Vascular Plug Closure of Delayed Leaflet Perforation Post-TEER in Patient With Multiple Implantable Devices.

BACKGROUND: Transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (TEER) is the main minimally invasive therapy for severe mitral regurgitation (MR) in patients at high surgical risk. Roughly 10% of patients develop recurrent MR within 1 year postoperatively. Postprocedural mitral anatomical distortion complicates reintervention, rendering recurrent MR management a common clinical challenge. CASE SUMMARY: A 63-year-old man with multivalvular heart disease, chronic heart failure, multiple implantable devices and dialysis-dependent end-stage renal disease presented with symptomatic severe recurrent MR secondary to

Successful off-label use of vascular closure devices in fully percutaneous transaxillary aortic valve implantation.

BACKGROUND: The axillary artery is an alternative access- site for transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) when femoral arteries are unfavourable. Simplified transaxillary-TAVI (TAx-TAVI) is performed completely percutaneously, using vascular closure device (VCD) techniques for arteriotomy closure. Concerns exist regarding major vascular complications with this technique. This registry-study describes off-label VCD use during simplified TAx-TAVI. METHODS: Consecutive severe aortic stenosis patients unsuitable for both surgery and transfemoral access were enrolled in our heart valve reg

Outcomes of vascular closure devices for femoral venous hemostasis following catheter ablation of atrial fibrillation.

INTRODUCTION: Access site complications remain common following atrial fibrillation (AF) catheter ablation. Femoral vascular closure devices (VCDs) reduce time to hemostasis compared with manual compression, although large-scale data comparing clinical outcomes between the two approaches are lacking. METHODS: Two cohorts of patients undergoing AF ablation were identified from 36 healthcare organizations using a global federated research network (TriNetX): those receiving a VCD for femoral hemostasis, and those not receiving a VCD. A 1:1 propensity score matching (PSM) model based on baseline

A propensity analysis of the risk of vascular complications after cardiac catheterization procedures with the use of vascular closure devices.

BACKGROUND: Complications of vascular access are one of the most common adverse events after coronary angiography and percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and are reported to occur in 1% to 9% of cases. There are conflicting reports of the association of vascular complications with the use of vascular closure devices (VCDs). The purpose of this study was to assess femoral arterial access-related vascular outcomes after invasive cardiology procedures with the routine use of VCDs. METHODS: A total of 12,937 consecutive patients were studied for inhospital outcomes through a prospective regi

Vascular closure devices and the risk of vascular complications after percutaneous coronary intervention in patients receiving glycoprotein IIb-IIIa inhibitors.

Vascular closure devices offer advantages over traditional means of obtaining hemostasis after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in terms of patient comfort and time to ambulation. We investigate whether such devices also reduce the risk of vascular complications in selected patient populations. We conducted a retrospective analysis of all patients who underwent PCI at our institution between January 1998 and December 1999. Of 3,151 consecutive patients, 3,027 were eligible to receive vascular closure devices. Of these, 1,485 received a closure device and 1,409 received glycoprotein IIb

Plug-based vascular closure device in transfemoral transcatheter aortic valve implantation.

OBJECTIVES: Failure of vascular closure device (VCD) is the most common cause of access-site vascular complications in transfemoral transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). The authors sought to determine if the systematic use of arteriotomy-site ballooning with concomitant manual compression following the delivery of a plug-based VCD (MANTA, Teleflex) can optimize toggle-plug assembly apposition to the common femoral artery (CFA) wall and improve the final hemostatic efficacy. METHODS: In this prospective, observational, single-center study, 323 consecutive patients undergoing transfe

Early experience with CELT ACD vascular access closure device for neurointerventional procedures.

INTRODUCTION: The CELT ACD (Vasorum Ltd, Dublin, Ireland) is an access closure device achieving hemostasis with a steel radiopaque structure deployed into the arterial wall without sheath exchange. There is limited data regarding its use in neurointerventional procedures, particularly with larger arteriotomies. METHODS: A prospective registry of neurointerventional procedures at a single center between July 2024 and February 2025 was retrospectively reviewed. Consecutive transfemoral cases with 6, 7, and 8F sheaths undergoing closure with a newly-deployed 6 or 7F CELT were included. The prima

Transcatheter closure of an unligated vertical vein with an Amplatzer Vascular Plug-II device.

