This study investigates the potential of few natural fibres such as Tamarind, Coir, and Mesta as sustainable alternatives to synthetic fibres. X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), and dielectric analysis were employed to evaluate their elasto-mechanical and dielectric properties. Rietveld refinement provided detailed insights into the crystal structures, revealing distinct polysaccharide, lignin, cellulose, and lignocellulosic components in Tamarind, Coir, and Mesta fibres. Crystallite sizes were determined using the Scherrer equati

A survey was carried out in Kaduna State of Nigeria to establish the indigenous knowledge system for treating trypanosomiasis in domestic animals. Questionnaire and interviews were, respectively, administered to, or conducted with about 200 livestock farmers and traders spread around the state. Data obtained revealed the use of several plants either alone or in combination, for the treatment and management of trypasonomiasis. The most common plants encountered were Adansonia digitata, Terminalia avicennoides, Khaya senegalensis, Cissus populnea, Tamarindus indica, Lawsonia inermis, Boswellia d

Silver carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix) often suffers from low consumer acceptance due to fishy odor and poor muscle quality. To address these issues, tamarind aqueous extract (TAE) was applied as a natural immersion treatment to improve odor and muscle quality in silver carp. Results show that TAE significantly reduced key fishy odor compounds, including hexanal, nonanal, and 1-octen-3-ol. Neochlorogenic acid was identified as the predominant phenolic component, accounting for 16.21% of TAE, and was found to form stable hydrogen-bonding and hydrophobic interactions with volatile odorants. The cultivation and trade of underutilized fruits are gaining prominence worldwide, largely on account of their capacity to contribute to a nutritious diet. Manila tamarind [Pithecellobium dulce (Roxb.) Benth] is a fast-growing, nitrogen-fixing tree, with a fairly high tolerance to abiotic stresses. Despite significant potential in terms of food, fodder, timber, and medicine, it has largely remained an orphan crop. There is a dearth of systematic research on the exploration, conservation, and genetic improvement of Manila tamarind. Our study aimed to assess the genetic variability for commerci

Ninety crude extracts, including dichloromethane, methanol and aqueous extracts from 30 medicinal plants used in the Yemeni ethnomedicine to treat common infections, were screened in vitro for antimicrobial activities against three Gram-positive bacteria and two Gram-negative bacteria, Candida maltosa and five opportunistic human fungal pathogens (two yeasts, three hyphomycetes). Most of the plants showed antibacterial activities. Extracts from Tamarindus indica flowers and Ficus vasta fruits have been the most active. Of the 30 plants tested, 13 showed antifungal activity (40%) against one or

In this study, we developed tamarind gum (TG) and rice bran oil (RBO)-based emulgels. The control formulation (TR0), did not contain RBO. The emulgels were named as TR1, TR2, TR3, and TR4, which contained 5% (w/w), 10% (w/w), 15% (w/w), and 20% (w/w/) of RBO, respectively. The microscopic studies showed that the emulgels were biphasic in nature. FTIR spectroscopy revealed the reduction in the hydrogen bonding with an increase in the RBO content. Impedance profiles suggested that the resistive component of the emulgels was increased as the RBO content was increased. The thermal analysis suggest

Modern sun-protection products reduce the risk for erythema and DNA damage, but even those products with a very high sun protection factor (SPF) and full-spectrum UVB and UVA protection may not prevent UV radiation (UVR)-induced immunomodulation. Formulating sunscreens with a high SPF, as well as a high immune protection factor, is necessary for preventing skin cancer and maintaining effective immune responses to infectious disease after sun exposure. Supplementing current sun-protection products with immunoprotective compounds may help fill the gap between erythema protection and immunoprotec

Tamarind seed polysaccharide (TSP) can form gels through interaction with tea polyphenols, with polyphenol concentration serving as a key determinant of the resulting gel properties. This study systematically investigated the effects of (-)-epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) concentration on the phase transition and gel properties of TSP. The macroscopic properties and microstructural evolution were characterized using rheology, diffusing wave spectroscopy (DWS), and cryo-scanning electron microscopy (cryo-SEM). Results showed that TSP (1.0% w/v) exhibited sol, sol-gel transition, gel, gel-prec

Tamarindus indica L., the sole species in the genus Tamarind, which is a member of the subfamily Caesalpiniaceae in the family Leguminosae (Fabaceae), is extensively dispersed in many tropical and subtropical regions. This plant's Arabic name, Tamr Al-Hindi, is the basis for its English name, Tamarind. In traditional medicine, this genus has played a major role since the time of the ancient Egyptians. Folkloric medicine has traditionally used Tamarind to treat a variety of conditions, including diabetes mellitus, fever, malaria, ulcers, diarrhoea, dysentery and wounds. The primary bioactive co

A great number of fungal infections are related to biofilm formation on inert or biological surfaces, which are recalcitrant to most treatments and cause human mortality. Cryptococcus laurentii has been diagnosed as the aetiological pathogen able to cause human infections mainly in immunosuppressed patients and the spectrum of clinical manifestations ranges from skin lesions to fungaemia. The effect of temperature, pH and surface preconditioning on C. laurentii biofilm formation was determined by 2, 3-bis (2-methoxy-4-nitro-5-sulfophenyl)-5-[(phenylamino) carbonyl]-2H-tetrazolium hydroxide (XT

Ultrasonography-based diagnosis is increasingly used owing to its reliability. However, the conventional ultrasound gel has limitations of patient discomfort and cost. This study evaluated the clinical utility of a newly developed gel pad for ultrasound diagnosis composed of tamarind seed gum (0.1–5.0 wt%), polyhydric alcohol (25.0–70.0 wt%), and water (30.0–70.0 wt%). Ultrasound imaging was performed in four healthy volunteers using our new solid gel and the conventional liquid gel. Linear, convex, and sector probes were used for imaging of the common carotid artery and thyroid gland, liver,

PURPOSE: With increased life expectancy, disorders in lifestyle and other clinical conditions, and the changes in the connective tissues such as in bone, impose diverse biomedical problems. Cells belong to osteogenic lineages are extremely specific for their surface requirements. Therefore, suitable surfaces are the critical bottle neck for successful bone tissue engineering. This study involves assessment of polysaccharide-based hydrogel which effectively allows growth, differentiation and mineralisation of osteogenic cells even in the absence of osteogenic inducing factors.

One of the disadvantages of traditional ophthalmic formulations is their short residence time in the eye. An in situ gel is recommended as a remedy, as it can be converted into a gel upon contact with the eye and adhere for an extended period. Tamarind seed polysaccharide (TSP) is non thermo-sensitive and possesses the necessary properties to be used as a vehicle for administering medication to the eye. However, the administration of medication into the eyes through TSP based in situ gel has not yet been studied. N-isopropyl acrylamide was grafted onto TSP to make it temperature sensitive. The

In the process of creating eco-friendly environment and conserving fossil fuels for the future generations, biodiesel has been chosen as a good substitute for diesel. It is a proven fact that biodiesel operated diesel engine can deliver comparable results with diesel. The present work focuses on TSME20 (tamarind seed methyl ester 20% + diesel 80%) as a renewable fuel, and its performance and emission results are analyzed at different exhaust gas recirculation rates and various injection pressures. The process is done in two stages. Firstly, experiments are conducted on TSME20 operated diesel e
