In this report, we present two cases of bronchial foreign body granulomas caused by the suture ties used in bronchial surgery for esophageal cancer. Both of them was hospitalized as "tumor transfer or an invasion", but pathological examination of the neoplasms indicated an inflammatory granuloma showing reaction to the foreign body. These two cases give us an attention that the neoplasms in tracheal or bronchial was not only the invasion or transfer of the primary tumor, but also the possibility of granuloma development due to the surgical sutures.

BACKGROUND: Nuclear protein in testis (NUT) carcinoma is a rare and highly aggressive solid tumor with a poor overall survival outcome. There's no recognized treatment or consensus on the management for NUT carcinoma. To date, few cases of tracheal NUT carcinomas have been reported, and the prognosis of these cases was dismal. We report a rare case of tracheal resection and reconstruction performed under non-intubated anesthesia for tracheal NUT carcinoma with good outcomes, aiming to contribute our experience in the surgical treatment of tracheal NUT carcinoma.

BACKGROUND: Resection of tracheal tumors is particularly challenging when the neoplasm involves the carina or is located in close proximity. We reviewed our experience with 22 tracheal resections for tumor.
METHODS: In this retrospective review, adenoid cystic carcinoma was diagnosed in 13 patients, squamous cell carcinoma in 5, typical carcinoid in 2, and leiomyoma and benign fibrous histiocytoma, in 1 each. There were 19 segmental resections with direct anastomosis, and 3 complex resections in which the carina was involved.
RESULTS: One patient with tumor in the trachea and left main bronc

Primary tracheal tumors represent less than 1% of all pulmonary neoplasms, with endobronchial leiomyomas accounting for a minute fraction of benign airway lesions. Due to their slow growth and nonspecific clinical presentation, these tumors are frequently misdiagnosed as obstructive airway diseases, such as asthma. We report the case of a 27-year-old female with a 3-year history of progressive, treatment-resistant respiratory symptoms initially managed as severe asthma. Despite escalating medical therapy, her condition deteriorated, culminating in an emergency department presentation with fulm

INTRODUCTION: Tracheal papilloma presenting as asthma is a rare occurrence.
CASE STUDY: We report a case of a 32-year-old male patient who presented with features of asthma. Flexible bronchoscopy demonstrated a large growth arising from the lower end of the trachea. Successful treatment using snare loop and argon plasma coagulation (APC) of the polyploidal growth was performed via flexible bronchoscope.
RESULTS: The patient had immediate relief of airway obstruction and histopathological examination of the neoplasm demonstrated features of papilloma.
CONCLUSION: Primary tracheal papilloma i

An 8-year-and-1-month-old female blue tegu (Salvator merianae) was brought to a clinician with severe cough. The patient died 11 days later despite supportive care, and necropsy was performed by a clinician. The lumen of the distal trachea was almost completely occluded by a milk-white, hard mass measuring 1 cm in diameter. Histopathologically, the mass comprised spindle-shaped to polygonal cells arranged in a loose sheet with abundant production of basophilic cartilaginous matrix, consistent with chondrosarcoma. Reports of tracheal neoplasms in reptiles are limited, and to the best of our kno

BACKGROUND: Primary tracheal hyalinizing clear cell carcinoma (HCCC) is an exceptionally rare, low-grade malignant epithelial tumor. Its nonspecific respiratory manifestations and overlapping histopathological features with other clear cell neoplasms can delay diagnosis. Molecular alterations involving the Ewing sarcoma breakpoint region 1 (EWSR1) gene are diagnostically valuable; however, the clinicopathological features, optimal management, and long-term outcomes of tracheal HCCC remain insufficiently characterized. We present two cases to expand the limited evidence regarding its diagnosis

BACKGROUND: Tracheal or cricotracheal resection is the standard of care for definitive treatment of tracheal stenosis. However, the incidence is low, the management is complex, and only a few centres have reported their experience. Therefore, more clinical reports on this topic are needed.
METHODS: We performed a retrospective analysis of all patients who underwent tracheal or cricotracheal resection for malignant or benign tracheal stenosis in our institution between 2001 and 2016. Fisher’s exact test was used for analysis of complications and recurrence. P-value <0.05 was considere

BACKGROUND: Pediatric tracheal procedures are uncommon. We reviewed our experience to clarify management and results.
METHODS: Retrospective single-institution review of pediatric tracheal operations, 1978 to 2001.
RESULTS: One hundred sixteen children were evaluated, mean age 10.4 years (10 days to 18 years). Tracheal pathology was postintubation stenosis (n = 72; 62%), congenital stenosis (n = 23; 20%), neoplasm (n = 8; 7%), tracheomalacia (n = 7; 6%), and trauma (n = 6; 5%). Twenty-nine patients had previous tracheal operations. Thirty-six patients received only a minor procedure. Eighty

