The effects of different vasovasostomy techniques on motility of vas deferens (vas motility following vasovasostomy).

PURPOSE: Vasovasostomy is used to correct vas deferens (VD) transections encountered during surgery or to reverse sterilization vasectomies. Achieving vasal patency is the primary goal and the success is assessed on various factors including VD patency, flow rates, and pregnancy rates. While preserving vas motility is not a major concern in surgical practice, it is worth noting that VD has peristaltic activity which plays crucial role during ejaculation. Any disruption in its motility could potentially lead to negative outcomes in the future. We conducted an experimental study to assess vas mo

Injury to the pre-pubertal vas deferens. I. Histological analysis of pre-pubertal human vas.

There is very little information in the literature on the development of the human vas deferens. Therefore, the age at which the pre- or para-pubertal vas deferens becomes large enough for a vasovasostomy to be technically feasible is unknown. To determine the age or degree of sexual maturity at which a microscopic vasovasostomy is technically feasible, we collected surgical or autopsy vasa from 34 young males over a three year period, and correlated vasal size to age and Tanner stage (degree of sexual maturity ranging from 1-childhood to 5-adult). The specimens were embedded and sectioned tra

Laparoscopy-assisted vasovasostomy for post-herniorrhaphy vas deferens obstruction.

INTRODUCTION: Repair of obstructive azoospermia caused by childhood herniorrhaphy may be difficult. Therefore, intracytoplasmic sperm injection using testicular sperm is performed. However, vasovasostomy combined with laparoscopic surgery is challenging. CASE PRESENTATION: A 42-year-old man underwent inguinal hernia repair at age 3. He had normal testicular size, azoospermia, normal hormone levels (follicle-stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone, and testosterone), absence of Y chromosome micro deletion, and karyotype:46XY, t(1:21)(p34.1:q22.3). He was diagnosed with obstructive azoospermia

Unilateral duplication of vas deferens: a cadaveric case report.

Duplication of vas deferens is a rare congenital anomaly. All previously reported cases of this rare anomaly were identified during procedures such as orchiepexy, inguinal hernia repair, vasectomy, varicocoelectomy, and radical prostatectomy. Here, we report a case of unilateral duplicated vas deferens noted in an adult cadaver during regular dissection for medical students. The right spermatic cord contained 2 separate and completely developed cord-like structures. Both cords communicated separately with the tail of the epididymis. When traced cranially, both traversed the inguinal canal as c

Management of the looping vas deferens during laparoscopic orchiopexy.

PURPOSE: A number of variables should be assessed during laparoscopic orchiopexy, including vas anatomy. A looping vas deferens enters the inguinal canal and loops back to the abdominal cavity. This anatomical variant is not uncommonly encountered. Some groups considered this condition in their laparoscopic classification of nonpalpable testis. We present our experience with managing the looping vas during laparoscopic orchiopexy. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We identified this condition in 18 procedures. In 14 cases it was possible to bring the vas back to the abdominal cavity. In 3 cases the loop

High-resolution sonography of the normal extrapelvic vas deferens.

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to determine the reliability of sonographic visualization of the normal extrapelvic vas deferens and to analyze its appearance and dimensions. METHODS: Scans of the scrotum and spermatic cords were obtained in 25 fertile volunteers. Identification of the vas deferens was attempted bilaterally in the scrotal, suprascrotal, and prepubic segments in all volunteers. When possible, the total thickness and the diameter of the lumen were measured. Visualization and dimensions were correlated with the body mass index (BMI) and abstinence interval. RESULTS: Al

Microsurgery of cryptorchidism. I: Lengthening the short vas deferens.

About 70% of patients with cryptorchidism have a vas deferens that is so short that ideal scrotal positioning of the testis cannot be achieved, even with microvascular lengthening of the testicular vascular pedicle. A new method of microvascular testicular autotransplantation is presented for those patients with short vasa. The technique involves the complete dissection of the vas deferens from the retrovesical space down to the epididymodeferential loop and transposition of the testis into the scrotum in the upside-down position. By this maneuver, extra length is gained equal to the longitudi

Calcification of the vas deferens and seminal vesicles: a review.

