Vulvar Leiomyoma in a young woman: A case report of a rare benign soft tissue tumor from Woldia, Ethiopia.

Vulvar Leiomyoma is an extremely rare benign tumor of smooth muscle origin, accounting for a small fraction of Vulvar neoplasms. It often mimics Bartholin's cyst or other soft tissue masses, posing diagnostic challenges. We present a case of a 19-year-old unmarried woman with a Vulvar mass. Histopathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of Vulvar Leiomyoma with no evidence of malignancy. Vulvar leiomyoma's should be considered in the differential diagnosis of Vulvar masses. Accurate diagnosis requires histopathological analysis. Complete surgical excision is the treatment of choice. Thi

Epidemiology of vulvar neoplasia in the NIH-AARP Study.

OBJECTIVE: To clarify risk factors for rare vulvar neoplasms. METHODS: Within the NIH-AARP Study, among 201,469 women interviewed in 1995-1996 and followed for a mean of 13.8years, there were 370 diagnoses of incident vulvar neoplasms, including 170 invasive and 198 vulvar intraepithelial neoplasms grade 3 (VIN3). Hazard ratios (HR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were calculated via multivariate logistic regression for various demographic, reproductive and lifestyle factors, with separate consideration of relations according to invasiveness, histology and age at diagnosis. RESULTS: Consis

[Surgical treatment of vulvar cancer in 101-year old patient--a case report].

OBJECTIVES: Vulva cancer makes up 2.5-5% of all malignant neoplasms developing within the female genital organs. The average age of patients with vulvar cancer is 60 years, and most cases occur between 70-80. The great majority of cases (95%) belong to squamous cell carcinoma with endophytic or exophytic growth, for example carcinoma verrucosum. It is malignant neoplasms showing a significant histologic maturity, which however, does not cause metastases. STUDY DESIGN: This is a case report concerning a 101 year old patient with vulvar cancer treated surgically. CONCLUSIONS: In cases of vulva

Human papillomavirus is associated with the frequent detection of warty and basaloid high-grade neoplasia of the vulva and cervical neoplasia among immunocompromised women.

A total of 158 women who either HIV-infected or under iatrogenic immunosuppression were examined regularly during a 4-year period to evaluate if certain vulvar neoplasms and cervical neoplasia have similar associated risk factors. Patients with CIN were matched prospectively with immunocompetent controls with CIN. Forty-eight cervical lesions were detected among patients, including 2 invasive carcinoma and 15 CIN-3 lesions, compared to 11 vulvar lesions, including 2 invasive carcinoma and 7 VIN-3 lesions. Women who have more than five life-time partners were more likely to have HPV-DNA positiv

Inflammatory Vulvar Dermatoses (Part I).

Vulvar disease is common, and urologists are often the first providers to see patients with a vulvar skin condition. Primary vulvar dermatoses can be localized to the anogenital area or a manifestation of more diffuse cutaneous disease. Additionally, secondary dermatoses can develop from exogenous agents and inflammatory vaginitis. Vulvar conditions are challenging to diagnose due to location and different types of skin and mucosal epithelium involved. Herein, we provide an overview of noninfectious inflammatory vulvar dermatoses (part I) and benign and malignant vulvar neoplasms (part II), gr

Challenges in management of Bartholin gland leiomyoma: A case report.

Leiomyomas are uncommon vulvar neoplasms often misdiagnosed as other Bartholin gland pathology. This case report describes a case of accelerating growth of a vulvar mass, initially diagnosed as Bartholin cyst. Surgical excision led to a histopathologic diagnosis of vulvar leiomyoma. The postoperative recovery was complicated by secondary hematoma and dehiscence of the surgical site. There was no recurrence at 2 years follow-up.

Fibroadenoma of the vulva. A report of two cases.

BACKGROUND: Vulvar fibroadenoma is a rare entity. It has been proposed that the tissue of origin is either ectopic breast tissue or vulvar mammarylike glands. Sporadic examples of benign and malignant vulvar tumors arising from such glands have been previously reported. CASES: We recently encountered two cases of vulvar fibroadenoma, one in a 29-year-old woman and one in a 42-year-old woman, with both neoplasms presenting clinically as vulvar cysts. CONCLUSION: Fibroadenoma of the vulva is an uncommon lesion histologically similar to fibroadenoma of the breast. Clinicians need to be aware th

Spontaneous Massive Vulvar Edema in Pregnancy: A Case Report.

