OBJECTIVE: To estimate whether a history of a previous successful vaginal birth after cesarean delivery (VBAC) has an effect on a subsequent VBAC attempt.
METHODS: A chart review of cases identified from the International Classification of Diseases, 9th Revision (ICD-9) codes and cases identified in the logbooks on Labor and Delivery yielded 1,216 cases of attempted VBAC from 1996 to 2000. Data gathered from these cases included history of previous successful VBAC. Variables of interest included previous successful normal spontaneous vaginal delivery, history of diabetes, labor induction, and

OBJECTIVES: With increasing rates of cesarean delivery across the United States, a trial of labor after cesarean (TOLAC) is a reasonable alternative for qualified candidates. Although Müllerian anomalies are associated with a variety of adverse pregnancy outcomes, there is little existing data regarding TOLAC in these patients. We present a case of a patient with a didelphys uterus who achieved a successful vaginal birth after cesarean section (VBAC) in the setting of labor augmentation.
CASE PRESENTATION: Our patient is a 32-year-old G4P1021 (Gravida 4 Para 1,021-1 term delivery, 0 preterm d

OBJECTIVE: To develop a model based on factors available at the first prenatal visit that predicts chance of successful vaginal birth after cesarean delivery (VBAC) for individual patients who undergo a trial of labor.
METHODS: All women with one prior low transverse cesarean who underwent a trial of labor at term with a vertex singleton gestation were identified from a concurrently collected database of deliveries at 19 academic centers during a 4-year period. Using factors identifiable at the first prenatal visit, we analyzed different classification techniques in an effort to develop a mea

BACKGROUND: A validated model exists that predicts the probability of vaginal birth after cesarean delivery in patients at term who are undergoing a trial of labor after cesarean delivery. However, a model that predicts the success of a vaginal birth after cesarean delivery in the preterm period has not been developed.
OBJECTIVE: We sought to develop and validate a predictive model for vaginal birth after cesarean delivery for women undergoing a trial of labor after cesarean delivery during the preterm period.
STUDY DESIGN: We performed a secondary analysis of a prospective cohort study desi

OBJECTIVE: To estimate the association between neonatal birth weight and adverse obstetric outcomes in women attempting vaginal birth after cesarean.
METHODS: We reviewed the medical records of all women undergoing a trial of labor after a prior low transverse cesarean delivery in our institution between 1987 and 2004. Patients were categorized according to birth weight (less than 3,500 g [group 1, reference], 3,500-3,999 g [group 2], and 4,000 g or more [group 3]) and prior vaginal delivery. The rates of failed trial of labor, uterine rupture, shoulder dystocia, and third- and fourth-degree

BACKGROUND: Cesarean section rates are rising in the world. Women with a history of cesarean section will select a cesarean section at the next pregnancy. An objective and accurate prediction about the success rate of vaginal delivery after cesarean section can help women to reduce the complications caused by cesarean section, shorten the time spent in the hospital, and effectively plan medical resources.
OBJECTIVE: To systematically review and critically assess the existing prediction models of vaginal delivery after cesarean section.
METHODS: Some databases (PubMed, Web of Science, EMBASE,

OBJECTIVE: To describe patient approaches to navigating their probability of a vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC) within the context of prediction scores generated from the original Maternal-Fetal Medicine Units' VBAC calculator, which incorporated race and ethnicity as one of six risk factors.
METHODS: We invited a diverse group of participants with a history of prior cesarean delivery to participate in interviews and have their prenatal visits recorded. Using an open-ended iterative interview guide, we queried and observed these individuals' mode-of-birth decisions in the context of their

BACKGROUND: Previous cesarean delivery is a risk factor for developing placenta accreta spectrum in a subsequent pregnancy and patients with antenatally suspected placenta accreta spectrum frequently undergo planned cesarean hysterectomy. There is a paucity of data regarding unsuspected placenta accreta spectrum among patients undergoing trial of labor after cesarean delivery for attempted vaginal birth after cesarean delivery.
OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to investigate the incidence, characteristics, and delivery outcomes of patients with placenta accreta spectrum diagnosed at the time of va

OBJECTIVE: Vaginal birth after cesarean section (VBAC) is recommended by obstetrical guidelines or expert consensuses. However, no valid tools can exactly predict who can have a vaginal birth among eligible candidates with one prior cesarean section. In recent years, machine learning (ML) is gradually used to develop predictive models in obstetrics and midwifery owing to its excellent performance. This study aimed to develop an explainable ML model to predict the chance of successful VBAC.
METHODS: A total of 2438 pregnant women with trial of labor after cesarean (TOLAC) were analyzed from tw

INTRODUCTION: Digital health services are a promising but understudied method for reducing common barriers to vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC), including connection to facilities offering labor after cesarean and patient-centered counseling about mode of birth. This study assesses the relationship between use of digital prenatal services and VBAC.
METHODS: In this retrospective cohort study, we analyzed the use of digital prenatal services and mode of birth among users of an employer-sponsored digital women's and family digital health platform. All users had a prior cesarean birth. Users'

In this issue of Med, Song et al. compared 174 maternal and 177 infant microbiota after vaginal and cesarean delivery, including 30 vaginally seeded cesarean-born infants. Vaginal seeding partially corrected the microbial divergence observed between cesarean- and vaginal-born infant microbiomes. Infant microbiota resembled corresponding maternal sites, despite delivery mode or seeding.

We assessed the rate of uterine rupture in patients undergoing labor induction for attempted vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC). A retrospective study was performed of data from a computerized database. Deliveries from January 1, 1998, to June 30, 2001, in the Southern California Kaiser Permanente system were reviewed and various perinatal characteristics analyzed. A total of 16,218 patients had a prior low transverse cesarean section. Of these, 6832 (42.1%) had a trial of labor. Successful VBAC occurred in 86% of patients with spontaneous onset of labor and 66% of patients with labor inducti
