The diagnostic significance and value of vestibular function testing combined with MRI in Meniere's disease.

OBJECTIVE: This study aims to evaluate the diagnostic efficacy of electrocochleography (EcochG), vestibular evoked myogenic potentials (VEMPs), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and their combination in diagnosing Meniere’s disease (MD) by comparing these methods against established diagnostic standards. Using MRI as a reference for assessing the degree of endolymphatic hydrops (EH), this study analyzes the correlation between EH and each diagnostic method and assesses the ability of these methods to predict EH severity. METHODS: A retrospective analysis was performed on 50 patients diagnosed

Analysis of Saccular Function With Vestibular Evoked Myogenic Potential Test in Meniere's Disease.

Meniere's disease is the disorder of inner ear characterized by vertigo, tinnitus and sensorineural hearing loss. The vestibular evoked myogenic potential (VEMP) test could be useful in the analysis of saccular function, and diagnosis of Meniere's disease. In this study, we've analyzed the saccular function, using VEMP test in different groups of Meniere's disease. Patients were categorized as possible, probable or definite Meniere's disease groups according to the guideline of American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. The exclusion criteria were neuromuscular system diseases,

Vestibular function assessment of Susac syndrome patients by the video head impulse test and cervical vestibular-evoked myogenic potentials.

BACKGROUND: Susac syndrome (retino-cochleo-cerebral vasculopathy, SuS) is an autoimmune endotheliopathy characterized by the clinical triad of encephalopathy, branch retinal artery occlusions and sensorineural hearing loss. In contrast to data regarding auditory function, data measuring vestibular function is sparse and the cervical vestibular-evoked myogenic potentials (cVEMPs). OBJECTIVE: To determine whether the video head impulse test (vHIT) can serve as a confirmatory assessment of vestibulocochlear dysfunction in cases of suspected SuS. METHODS: Seven patients diagnosed with SuS underw

Vestibular Endolymphatic Hydrops Visualized by Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Its Correlation With Vestibular Functional Test in Patients With Unilateral Meniere's Disease.

Background: Currently, 3 Tesla-MRI following intratympanic gadolinium injection has made it possible to assess the existence and the severity of hydrops in each compartment of the endolymphatic spaces in vivo. However, the relationship between vestibular endolymphatic hydrops (EH) visualized by MRI and vestibular functional tests, especially the correlation between caloric test, video-head impulse test, and semicircular canal hydrops, has not been well-investigated. Objective: The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between the severity of EH in each compartment of otolith

Relationship Between Audio-Vestibular Functional Tests and Inner Ear MRI in Meniere's Disease.

OBJECTIVES: Meniere's disease is an inner ear disorder generally attributed to an endolymphatic hydrops. Different electrophysiological tests and imaging techniques have been developed to improve endolymphatic hydrops diagnosis. The goal of our study was to compare the sensitivity and the specificity of delayed inner ear magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) after intravenous injection of gadolinium with extratympanic clicks electrocochleography (EcochG), phase shift of distortion product otoacoustic emissions (shift-DPOAEs), and cervical vestibular-evoked myogenic potentials (cVEMP) for the diagno

[Changes in vestibular function and furosemide test after experimental endolymphatic hydrops in guinea pigs].

The present study reports a successful anial model of endolymphatic hydrops (EH) in guinea pigs (n = 48) through a surgical obliteration of the endolymphatic sac and duct. Electronystagmography was calibrated by optokinetic nystagmus. During the formation of EH the vestibular functions (n = 16) were dynamically observed by ratation test. After eight weeks (n = 25) the furosemide tests with different doses were carried out by sinusoidal angular acceleration test. The results showed that the excitability of vestibular function in the operated ears was enhanced for the first week after operation,

Head impulse test reveals residual semicircular canal function after vestibular neurectomy.

Meniere disease patients sometimes report vertiginous Meniere attacks after vestibular neurectomy that spares hearing. To determine why, the authors compared postsurgical semicircular canal function in nine patients with preserved hearing with that of a control group with no preservation of hearing. The three-dimensional head impulse test revealed residual posterior canal function in all patients with vertigo attacks (eight). The control patients had no residual canal function. Thus, residual vestibular function on the ipsilesional side may cause vertiginous Meniere attacks.
