Variations of work engagement and psychological distress based on three working modalities during the COVID-19 pandemic.

With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the rapid spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus became a global health threat affecting people's mental and physical health, as well as working conditions and modalities. The reorganization of the work environment also affected work engagement and psychological distress levels. This manuscript assesses how work engagement and distress vary according to gender and age across three working modalities. We used a voluntary response sampling strategy to collect data on psychological distress and work engagement between August 2021 and January 2022. Results are from

Supportive Resources, Work Engagement, and Contextual Performance Among Nurses: A Cross-Sectional Mediation Study.

Background: Nurses' contextual performance, defined as voluntary, extra-role behaviors that support colleagues, teams, and the organization, is critical to patient safety and care quality. Although individual, work, and interpersonal resources have each been linked to nurse outcomes, the pathways through which these resources are associated with contextual performance remain insufficiently examined in the nursing workforce. This study examined the relationships between individual, work, and interpersonal resources; work engagement; and contextual performance among nurses. Methods: A cross-sect

Satisfied employees, stronger teams: linking need satisfaction to team-boosting behaviours via work engagement.

PURPOSE: Modern work teams are increasingly diverse, dynamic, and dispersed. For organisations to thrive in this context, they must prioritise team functioning. Individual team members play a central role in shaping team climate, dynamics, and performance. This study investigates relationships between basic psychological need satisfaction (BPNS), work engagement, and team-boosting behaviours (TBB). Drawing on self-determination theory, it examines whether employees' need satisfaction relates to discretionary behaviours that enhance team climate through work engagement, linking individual motiv

Transformational school leadership and teacher work engagement: PsyCap and perceived organizational support in China.

This cross-sectional, quantitative study examines how transformational school leadership relates to teacher work engagement in China and specifies when these effects are most potent. Anchored in Conservation of Resources, Social Exchange, and Job Demands-Resources frameworks, we advance a novel moderated mediation model in which psychological capital functions as the motivational mechanism linking leadership to engagement, and perceived organizational support amplifies both the direct and indirect pathways. Data from K-12 teachers across five major Chinese cities were collected via validated i

Work engagement among polish nurses: the mediating effects of personal resources and job crafting.

BACKGROUND: The global shortage of nurses and their decrease in workplace-related wellbeing is a major public health challenge. It was intensified by the COVID-19 pandemic and is further driven by high job demands, lacking resources and reduced work engagement. Understanding organizational and individual factors that support nurses' engagement is therefore crucial. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to examine how job resources - perceived organizational support and community support at work-relate to work engagement among nurses, and whether particular personal resources (self-efficacy and ego-resil

Feasibility and Preliminary Outcomes of Hypnosis to Enhance Meaningful Work Among Employees with Low Work Engagement: A Pilot Randomized Controlled Trial.

Structural and psychological pressures in higher education can undermine employee's engagement, particularly when work is perceived as lacking meaningfulness. Low levels of meaningful work are a key marker of disengagement and may harm well-being. This study investigated the preliminary effectiveness of Hypnotic Guided Imagery (HGI) in enhancing meaningful work among non-academic staff with low engagement. A randomized controlled trial (RCT) was conducted with 31 participants randomly assigned to an intervention group (n = 16) or a control group (n = 15). The intervention group received two HG

Does Authentic Leadership Foster Work Engagement? A Post-Pandemic Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

BACKGROUND: Work engagement has emerged as a critical psychological resource for organizational resilience in the post-pandemic era. Authentic leadership is theoretically positioned as a key antecedent of engagement, yet empirical findings regarding the strength and consistency of this relationship remain fragmented, particularly across emerging economies. This study synthesizes post-pandemic evidence on the authentic leadership and work engagement relationship, integrating Social Exchange Theory and the Job Demands-Resources model as complementary interpretive frameworks. METHODS: Following

Occupational differences in work engagement: A longitudinal study among eight occupational groups in Norway.

The aim of the present study was to explore occupational differences in the experience of engagement both with regard to differences in the level of work engagement as well as in the predicting value of different antecedent variables. Multigroup latent mean analysis was performed on eight different occupational groups in Norway (lawyers, physicians, nurses, teachers, church ministers, bus drivers, and people working in advertising and information technology; N = 3,475). Tests for factorial invariance supported the use of the Oldenburg Burnout Inventory scale across occupational groups and that

[Working conditions and health status of workers engaged in the production of zinc compounds].

It was established that industrial shops engaged in zinc compounds' processing were characterized by considerable temperature shifts, relative humidity and air motion changes. In drying and packing shops, concentrations of the final product dusts were established at 0.8-2 mg/m3. The major occupational pathology was constituted by skin and upper respiratory tract diseases, including allergic and contact dermatitis, chronic pharyngitis, tonsillitis and rhinitis. Blood tests revealed B-lymphocytes: increases, circulating immune complexes and considerable levels of lymphocytic spontaneous blastotr

Autonomous dysregulation of orthostatic disorders in young individuals engaged into manual work.

The authors analyzed changes of statistic, spectral and non-linear parameters of cardiac rhythm variability in response to active orthostasis test in young individuals engaged into manual work, and the results are compared with hemodynamic parameters. Evidence is that the patients with neurogenous fainting present sympathetic vasomotory regulation disorders even in young age; before clinical manifestation as orthostatic hypotension. In comparison with common tilt-test, spectral analysis of cardiac rhythm variability in active orthostatic test can be more useful to reveal early disorders of aut

A longitudinal study of the relationship between work engagement and symptoms of anxiety and depression.

This longitudinal study examined the dynamic relationship between work engagement (vigour and dedication) and symptoms of anxiety and depression. A sample of 3475 respondents from eight different occupational groups (lawyers, physicians, nurses, teachers, church ministers, bus drivers, people working in advertising and people working in information technology) in Norway supplied data at two points in time with a 2-year time interval. The advantages of longitudinal design were utilized, including testing of reversed causation and controlling for unmeasured third variables. In general, the resul

Optimizing work performance and engagement in adults with hearing loss: the role of hearing devices.

Hearing loss is a common but under-recognized condition among older adults, linked to fatigue, reduced productivity, social isolation, and early workforce exit. As developed countries face aging workforces, there is a critical need to understand how hearing device usage influences occupational outcomes. This study analyzed cross-sectional data from the Hearing Impairment in Adults: A Longitudinal Outcomes Study, involving 227 Australian adults aged 40 + using hearing aids, cochlear implants, or both (bimodal). We examined whether work functioning and performance differed between the three hear

Factors Associated with Providers' Work Engagement and Burnout in Homeless Services: A Cross-national Study.

The complexity of homeless service users' characteristics and the contextual challenges faced by services can make the experience of working with people in homelessness stressful and can put providers' well-being at risk. In the current study, we investigated the association between service characteristics (i.e., the availability of training and supervision and the capability-fostering approach) and social service providers' work engagement and burnout. The study involved 497 social service providers working in homeless services in eight different European countries (62% women; mean age = 40.7