INTRODUCTION: Calcification of the vas deferens and seminal vesicles is a rare condition of unknown incidence. It has been described in association with diabetes, hyperparathyroidism and genitourinary tuberculosis, amongst other conditions. Little is known about the clinical significance and management of this condition. We review the literature in an effort to find answers about an entity that is frequently appreciated as an incidental finding. MATERIALS AND METHODS: An electronic database search was performed (Medline) using the key words: vas deferens; seminal vesicles; calcification, alon

Physiological and pharmacological aspects of the vas deferens-an update.

The vas deferens, a muscular conduit conveying spermatozoa from the epididymis to the urethra, has been used as a model tissue for smooth muscle pharmacological and physiological advancements. Many drugs, notably α-adrenergic antagonists, have effects on contractility and thus normal ejaculation, incurring significant side effects for patients that may interfere with compliance. A more thorough understanding of the innervation and neurotransmitter pharmacology of the vas has indicated that this is a highly complex structure and a model for co-transmission at the synapse. Recent models have sho

A case report of solitary neurofibroma of the Vas deferens.

Solitary neurofibroma of the male genital tract is a rare benign peripheral nerve sheath tumor which is considered to originate from the Schwann cell. Neurofibroma of the male genital tract has been reported extremely rarely in the literature. We present a case of neurofibroma of the Vas deferens in a 59-year-old patient. The clinical and pathological data of a patient with Neurofibroma of the Vas deferens were retrospectively analyzed and radical resection of the left side spermatic cord tumor was performed. This case report will help in understanding this rare tumor.

Ultrasonography in Diagnosis of Congenital Absence of the Vas Deferens.

BACKGROUND Congenital absence of the vas deferens is an important cause of obstructive azoospermia, and the lack of an imaging diagnostic test is a critical problem. The aim of this study is to discuss the use of ultrasonography in congenital absence of vas deferens, including dysplasia of the epididymis and the seminal vesical. MATERIAL AND METHODS Five fresh spermatic cord specimens were detected by ultrasonography (US) to evaluate the image of the spermatic cord segment of the vas deferens. Fifty normal males had scrotal US to confirm whether the normal spermatic cord segment of the vas def

[Experimental study of reconstruction of the vas deferens in the rat].

We performed vasectomy and microsurgical repair of the vas deferens in 20 rats utilizing absorbable and non-absorbable 10-0 sutures. At 40 days the results of the repair procedure were evaluated by seminal fluid and fertility analyses, deferentography, and histologic examination of the anastomoses. The procedure failed in one case that presented occlusion of the spermatic cord from a granuloma.

Sympathetic denervation of the smooth muscle of the vas deferens.

1. The post-ganglionic nerve fibres to the vas deferens of the guinea-pig and rat were interrupted in vivo by stripping one vas deferens of its serous coat; the other vas deferens was left intact as a control.2. Four to eight days later the stripped vas deferens did not contract in response to electrical transmural stimulation in vitro at 0.1 msec pulse duration. Pulses of 1.0 msec duration produced small contractions which were not abolished by local anaesthetic or adrenergic neurone-blocking drugs.3. Log dose-response curves to noradrenaline were, for stripped vasa deferentia, to the left of

Transverse testicular ectopia with fused vas deferens: A systematic review.

BACKGROUND: Transverse testicular ectopia (TTE) with fused vas deferens is an extremely rare anomaly, often diagnosed intraoperatively. Current TTE classifications do not address internal ductal variations, limiting surgical guidance. OBJECTIVE: To systematically review cases of TTE with fused vas deferens, summarize presentation, operative strategies, outcomes and identify patterns that highlight the need for classification refinement. METHODS: A PRISMA 2020-compliant systematic review (PROSPERO; CRD420251247785) was performed across PubMed, ScienceDirect and citation of included articles t

A Case of Duplicated Vas Deferens Found Incidentally during Varicocelectomy.

Duplication of the vas deferens is a very rare congenital anomaly in which two vasa deferentia coexist within the spermatic cord. Duplication of the vas deferens can be found during herniorrhaphy, vasectomy, and varicocelectomy performed on the spermatic cord or around the spermatic cord. However, it is estimated that the incidence of duplication of the vas deferens is under-reported and under-recognized. Unless anomalies of the vas deferens such as duplication of the vas deferens are recognized by surgeons, it will be difficult to reduce vas deferens injuries and achieve a satisfactory surgic
