INTRODUCTION: The objective of this study was to analyse complications after surgical intervention on the vulva, especially with grafting of the vaginal epithelium, for the relief of dyspareunia in women with lichen sclerosus.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: A case series of 23 women with histologically confirmed lichen sclerosus who underwent vulvar surgery because of disabling sexual dysfunction. Surgical care was provided in a university hospital (tertiary referral center) between 2008 and 2012. The interventions were posterior vestibuloplasty (perineoplasty), dehooding of the glans clitoridis and a

OBJECTIVE: To compare the effects of three different rhinoplasty techniques on the postoperative cross-sectional areas (CSAs) of the nares and nasal vestibuli.
STUDY DESIGN: Experimental study.
SAMPLE POPULATION: Ninety-nine 3D-printed, remolded silicone models of a single French bulldog's rostral nose.
METHODS: Models were fabricated based on a computed tomographic (CT) scan of the nose of a French bulldog with moderately stenotic nares. Each model underwent either vertical wedge resection (VW), modified horizontal wedge resection (MHW), or ala-vestibuloplasty (AVP) performed by a single s

From a technical viewpoint, vestibuloplasty is the easiest method to deepen the vestibulum and is mostly preceded by gingivectomy or a flap operation. Grafting of free mucosa is the method of choice in cases of small regions of operation, prominent alveolar ridges, where open vestibuloplasty has already been performed and serious coronal shifting the scar has occurred, and where a coronal sliding of flap was planned as a second operation to cover a gingival recession. In cases of gingival recessions and areas with narrow, less than 3 mm broad gingiva propria having no obvious pathologically al

Vestibuloplasties with free gingival grafts were performed on 42 teeth in 12 patients exhibiting gingival recession. The tendency toward recurrence was studied after postoperative intervals of 1, 6 and 12 months. The extensions (vestibuloplasties), which were always wider than the transplant, recurred up to the transplantation margin. The transplant itself underwent shrinkage averaging 25 per cent. The vestibular depth, which had been increased by the operation, showed a 25 per cent reduction within 1 month, but then had a tendency to deepen again from 1 to 12 months postoperatively. The margi

A new method is described (Sailer, 1988) whereby endosseous implants are inserted in the totally atrophic maxilla, the intermaxillary relationship and vertical dimension corrected and a vestibuloplasty performed during one surgical procedure. The method can also be used to treat minor degrees of maxillary alveolar atrophy. The procedure enables 20 mm-long Titanium screws to be used in totally atrophic maxillae. The following surgical procedures are carried out during one operation: A Le Fort I osteotomy, removal of the mucous membrane of the sinus floor, obturation of the denuded maxillary sin

In 1975, a method of operation was described whereby the alveolar ridge of the mandible is osteotomied and moved on the visor principle. The two parts are fixed together with wires, thereby increasing the absolute height of the mandibular alveolar ridge. The visor-osteotomy in conjunction with vestibuloplasty and lowering of the floor of the mouth, significantly improves the denture bearing area, without the need for, and risk incurred by free bone transplantation. During the course of prosthetic treatment, one should bear in mind that there will be a temporary disturbance of sensation of the

By raising the alveolar ridge, relatively or absolutely, in partially or totally edentulous patients, preprosthetic surgery makes possible an improvement in the bed for the denture. Raising the height of the ridge, relatively, by deepening the sulci surrounding the jaw, can be achieved by vestibuloplasty and grafts to the floor of the mouth. However, for these procedures it is essential that there still be sufficient bone (at least 20 mm in the mandible). Long term observations show that the main problem is a reduction in the vestibular depth initially obtained by surgery. The most durable res

A clinical study of the use of porous blocks of hydroxylapatite (Interpore 200) for augmentation of atrophic residual mandibular ridges was performed. Fifteen patients each had three preoperatively customized blocks placed. They were then examined clinically and radiographically for at least 2 years. Six patients had skin-graft vestibuloplasties performed over the blocks 3 months after implantation; dentures were made for 11 of the patients. No clinical or radiographic evidence of migration or resorption of the blocks was found; however, all 15 patients suffered complications. Eleven developed

The paper presents short and long-term results of surgical treatment of 80 patients with insufficient attached gingiva. The procedures included vestibuloplasty and gingival plasty with perfluorane and free gingival and subepithelial connective tissue grafts. Proposed surgical treatment method with perfluorane proved to reduce the local inflammatory reaction greatly thus decreasing perioperative morbidity and increasing the long term efficacy of treatment.

