Erosive tooth wear - a review on global prevalence and on its prevalence in risk groups.

Erosion is a common phenomenon in the general population of developed countries. However, due to variations in indices, sample sizes and general study designs, it is difficult to compare the various studies and to estimate actual global prevalence. Therefore, the aim of this present paper is to give a narrative overview on the data available on the global prevalence of erosion. Information on prevalence is not available from each country; in particular, data from Asia, Africa, South America, North America and large parts of South-Eastern Europe are unavailable. There is a large variation in gl

Association of Locus Xq26.1-27.3 with Erosive Tooth Wear Phenotypes in a Group of Adolescents.

Erosive tooth wear is a multifactorial condition of an increasing prevalence. There is a need for discovering individual genetic predisposition for the development of this condition. Considering that the chromosome X locus was previously shown to be associated with dental caries, the aim of the present study was to look for the association between this locus and erosive tooth wear when dietary habits are considered as a co-factor. Saliva samples, erosive wear experience data, and dietary information from 16- to 18-year-old dental patients (n = 705) were used. Genotyping analyses were performed

Dental erosion and severe tooth decay related to soft drinks: a case report and literature review.

Soft drinks have many potential health problems. The inherent acids and sugars have both acidogenic and cariogenic potential, resulting in dental caries and potential enamel erosion. In this report we present a 25-year-old man complaining with the severe worn-out of the front teeth during the past 3 years. He had a history of drinking cola for more than 7 years and had a poor oral hygiene. Severe decays were present in the incisors and the canines, while less severe lesions were noted on the premolars and the molars. The review is to show the relationship between dental erosion and caries and

The erosive effect of various drinks, foods, stimulants, medications and mouthwashes on human tooth enamel.

Two forms of non-carious dental disorder - erosive tooth hard tissue loss and dental erosion - have been increasingly observed in recent years. Dental erosion is the chemical loss of dental hard substances caused by exposure to acids not derived from oral bacteria. Mechanical forces from, for example, the tongue, the cheeks or toothbrushing, increase loss of partly-demineralized tooth surfaces and the cumulative loss of dental hard tissue is defined as erosive tooth wear (ETW). Dental hard tissue losses which occur because of very frequent acid exposure, such as through increased vomiting, but
