The way to healthy telework: Sleep and sleep rhythm changes as the key factors for maintaining mental health and work productivity.

The COVID-19 pandemic and recent advancements in technology have significantly altered workstyles, notably increasing the prevalence of telework. However, it is unclear how telework affects workers' sleep, sleep-wake rhythm, and occupational health outcomes. This longitudinal study aimed to determine the effects of telework and its environment on sleep and circadian rhythms, as well as their impact on psychosomatic stress reactions and presenteeism. This is a multi-workplace cohort study involving 23 companies. Among a total of 6855 full-time workers, 3123 who had not teleworked in 2019 (befor

Female teleworkers with pain have the highest presenteeism, where its primary contributing variable was not those of musculoskeletal disability.

Presenteeism, among desk workers with pain can be affected by musculoskeletal disabilities (MSDs), working styles, and gender. In this study, teleworkers were defined as those who teleworked >70% of the time at home, while others were defined as non-full teleworkers. This study aimed to (1) compare the magnitude of presenteeism among four groups: male and female teleworkers with pain and male and female non-full teleworkers with pain, and (2) create a regression model of presenteeism with 66 independent biopsychosocial variables for each group. Data were collected through an anonymous online s

Relationship between Telework Experience and Presenteeism during COVID-19 Pandemic, United States, March-November 2020.

Persons with COVID-19-like illnesses are advised to stay home to reduce the spread of SARS-CoV-2. We assessed relationships between telework experience and COVID-19 illness with work attendance when ill. Adults experiencing fever, cough, or loss of taste or smell who sought healthcare or COVID-19 testing in the United States during March-November 2020 were enrolled. Adults with telework experience before illness were more likely to work at all (onsite or remotely) during illness (87.8%) than those with no telework experience (49.9%) (adjusted odds ratio 5.48, 95% CI 3.40-8.83). COVID-19 case-p

Beyond Work: The Role of "Family-Friendly" Practices in the Subjective Well-Being of Teleworkers and On-Site Workers in the COVID-19 Pandemic.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, telework emerged as a pivotal strategy to mitigate the spread of the virus. However, telework's feasibility was contingent on job roles. This gave rise to two distinct groups: teleworkers and on-site workers. However, the impacts of social support and well-being extended to both groups. This study investigated the link between organisational and supervisory family support and subjective well-being, examining work engagement as a mediator. Conducted in Portugal, this cross-sectional study surveyed 515 individuals via web-based questionnaires. Data were analysed usi

Can working at home be a hazard? Ergonomic factors associated with musculoskeletal disorders among teleworkers during the COVID-19 pandemic: a scoping review.

Objectives. The improvised and massive adoption of remote work in the context of COVID-19 has forced us to adapt homes as workspaces, which could promote development of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). This review explores the evidence for ergonomic factors associated with MSDs in teleworkers. Methods. A literature search was conducted in MEDLINE, Embase, Scopus, SciELO and EBSCO. We included observational studies published between March 2020 and October 2021 that included teleworking personnel due to the restrictions of the pandemic. Results. A total of 212 studies were identified, 14 were c

Telework and Face-to-Face Work during COVID-19 Confinement: The Predictive Factors of Work-Related Stress from a Holistic Point of View.

This article explores the socio-labor conditions in which people worked during confinement, analyzing the predictors of work-related stress, according to work modality (face-to-face or teleworking), from a holistic and quantitative (n = 328) point of view. To identify predictors of stress, correlational analyses and multiple hierarchical regressions were conducted with individual, organizational, and societal variables. Furthermore, to analyze the possible modulating role of gender, caregiving, and the level of responsibility in organizations in the relationship between predictor variables and

Design and preliminary psychometric validation of an ergonomics-oriented questionnaire applied to mexican teleworkers in working from home conditions using exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses.

This paper develops and psychometrically validates a four-factor WFH ergonomics questionnaire and examines its factorial validity and reliability in Mexican teleworkers. WFH studies have gained global attention, yet research linking WFH environments to musculoskeletal discomfort remains limited in Mexico. To address this gap, the questionnaire was developed through comprehensive literature review and digitally distributed to N=202 Mexican teleworkers in the manufacturing sector. The questionnaire was preliminary validated through EFA & CFA analyses using factor loadings for item selection and

Are you in the zone when working from home? How remote workers' daily flow experiences promote daily functioning and well-being through reduced work-home interruption behaviors.

The surge in telework after the COVID-19 pandemic has raised debates between employers and employees about how teleworkers can balance flexibility and productivity while working remotely. Our study examines how flow experiences as a volatile personal resource can facilitate teleworkers' functioning and well-being at work and at home through effortless self-regulation. Drawing on the work-home resources model, we argue that daily flow experiences promote teleworkers' work domain functioning (e.g., work engagement and need for recovery) and home domain well-being (e.g., subjective vitality and r

Telework Before Illness Onset Among Symptomatic Adults Aged ≥18 Years With and Without COVID-19 in 11 Outpatient Health Care Facilities - United States, July 2020.

Since March 2020, large-scale efforts to reduce transmission of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), have continued. Mitigation measures to reduce workplace exposures have included work site policies to support flexible work site options, including telework, whereby employees work remotely without commuting to a central place of work.* Opportunities to telework have varied across industries among U.S. jobs where telework options are feasible (1). However, little is known about the impact of telework on risk for SARS-CoV-2 infection. A case-control investigatio

The distributional impact of recessions: The global financial crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic recession.

Using U.S. Current Population Survey data, this paper compares the distributional impacts of the COVID-19 Pandemic Crisis and those of Global Financial Crisis in terms of (i) worker characteristics, (ii) job characteristics-"social" (where individuals interact to consume goods), "teleworkable" (where individuals have the option of working at home), and "essential" jobs (which were not subject to government mandated shutdowns during the recent recession), and (iii) wage distributions. We find that young and less educated workers have always been affected more in recessions, while women and Hisp

A Moderated Mediation Analysis of New Work-Related Stressors, Psychological Distress, and Absenteeism in Health Care During a Pandemic: Is Recognition the Cure for Preventing Falling in Battle?

OBJECTIVES: We aimed to evaluate the effects of new work-related stressors on psychological distress and absenteeism and the role of recognition in these relationships. METHODS: Moderated path analyses were carried out on a sample of 1128 health care workers. RESULTS: Increased workload related to COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) ( β = 1.511, P ≤ 0.01) and fear of COVID-19 ( β = 0.844, P ≤ 0.01) were directly associated with a higher level of psychological distress and indirectly ( β = 2.306, P ≤ 0.01; and β = 1.289, P ≤ 0.05, respectively) associated with a higher level of absenteeism. Submandibular Gland Excision with Facial Artery Preservation: The Argument for Changing the Established Norms.

OBJECTIVES: This study investigated how occupational well-being evolved across different phases, before and during the COVID-19 outbreak in the Finnish population. Whereas studies have suggested that certain demographic groups (eg, young, female) are more at risk during COVID-19, less is known whether the effects of such demographic factors may vary (i) across different phases of the unfolding viral outbreak and (ii) on different dimensions of occupational well-being. As they are predictors of changes in burnout, job boredom, and work engagement, we examined age, gender, education, living alon
