The avian bursa of Fabricius has a direct connection to the cloaca via the bursal duct. A 77-year old female is presented with volvulus of the ascending colon due to torsion around a vitelline duct remnant. Symptoms were mild and intermittent. Roentgenograms are presented which demonstrated this lesion preoperatively. At surgery the ascending colon was found to be twisted around a fibrous band extending from the umbilicus to the ileum.

The vitelline membrane (VM) of an avian egg is a multilayered protein structure that surrounds the yolk and plays important roles in bird reproduction. BACKGROUND: TARP syndrome, characterized by talipes equinovarus, atrial septal defect, Robin sequence, and persistent left superior vena cava, is an X-linked recessive condition caused by deleterious variants in RBM10. During equine early gestation, trophectoderm forms chorion tissue, which is composed of two parts that one is covering allantoin, called allantochorion (AC) and another is covering yolk sac, which here we call vitelline-chorion (VC). The superior mesenteric vein was considered to develop in situ in the midgut mesentery secondary to regression of the left vitelline vein. Two young adults had distal ileal obstruction at sites where a fold of mesentery extended from its posterior leaf to the antimesenteric border of the bowel. No Meckel's diverticulum or mesoumbilical band was present in either case. A twenty-four year old white man with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (Type IV) is presented herein. He demonstrates, or has demonstrated, spontaneous bowel perforation, club feet, cryptorchidism, spontaneous vascular rupture, prominent veins, and distal joint hypermobility. In addition, laparotomy for an acute abdominal condition at four years of age revealed a persisting and gangrenous vitelline duct cyst. We believe this is the first report of this congenital anomaly associated with this syndrome.

We present a rare case of reverse intestinal rotation with volvulus around a Meckel's diverticulum attached to a vitelline duct remnant. The diagnosis was established by CT. The patient was treated with exploratory laparotomy and small bowel resection. The patient made a full recovery and was discharged home on the seventh postoperative day.

We report 3 cases of the rare polyvesicular vitelline variant of ovarian yolk sac tumor (YST). The patients were 23, 29, and 43 years old, and all presented with large unilateral adnexal masses confined to the ovary. In trematodes, vitelline precursor proteins are required for eggshell formation. A cDNA clone of Clonorchis sinensis (CsVpB1) was selected from an EST pool, encoding a polypeptide of 245 amino acids.