Spontaneous massive vulvar edema in pregnancy is unusual and a cause for concern. This condition should be taken seriously since it might be caused by some conditions such as preeclampsia, diabetes, vulvovaginitis, severe anemia, and neoplasms. We report a case of massive vulvar edema in a 15-year-old primigravida following tocolysis therapy at 33 weeks of gestation. Other causes of vulvar edema were excluded. The vulvar edema appeared spontaneously after tocolysis and rapidly increased in size, associated with severe vulvar pains. The vulvar edema resolved progressively with antibiotics, cort

Differentiated vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia contains Tp53 mutations and is genetically linked to vulvar squamous cell carcinoma.

Differentiated vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia is a unique precursor to vulvar squamous cell carcinoma that is typically HPV-negative and frequently associated with nuclear p53 staining. These features imply a mode of pathogenesis involving somatic mutations. However, the genetic relationship of differentiated vulvar intraepithelial neoplasm and vulvar squamous cell carcinoma and the role of Tp53 mutations in this process have not been resolved. We analyzed 11 differentiated vulvar intraepithelial neoplasms and 6 associated vulvar squamous cell carcinomas. Sections were stained for p53 and p6

Targeted Molecular Sequencing of Recurrent and Multifocal Non-HPV-associated Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Vulva.

Recurrent vulvar squamous cell carcinomas (SCCs) are a poorly understood and aggressive group of treatment-resistant neoplasms. Currently, it remains unclear whether these are in fact recurrences of the same primary tumor, or the development of entirely new tumors. Here, to address this question, we examined the mutational profile of a series of patients with recurrent or multifocal non-human papilloma virus (HPV)-associated vulvar SCC. We performed a targeted 33-gene next-generation sequencing panel on a series of 14 patients with recurrent or multifocal non-HPV-associated vulvar SCC and prec

[Photodynamic therapy in vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia].

INTRODUCTION: Vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia may lead to vulvar cancer. Vulvar cancer is a rare (accounting for about 2,5-5% of all malignant neoplasms), female genital organs cancer. Photodynamic therapy is a new treatment for a wide variety of malignancies and premalignant dysplasias. We wanted to examine the effectiveness of photodynamic therapy (PDT) on vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia (VIN). DESIGN: The aim of the study was to analyze the effectiveness of photodynamic therapy (PDT) on vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia (VIN). MATERIAL AND METHODS: We have analyzed 20 women with VIN, who

Vulvar eccrine porocarcinoma.

A rare case of a slowly growing vulvar tumor in a 75-year-old woman is presented. This vulvar neoplasm was an eccrine porocarcinoma with left inguinal nodal metastases. This is believed to be only the second reported case of a vulvar eccrine porocarcinoma. Treatment included a left hemivulvectomy, bilateral inguinal-femoral lymphadenectomy, and postoperative radiation therapy. A review of the literature regarding this unusual malignancy is included.

Vulvar neoplasia in the young.

Vulvar intraepithelial neoplasms may be occurring more frequently among younger age groups. Six patients with carcinoma in situ or severe vulvar dysplasia are reported, as well as one patient with microinvasive carcinoma, all under the age of 30 years. The vulvar lesions were noted to be mostly multicentric. They were associated with other intraepithelial neoplasias of the cervix or vagina in four of the six cases. The lesions were most often mistaken for condyloma acuminatum. Histologic changes were primarily Bowen's disease or Bowenoid dysplasia.

Traumatic vulvar hematoma masquerading as a bartholin duct cyst in a postmenopausal woman.

UNLABELLED: Vulvar hematomas, while typically occurring following vaginal delivery, are occasionally seen in the nonpregnant patient following perineal trauma. When these, as well as any vulvar mass, are discovered in a postmenopausal woman, concern regarding a neoplasm exists. CASE: A 66-year-old woman was found to have a large vulvar mass which was initially believed to be a Bartholin duct cyst. At surgery a vulvar hematoma was found and evacuated. Subsequent biopsy was negative for malignancy. CONCLUSION: Any vulvar mass discovered in a postmenopausal woman warrants meticulous evaluation

Pathobiology of vulvar squamous neoplasia.

Vulvar squamous carcinoma is an uncommon neoplasm that afflicts a spectrum of women and has been associated with granulomatous vulvar diseases, papillomaviruses, and chronic inflammatory disorders of the vulva. Histopathological, molecular, and epidemiological studies have revealed two subsets of vulvar squamous neoplasia, which are distinguished by their association with human papillomaviruses and patient demographics. This review summarizes the evidence both supporting the diverse pathogenesis of these tumors and the existence of factors that may be common to both groups. Ultimately, the pat