: The usual surgical practice after repair of a Total Anomalous Pulmonary Venous Connection (TAPVC) is to ligate the vertical vein (VV). Many surgeons find it expedient to leave the VV unligated to reduce pulmonary arterial pressure, decrease perioperative pulmonary hypertensive crisis, provide better hemodynamics postoperatively (1), and enable the adaptation of cardiac chambers to a new workload. Afterwards, the unligated VV may cause significant left-to-right shunt, likewise an atrial septal defect, mandating later surgical ligation or device closure (2). This report details transcatheter o

Vascular occlusion as a late complication of the Angio-Seal closure device. A review of literature.

Although early vascular complications of the Angio-Seal closure device have been well described, little is known about late vascular complications due to this device. The aim of this paper is to discuss late femoral stenosis associated with the use of the Angio-Seal closure device. A literature search was performed using Medline', Embase' and The Cochrane Library' to identify relevant articles published up to the first of May 2007. Late occlusion was defined as an occlusion after approximately one week after Angio-Seal deployment. All together, eleven relevant papers were available. The report

Transcatheter closure of patent ductus arteriosus in a dog with a peripheral vascular occlusion device.

A 4-month-old, intact female mixed-breed dog presented to the Purdue University Veterinary Teaching Hospital for evaluation of a cardiac murmur. A large left-to-right patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) was diagnosed and interventional correction was achieved with a commercially available peripheral vascular occlusion device (VOD). The VOD is composed of a nitinol wire mesh and is similar in composition and shape to a commercially available human PDA occluder, however, it can be deployed through smaller delivery catheters and is much less expensive. The product and procedural details of the device

Use of a percutaneous vascular suture device for closure of an inadvertent subclavian artery puncture.

A well-known complication of central venous catheterization is inadvertent arterial sheath placement. Sheath removal from noncompressible arteries has the potential for severe complications. We report a case of inadvertent subclavian arterial sheath placement during an attempted internal jugular venous catheterization. This was successfully removed using a percutaneous vascular suture device.

Acute lower limb ischemia caused by repeat deployment of vascular closure device.

Vascular closure devices are used to facilitate faster hemostasis and earlier ambulation, improve patient comfort, and reduce length of hospital stay after percutaneous endovascular procedures. However, their use may rarely be associated with limb ischemia due to endothelial damage and arterial thrombosis. This report illustrates the case of a patient who experienced acute lower limb ischemia due to superficial femoral artery occlusion caused by repeat closure with Angio-Seal vascular closure device within 30 days in a small-caliber superficial femoral artery. The patient was surgically treate

Combination of Suture-Plug Vascular Closure Devices Versus Suture-Only Devices Following Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

BACKGROUND: Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) is an effective and safe intervention for severe symptomatic aortic stenosis regardless of surgical risk. Vascular complications following TAVI are considered among the most common and serious complications, with a higher risk of mortality. AIMS: We aimed to perform a systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate the safety and efficacy of the combination of suture-collagen plug vascular closure devices (VCDs) compared with suture-only devices. METHODS: We have systematically searched the literature from inception until January 4,

Vascular Closure Devices After Femoral Access in Adult EP Procedures: Updated Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

BACKGROUND: Femoral vascular access is integral to diagnostic and therapeutic electrophysiology (EP) procedures but is associated with bleeding and access-site complications. Manual compression and figure-of-eight sutures remain widely used for hemostasis; however, they are resource intensive and delay ambulation. Vascular closure devices (VCDs) have been introduced to facilitate rapid hemostasis and improve procedural efficiency, yet evidence specific to adult EP procedures remain conflicting. OBJECTIVES: To systematically evaluate the safety and efficacy of vascular closure devices compared
