Hallux varus is a deformity, either congenital or acquired, of the first metatarsophalangeal joint. It presents as a medical deviation of the hallux in relation to the longitudinal axis of the first metatarsal shaft. The authors discuss the case history of a patient and the surgical technique--a split width tenodesis--which they used to correct the deformity.

Arthroscopy : the journal of arthroscopic & related surgery : official publication of the Arthroscopy Association of North America and the International Arthroscopy Association2019eng
There is now a strong consensus that the best surgical treatment of a SLAP lesion is often something different from a primary direct repair, especially in older patients in whom postoperative stiffness and persistent pain have led most of us to perform a biceps tenodesis instead. However, treatment of younger patients and especially the overhead athlete group is more problematic and thus controversial. This study demonstrates that biceps tenodesis in these patients can be more successful and have a higher return to sport than SLAP repair alone. There may also be a role for biceps tenodesis AND

PURPOSE OF THE STUDY Distal radioulnar joint (DRUJ) instability often develops after distal forearm fracture or severe dislocation of the wrist with damage to its stabilising structures. The instability is usually diagnosed as a chronic condition and only rarely at the time of injury. When the stabilising structures are not treated adequately soon after injury, instability develops and is accompanied with pain, restricted range of motion and reduced grip strength. This study presents the option of chronic instability treatment by tenodesis with use of the palmaris longus tendon. Its aim is to

Calcaneus deformity in patients with neurologic disorders leads to gait disturbances, a high incidence of osteomyelitis, cellulitis, and skin breakdown, and a major problem in the fitting of shoes of orthoses. Correction of this deformity remains a difficult challenge for the orthopedic surgeon. Twelve tenodeses of the tendo Achillis to the fibula or tibia were performed in eight patients with myelodysplasia in an attempt to control calcaneus deformity. The average age of the patients at the time of surgery was 7.4 years (range, 3.1-13.5 years) with an average follow-up period of 6.3 years (ra

Rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament constitutes a major disability in young athletes and those patients with persistent disabling instability who have failed to respond to conservative treatment. A new method of reconstruction by means of semitendinsous tenodesis was used in five patients with satisfactory end results after an average follow-up of 21.4 months. Limited clinical experience indicates that with this method less anteroposterior instability persists than with other methods.

BACKGROUND: The long head of the biceps tendon (LHBT) has long been considered an intra-articular pain generator in the shoulder. While nonoperative treatment modalities can be acceptable for less severe presentations of LHBT pathology, surgical treatment options such as tenotomy and tenodesis remain controversial for recalcitrant cases. Open subpectoral biceps tenodesis allows for removal of all pathologic tissue from the bicipital groove, and all-suture anchor fixation utilizes a small caliber unicortical drill hole, which can potentially reduce the risk of a stress riser and iatrogenic frac

BACKGROUND: Subpectoral biceps tenodesis can be performed with cortical fixation using different repair techniques. The goal of this technique is to obtain a strong and stable reduction of biceps tendon in an anatomic position.
PURPOSE/HYPOTHESIS: The purpose of this study was to compare (1) displacement during cyclic loading, (2) ultimate load, (3) construct stiffness, and (4) failure mode of the biceps tenodesis fixation methods using onlay techniques with an all-suture anchor versus an intramedullary unicortical button. It was hypothesized that fixation with all-suture anchors using a Krac

A technique for lateral extra-articular tenodesis using proximal staple fixation is described as an adjunct to anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. Lateral extra-articular tenodesis has been used in an effort to decrease failure rates in ACL-deficient patients with ligamentous laxity, prior failed ACL surgery, or grade 3 pivot-shift findings. Numerous surgeons have described combining ACL reconstruction with extra-articular surgery. The approach described in this article is easy and cost-effective. Moreover, because this technique uses a staple instead of a SwiveLock (Arthrex, Napl

Background: One of the methods of stabilizing the stump of the ulna following resection of the distal ulna is tenodesis of the extensor carpi ulnaris (ECU). Some studies have recommended stabilization, whereas others have not found it useful. Most of these studies have a mix of different pathologies and often do not have a control group. The aim of this study is to compare the outcomes of ECU tenodesis versus no tenodesis after resection of the distal ulna in patients with grade III giant cell tumor (GCT) of the distal ulna. Methods: The retrospective study included 10 patients with Campanacci

