The expression of MHC Class I and Class II antigens was investigated in the human uvea using monoclonal antibodies in an indirect immunofluorescence technique. During the 25-year period 1955 to 1979, 29 cases of malignant melanoma of the choroid and ciliary body, and 4 cases of melanoma of the iris, were diagnosed in Iceland. Excluding the iris melanomas, the annual incidence rate per 100 000, adjusted to standardized Icelandic population, was 0.7 in males and 0.5 in females. Congenital Ectropion Uveae (CEU) is a rare anomaly characterised by ectropion uveae, iris hypoplasia, iridotrabecular dysgenesis and glaucoma. Hyperplasia of the iris pigment epithelium and its apparent spread over the anterior surface of the iris is supposed to cause the classic ectropion uveae in CEU. Congenital ectropion uveae (CEU) is a rare anomaly characterized by ectropion uveae, iris hypoplasia, iridotrabecular dysgenesis and glaucoma. The apparent ectropion uveae results from the spread of iris pigment epithelium beyond the iris ruff and onto the anterior surface of the iris. Conclusion Open-angle glaucoma results due to angle dysgenesis, so patients should be carefully examined periodically for its early detection.

Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) metabolism into 3 series cyclooxygenase and 5 series lipoxygenase products was assessed in human and rabbit anterior uvea. Both tissues synthesized 3 series cyclooxygenase products such as delta17 6-keto-PGF1 (PGI3 metabolite), PGE3 alpha, PGE3, PGD3 and TxB3 (a stable product of TxA3) and lipoxygenase products 12-hydroxyeicosapentaenoic acid (HEPE), 5-HEPE and 5,12-diHEPE from 14C-EPA. EPA-derived cyclooxygenase product synthesis was considerably greater than the formation of lipoxygenase products from EPA in both tissues.

This article details a previously undescribed complication of trabeculotomy occurring in a patient with congenital ectropion uvea and discusses its possible association with an anterior chamber membrane. A 6-year-old boy with congenital ectropion uvea underwent trabeculotomy. PURPOSE: To determine the visual outcomes and effectiveness of glaucoma surgeries in congenital ectropion uvea.
DESIGN: Retrospective interventional case series.
METHODS: Surgeries and examination findings were collected on 11 eyes of 8 patients with congenital ectropion uvea at 2 academic sites from 2001 to 2021. Visual outcomes, surgical success (intraocular pressure [IOP]: 5-20 mm Hg, no additional IOP-lowering surgery, no visually devastating complications), and survival rates of glaucoma surgeries were assessed.

Mononuclear cell infiltrate (MCI) in the uvea was observed in naïve, untreated (control group) cynomolgus monkeys in approximately 25% of drug safety evaluation studies. The total incidence of MCI in the choroid and the ciliary body was 29% of 342 males and 25% of 306 female monkeys. In the studies in which MCI was present in the ciliary body or choroid, the incidence was as high as 75%. There were no other ocular histopathologic findings in these monkeys. All monkeys were clinically healthy and the eyes were not remarkable when examined ophthalmoscopically.

Primary congenital ectropion uveae is an extremely rare ocular malformation frequently associated with unilateral glaucoma. We report on a 15-year-old boy with unilateral congenital ectropion uveae, glaucoma and transvitreal strands in an optically empty vitreous. Nineteen patients with malignant uveal melanomas were treated with I-125 applicators. There were 10 males and 9 females with a median age of 61 years (range 42-76). We present nine patients with unilateral congenital ectropion uveae (hyperplasia of the iris pigment border), iris hypoplasia, characteristic gonioscopic findings, and glaucoma.
