The Parasites of Cats in Türkiye.

Cats have an important and different place due to their close relationships with humans. Since most of the parasites they carry are zoonotic, it is important to detect them. According to the research, Dipylidium caninum, Joyeuxiella pasqualei, Toxocara spp., Toxascaris leonina, Giardia spp., Isospora spp., and Toxoplasma sp. were found to be higher in cats compared to other parasites. It has been determined that scabies and flea infestations are common as ectoparasites. This review aims to present the reported parasites and their prevalence rates in cats in Türkiye.

Survey on helminths in the small intestine of wild foxes in Qinghai, China.

The intestinal helminth fauna of Tibetan sand foxes (Vulpes ferrilata) and red foxes (Vulpes vulpes) inhabiting in Qinghai, China, was evaluated by conducting necropsy of hunted foxes and fecal egg examination of field-collected feces. In northeast and south Qinghai, 36 foxes were necropsied, and the species of foxes and the parasites detected were identified by the DNA barcoding. In 27 red foxes and 9 Tibetan sand foxes examined, Mesocestoides litteratus (total prevalence: 64%), Toxascaris leonina (50%), Taenia pisiformis (8%) and Taenia crassiceps (8%) were found in both species of foxes. Distribution of Parasitic Helminths in the Small Intestine of the Red Fox (Vulpes vulpes).

The aim of the study was to analyze the distribution of the main groups of parasitic helminths within the small intestine of the red fox on the example of animals coming from eastern Poland. Two hundred and sixteen red foxes shot in eastern Poland were used in the investigation. Before examination, each small intestine was divided into three equal parts: anterior (A), middle (M), and posterior (P). Each part was examined separately with the sedimentation and counting technique. Six different types of intestinal parasites were detected: Alaria alata (78.7%), Mesocestoides spp. (78.2%), hookworm

Changes in the blood picture of white mice experimentally infected with various species of ascarids.

The blood picture was studied in white mice experimentally infected with Ascaris suum, Toxocara cati, and Toxascaris leonina. In mice infected with A. suum, maximum number (17%) of eosinophiles occurred on day 28 p.i. In mice infected with T. cati, the eosinophilia increased already from the first day after infection, reaching the maximum (26%) on day 21 p.i. In mice infected with T. leonina, the eosinophilia increased from day 7 to day 28 p.i. and a slightly increased number of eosinophiles persisted during the whole experiment.

Prevalence of zoonotic intestinal parasites in domestic and stray dogs in a rural area of Iran.

Certain zoonotic parasites are enteropathogens in dogs that cause serious human disease such as cystic echinococcosis, human alveolar echinococcosis, visceral larva migrans, and ocular larva migrans. This study investigated the prevalence of intestinal parasites in dogs in the Chenaran County, Razavi Khorasan Province, Iran. Sampling was carried out randomly in 17 villages from November 2009 to January 2010. Seventy-seven fecal samples from 28 domestic and 49 stray dogs were examined using sieving/flotation and modified Ziehl-Neelsen staining. Intestinal parasites were found in 51 of the 77 (6

Comparison of counterimmunoelectrophoresis with indirect haemagglutination test in the detection of antibodies in rabbits experimentally infected with various species of ascarids.

Counterimmunoelectrophoresis (CIEP) and indirect haemagglutination (IHA) were used for the detection of antibodies in 437 sera of rabbits experimentally infected with Ascaris suum, Toxocara canis and Toxascaris leonina. CIEP showed 44.0-52.3% positivity in A. suum, 25.5% in T. canis and 19.7-29.2% in T. leonina infection, whereas the positivity detected by IHA was 59.8-90.2% in A. suum, 44.8% in T. canis and 59.6% in T. leonina infection. A comparison of the two tests reveals that CIEP is a suitable, rapid and simple method for orientation examinations in ascarid infections.

The molecular epidemiology of Cryptosporidium and Giardia infections in coyotes from Alberta, Canada, and observations on some cohabiting parasites.

Coyotes from southern Alberta and Saskatchewan, Canada, were examined for the presence of Giardia and Cryptosporidium and cohabiting helminths. Toxascaris was present in over 90% of the 70 animals examined, and Taenia sp. in 6.5-25% of the two groups of animals studied. Giardia (12.5-21.7%) and Cryptosporidium (0-17.4%) were also common and molecular characterisation revealed both zoonotic and host-adapted genotypes of Giardia, whereas the Cryptosporidium proved to be a variant of the canine species C. canis. The seasonal variation observed in the occurrence of Cryptosporidium may be related t

A survey of patent nematode infestations in dogs.

A survey of faecal samples taken from 1000 suburban dogs revealed an infestation of 7-2 per cent Toxocara canis, 2-7 per cent Toxascaris leonina, 1-3 per cent Trichuris vulpis and 1-3 per cent Uncinaria stenocephala. The faecal material examined was obtained per rectum from well cared-for pet dogs resident in an area of north-west suburban London. The age of the dogs examined, both male and female, ranged from three weeks to 18 years. The clinical picture of the dogs affected by ascariasis and in particular Toxocara canis is described and some advice on treatment is included.

[Relationships between the prevalence of Toxocara eggs in dogs' faeces and soil].

Toxocariasis is a cosmopolitan infection of dogs and cats. Humans (mainly children) become infected by accidentally ingesting embryonated eggs from the environment. The studies were conducted on the role of dogs in the epidemiology of human toxocariasis. A total of 112 soil samples and 110 fecal samples were collected from the same public places in Poznań, including backyards in the centre of the city, playgrounds and public squares grounds. Of these soil samples, 6.3 % were positive for Toxocara spp., 1.8 % for Trichuris vulpis. Fecal examination revealed that 0.9 % samples were positive for

Prevalence, risk factors and zoonotic potential of intestinal parasites in dogs from four locations in Morocco.

Dogs can harbor various intestinal parasites that have serious clinical, economic, and zoonotic impact. In Morocco, the epidemiological status of those parasites is largely unknown. This study aimed to obtain data on the prevalence of intestinal parasites in various Moroccan dog populations, to identify associated risk factors, to evaluate people's knowledge regarding zoonotic parasites and to estimate the risk of human infection. A total of 291 fecal samples were analyzed using a 33% Zinc Sulphate (ZnSO4) centrifugal flotation and a sheather's sugar simple flotation techniques. In addition, 1

The role of dogs in transmission of Ascaris lumbricoides for humans.

The dog's role as a definitive host for a number of zoonotic parasites has been widely studied and recognized as being a significant public health problem worldwide. This study aimed to report, for the first time, our investigation into the role of dogs as a biological transmitter for Ascaris lumbricoides, via necropsy of a sample of rural stray dogs in a developing community in Giza governorate, Egypt, where promiscuous defecation by human was common, and examination for A. lumbricoides worms as well as other ascaridiod nematodes of dogs. The recovered worms were identified in the laboratory

Prevalence of Toxocara spp. eggs in the soil of public parks in Ankara, Turkey.

One hundred and seventy soil samples from forty-six public parks in Ankara area were examined to determine the level of contamination with Toxocara spp. eggs. 30.6% of the 170 soil samples were contaminated with Toxocara spp. eggs. The number of eggs in the positive soil samples varied from 1 to 10. A high proportion of the eggs was fully embryonated. The findings demonstrate the common occurrence of these eggs in locations likely to be important in the transmission of visceral larva migrans. Of 19 fecal collected, 5 (26.3%) contained Toxocara spp. eggs. Eggs of Ancylostomidae, Toxascaris leon
