globe rupture with 360-degree avulsion of the choroid-ciliary body from the peripheral section. After vitrectomy for a globe rupture, the choroid gradually slid down to the posterior pole over time and vision deteriorated even though the retina was attached. We treated the choroidal avulsion using two surgical methods: a mattress suturing

Continuous Meniscal Suture Technique of the Knee.

The menisci are fibroelastic structures interposed between the articular surfaces of the femur and tibia. They absorb impact and transmit load. Meniscal injury may compromise function and cause rapid joint degeneration, leading to the development of secondary osteoarthritis. Surgical treatment of meniscal injury is usually performed by arthroscopy, and meniscectomy or meniscal suture may be associated with such treatment. Meniscal suture should be considered when the injury compromises the proper functioning of the meniscus to recover its anatomy and function. Different meniscal suture techniq

Deep suturing technique for penetrating keratoplasty.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the effect of a new suturing technique on postkeratoplasty visual rehabilitation time and refractive error. METHODS: Penetrating keratoplasty was performed on 17 eyes with keratoconus using a modified suturing technique. A donor button 8.0 mm in diameter was sutured into a 7.75-mm recipient bed with both deep and superficial sutures. The deep sutures consisted of either a single 16-bite 10-0 nylon running suture (n = 7) or eight interrupted 10-0 nylon cross-stitches (n = 10). These sutures were passed into the mid-stroma of the donor cornea and exited through the donor en

Arthroscopic Bankart procedure by suture technique: indications, technique, and results.

The arthroscopic Bankart procedure by suture technique was performed in 31 patients (1984-1987). In 22 of the cases, the minimum follow-up was 2 years. Fourteen patients had sustained a primary traumatic complete dislocation resulting in unidirectional instability, and eight patients experienced recurrent subluxation. Clinical examination demonstrated positive labrum pathology in all cases, which was proven in five patients by contrast computed tomography scan. None of the 22 patients experienced intraoperative complications or infection. A slight loss of abduction was found in two patients, a

A standardized technique for safe pancreaticojejunostomy: Pair-Watch suturing technique.

AIM: To prevent pancreatic leakage after pancreaticojejunostomy, we designed a new standardized technique that we term the "Pair-Watch suturing technique". METHODS: Before anastomosis, we imagine the faces of a pair of watches on the jejunal hole and pancreatic duct. The first stitch was put between 9 o'clock of the pancreatic side and 3 o'clock of the jejunal side, and a total of 7 stitches were put on the posterior wall, followed by the 5 stitches on the anterior wall. Using this technique, twelve stitches can be sutured on the first layer anastomosis regardless of the caliber of the pancre

Transscleral suture fixation of posterior chamber intraocular lenses through the ciliary sulcus: endoscopic comparison of different suture techniques.

Two technical difficulties exist in transscleral suture fixation of posterior chamber intraocular lenses (PCL) in the ciliary sulcus: first, exact needle penetration of the sulcus and second, exact positioning of the PCL haptics in the sulcus. We used, for the first time, intraocular endoscopy to visualize the site of needle penetration and the final location of the haptics in patients. It turned out that with our previously described standard techniques, precision was far less than anticipated. Thus, new technical ways had to be sought to improve the precision of positioning. Biomechanical comparison of vertical suture techniques for repairing radial meniscus tear.

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to (1) develop suture techniques in repairing radial meniscal tear; (2) to compare the biomechanical properties of the proposed repair techniques with the conventional double horizontal technique. METHODS: Thirty-six fresh-frozen porcine medial menisci were randomly assigned into four groups and a complete tear was made at the midline of each meniscus. The menisci were subsequently repaired using four different repair techniques: double vertical (DV), double vertical cross (DVX), hybrid composing one vertical and one horizontal stitch, and conventional doubl

Four novel suture-sealing techniques to repair varying size paravalvular leaks.

BACKGROUND: Paravalvular leak (PVL) is a well-known complication of aortic valve replacement. Currently, there is no consensus on optimal intraoperative management of patients with mild-to-moderate or moderate PVL. TECHNIQUE: In this paper we present four novel surgical techniques, each combining suturing with sealing technique, to repair aortic PVLs, nullifying the need to replace the prosthesis. CONCLUSION: These techniques will offer cardiac surgeons new alternatives to the repair techniques currently used.

Aortic annuloplasty: Subcommissural, intra-annular suture techniques, external and internal rings.

Aortic valve repair and valve-preserving root replacement have evolved into increasingly practiced procedures. With increasing experience, the need for an annuloplasty has become more evident, at least for pathologies that involve annular dilatation. To understand the effect of an aortic annuloplasty, it is necessary to know the details of aortic valve and root anatomy. Geometrically, the functional annulus is best defined as the virtual basal ring, ie, plane of the cusp nadirs. The sinotubular diameter also influences the aortic valve form, at least in tricuspid valves. Different annuloplasty

Left atrial appendage elimination techniques: stapled excision versus internal suture obliteration.

BACKGROUND: This study was conducted to compare the efficacy and safety of left atrium appendage (LAA) elimination using stapled excision with those using internal suture obliteration. METHODS: In all, 158 patients with atrial fibrillation who underwent surgical elimination of the LAA during cardiac surgery and later underwent postoperative computed tomography (CT) were enrolled. Of these, 102 patients underwent stapled excision (SE group), and 56 underwent internal suture obliteration (IO group). The efficacy endpoint was LAA excision failure, including a remnant LAA (>1 cm) or communication

Early active mobilization after tendon transfers using mesh reinforced suture techniques.

23 tendon transfers in the hand and forearm were performed using a polyester mesh sleeve to reinforce conventional suture techniques. All transfers were mobilized with active flexion and extension within 3 days of operation. Excluding one rupture (due to extreme unintentional loading) and depending on the type of transfer used, a mean of between 69% and 78% of the final active range of motion was obtained 1 month post-operatively. With the exception of transfers for wrist extension, the mean final active range of motion amounted to between 91% and 100% of the available passive range of motion