BACKGROUND: Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumours (MPNSTs) of the trachea are extremely uncommon neoplasms with unknown genetic and clinical profiles. Only individual cases have been reported in the literature to date.
CASE PRESENTATION: Here, we present a rare case of a 61-year-old female patient with a primary MPNST of the trachea who complained of irritating cough and progressively increasing breathlessness for 4 weeks. This patient initially underwent intraluminal resection of the mass and was misdiagnosed with clear cell sarcoma. Less than a year later, the mass relapsed, and the obs

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficacy of segmental tracheal resection with end-to-end anastomosis for cicatricial cervical tracheal stenosis.
METHODS: The clinical outcomes of 40 patients treated with tracheal resection were retrospectively reviewed. There were 28 male patients and 12 female patients with the age ranged from 6 to 64 years (mean 33.7 years). The degree of stenosis was classified according to Myer-Cotton classification as follows: grade Ⅱ (n=7), grade Ⅲ (n=22) and grade Ⅳ (n=11). The stenosis extension ranged from 1.0 to 4.3 cm (mean 2.5 cm). The causes of the stenosis were posti

BACKGROUND: Tracheal myoepithelioma is a rare, low-grade malignant tumor originating from salivary gland tissue. This article presents a case of tracheal myoepithelioma without clinical symptoms, diagnosed and treated using flexible video bronchoscopy.
CASE REPORT: A 44-year-old male patient, asymptomatic for respiratory issues, was found to have a tracheal mass during a routine chest CT scan. The mass showed no significant changes over the course of one year. Upon admission, flexible video bronchoscopy revealed a coral-like neoplasm. The tumor was resected using a high-frequency electrocaute

Tracheal carcinoid tumours are exceptionally rare neuroendocrine neoplasms, particularly in the paediatric population. We present the case of a teenage girl with longstanding dyspnoea and intermittent haemoptysis, ultimately diagnosed with a typical carcinoid involving the distal trachea and both main bronchi. Bronchoscopy biopsy confirmed the diagnosis. She underwent tracheal resection and complex carinal reconstruction with cardiopulmonary bypass. Histopathology revealed a grade 1 typical carcinoid with metastatic involvement in two of five subcarinal lymph nodes. Postoperative recovery was

A left lung mass after induction and tracheal intubation, which partially was obstructing the left main bronchus, was accidentally discovered in a 56-year-old female scheduled to undergo elective total thyroidectomy. Her preoperative chest X-ray showed a right-sided shift of the trachea. She did not have stridor or shortness of breath or superior vena cava obstructive syndrome. Induction and tracheal intubation were performed uneventfully. Fiberoptic bronchoscopy performed and showed complete obstruction on the left main bronchus. Excision biopsy suggested mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC). MEC i

Patient presented as a 74-year-old male complaining of hoarseness. Electronic laryngoscope showed a neoplasm whose size was about 1.0 cm×0.5 cm×0.5 cm at anterior commissure. A surgery was conducted to excise the neoplasm en bloc. The histopathological and immunohistochemistry examination suggested inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor. A month later, the patient presented with dyspnea and blood-stained sputum. CT scan of neck showed an occupation lesions under glottis. A tracheotomy and a CO₂ laser surgery was conducted due to patient's will. The histopathological and immunohistochemistry examin

Airway cancers have been increasing in recent years. Tracheal resection is commonly performed during surgery and is burdened from post-operative complications severely affecting quality of life. Tracheal resection is usually carried out in primary tracheal tumors or other neoplasms of the neck region. Regenerative medicine for tracheal replacement using bio-prosthesis is under current research. In recent years, attempts were made to replace and transplant human cadaver trachea. An effective vascular supply is fundamental for a successful tracheal transplantation. The use of biological scaffold

RATIONALE: Tracheal tumors are a relatively uncommon pathology, with the majority being malignant, accounting for approximately 75% of all tracheal neoplasms. These tumors can lead to airway narrowing and obstruction, resulting in significant respiratory symptoms such as dyspnea. This case report discusses a patient with a tracheal tumor located at the carina, which caused complete obstruction of the left main bronchus and severe narrowing of the right main bronchus.
PATIENT CONCERNS: The patient presented with acute dyspnea due to the significant airway obstruction caused by the tumor.

A variety of common and uncommon conditions affect the trachea. Respiratory symptoms rarely occur until there is a 50% narrowing of the trachea. Chondromalacia, sometimes seen in conjunction with congenital tracheoesophageal fistula, can be identified with fluoroscopy. Patients with tracheal narrowing who undergo general anesthesia are at great risk for life-threatening acute airway obstruction after removal of the tube. Tracheal narrowing is associated with calcified mediastinal and hilar masses in fibrosing mediastinitis. Tracheal widening has been reported in 30% of patients with pulmonary