PURPOSE: To compare the likelihood of spiral fracture of the humerus using torsional load to failure after intraosseous biceps tenodesis at the position of the arthroscopic suprapectoral tenodesis versus the subpectoral meta-diaphyseal location.
METHODS: Eight matched pairs of humeri were dissected. Unicortical tenodesis holes were drilled, either at the bottom of the bicipital groove (group 1) or just below the pectoralis major tendon insertion (subpectoral) in the humeral diaphysis (group 2). Tenodesis was performed in a 7-mm bone tunnel, with suture fixation distal to this site using 2 sep

Optimal intraprosthetic tension is critical for function and longevity of dual‑mobility thumb carpometacarpal (CMC1) arthroplasty. The objective of this work is to describe and formalize the use of the tenodesis effect as a reliable, reproducible intraoperative test to optimize tensioning of dual‑mobility CMC1 prostheses and reduce complications related to over tensioning. The tenodesis‑based assessment performed after trial implantation is detailed: with the prosthesis in place, passive wrist flexion/extension is used to observe thumb interphalangeal (IP) joint movement. Excessive resistance

BACKGROUND: In young patients, anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction often results in graft failure. This may be due, in part, to concomitant injury to anterolateral complex (ALC) of the knee leading to rotatory laxity. The modified Lemaire lateral extra-articular tenodesis (LET) technique is intended to address the anterolateral rotatory instability due to injury to the ALC and to protect the ACL graft and meniscus.
INDICATIONS: The International Anterolateral Complex Consensus Group Meeting identified 4 appropriate indications for the modified Lemaire LET procedure: revision ACL,

Biceps tendinopathy and superior labrum anterior posterior lesions are a common source of shoulder pain and disability and can be effectively treated with biceps tenodesis. There are a variety of open and arthroscopic tenodesis techniques, but no one technique has demonstrated superiority. Arthroscopic techniques often disregard the extra-articular portions of the biceps tendon as a potential source of pain. Open techniques address this concern; however, they can be associated with wound complications, increased blood loss, nerve injury, and disruptions to surgical workflow. Here, we describe

BACKGROUND: Biceps tenotomy and tenodesis are surgical treatments for pathology of the proximal tendon of the long head of the biceps. There is debate over which procedure provides better patient outcomes.
PURPOSE: Compare patient-reported outcomes and satisfaction between biceps tenotomy and tenodesis.
METHODS: This retrospective cohort study including all patients undergoing arthroscopic biceps tenodesis or tenotomy as part of more extensive shoulder surgery with a single surgeon. Concomitant procedures included rotator cuff repair, subacromial decompression, acromioclavicular joint resect

Several arthroscopic biceps tenodesis techniques have been described for surgical management of tendonitis and/or partial thickness tears of the long head of the biceps brachii tendon resulting in recalcitrant anterior shoulder pain. This chapter describes an arthroscopic tenodesis using percutaneous intra-articular transtendon technique with suture anchor fixation. The percutaneous technique allows excellent access to the biceps tendon, and the addition of a suture anchor provides superior fixation to isolated soft tissue fixation.

First metatarsophalangeal instability is an uncommon condition. It is resulted from disruption of the capsular-ligamentous complex, e.g. after dislocation of the hallux metatarsophalangeal joint or after turf-toe injury. The patient will experience pain with push-off and hallux rigidus type of symptoms. We present a technique to stabilize the first metatarsophalangeal joint by anchoring the plantar plate to the extensor hallucis longus tendon.

Background: Lateral extra-articular tenodesis (LET) is a surgical procedure that is additionally implemented in concurrent anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR). Although numerous articles have addressed the use of LET in conjunction with ACLR, few definitive contraindications were identified. Given the scarcity of literature evaluating contraindications for LET modality, this study aimed to systematically review the reported contraindications of this procedure in the context of concurrent ACLR. Methods: The searched key terms: (extra-articular OR extraarticular) AND (tenodesis OR p