A man with severe burn microstomia refractory to traditional management (Z release, skin grafting, splinting, bilateral commissuroplasty, and extensive physical therapy) is presented. Successful functional microstomia reconstruction was achieved with a three-stage approach consisting of the following: (1) lip, commissure, and cheek reconstruction with bilateral temporalis muscle transfers; (2) free flap neck and lower lip contracture release; and (3) vestibuloplasty with a stented full-thickness skin graft.

This clinical report described the esthetic reconstruction of a localized severely resorbed right anterior maxilla associated with peri-implantitis. For vertical bone augmentation, guided bone regeneration surgery was performed by raising a flap with the remote incision technique, followed by soft tissue grafting and vestibuloplasty. The biologically oriented preparation technique was used to improve the health and stability of the peri-implant tissues. The surgical treatment and a novel method of prosthetic rehabilitation provided excellent esthetic and functional outcomes.

A case of combined local surgical and prosthetic treatment in a patient with craniofacial dysostosis (Crouzon Syndrome) is described. The patient had atrophy and anterior fibrous replacement of the edentulous maxilla opposing natural mandibular anterior teeth and a lower removable partial denture. Initial prosthetic treatment alone was unsuccessful. The surgical management comprised augmentation of the maxilla with resorbable hydroxyapatite, in conjunction with a guided tissue regeneration technique and vestibuloplasty. This enabled conventional prosthetic management postoperatively to achieve

Reconstruction of the atrophic maxilla in a young adult presents unique challenges. This article describes reconstruction in a 30-year-old patient using a two-stage procedure. Bilateral maxillary sinus augmentations with simultaneous corticocancellous grafting to the anterior maxilla and alveolar ridge were performed. Eight endosseous implant fixtures were subsequently placed into the maxilla after a five-month healing phase. Six months later the implants were uncovered, healing abutments placed and a maxillary vestibuloplasty performed. The rationale behind this treatment and a review of the

The treatment of 8 adults with untreated cleft palates is retrospectively discussed. A palatorraphy, consisting of a palatoplasty with pedicled palatal mucoperiosteal flaps and an intravelar veloplasty, is performed. A rib graft between the nasal and oral layer and a partial vestibuloplasty are used in a few patients to create a more favourable anatomical situation for the prosthetic appliance. The palatorraphy contributes to improved speech intelligibility however, combined with a pharyngeal flap as performed in 5 patients, an even better result can be achieved. According to the results, a su

In this article the results are presented of the reconstruction of the alveolar process with iliac crest bone grafts in 14 patients. In all cases in a second operation a vestibuloplasty and a floor-of-mouth plasty was done. After an average follow-up period of 39 months, almost complete resorption of the bone grafts was observed. The clinical results varied. To obtain better results and avoid complications like pain at the donor and graft sites, mental nerve disturbances and other major problems associated with bone grafting, we prefer to perform the visor osteotomy in the future.

Soft tissue complications including gingival hyperplasia, peri-implantitis, inadequate vestibular depth, and insufficient attached tissue may occur adjacent to endosseous implants. In most clinical cases vestibuloplasty and grafting techniques to establish a wider zone of keratinized tissue are not needed. A clinical case is presented involving peri-implant mucosal areas exhibiting persistent inflammation and progressive recession. A free gingival palatal graft was used to correct the soft tissue defects and provide optimal peri-implant health in order to increase the long-term prognosis of th

We describe a combination of 3 surgical procedures for implant placement in the posterior maxilla with insufficient bone quantity and quality. In these situations, we have performed 3 minimally invasive, safe, and reliable surgical procedures: buccal bone graft with bone harvested from the mandibular molar region, submucous vestibuloplasty using artificial dermis, and bone-added osteotome sinus floor elevation under endoscopic control. These modified procedures can be performed in the office setting under outpatient local anesthesia and may minimize patient discomfort and reduce postoperative

Excessive soft tissue bulk, movement, chronic inflammation, and hypertrophy in periimplant areas pose challenges for long-term management of peri-implant soft tissues surrounding osteocutaneous flap reconstructions. A case history report is presented on the predictable establishment of stable peri-implant soft tissue and improved mentolabial sulcus depth in a patient treated for high-grade osteosarcoma of the mandible. Following surgical resection, reconstruction with osteocutaneous fibula free flap, and endosseous implant placement, a combined surgical and prosthetic approach was used through
