Job embeddedness among young shift-working nurses at a newly established hospital in South Korea: Associations with emotional intelligence, emotional leadership, and work-life balance.

Exploring Pathways to Fathers' Well-Being: The Mediating Role of Work-Life Balance in Perceived Stress, Marital Satisfaction, and Parenting Self-Efficacy.

This study explored the role of perceived parental self-efficacy, perceived coping, perceived distress, and marital satisfaction in fathers' well-being. Furthermore, we explored whether work-life balance mediates the relationship between these variables. A total of 770 married fathers (86% with two or more children) from Türkiye, aged between 19 and 60 years, participated in this study. This study utilized partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) to explore fathers' well-being. The first step was to examine the relationships between the exogenous variables and work-life bal

Latent class patterns of work-life balance changes among Korean SME workers during COVID-19 based on organizational support and psychosocial health.

The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted work-life balance (WLB), particularly among workers in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). This study aimed to classify patterns of WLB changes and identify associated factors using the Job Demands-Resources model as a theoretical framework. A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 503 SME employees in South Korea between July and September 2020. Latent class analysis identified WLB change patterns, and multinomial logistic regression compared factors across classes. Three latent classes were identified: stable (Class 1, 81.0%), worsened (Class 2, 11.

Beyond the digital panopticon: a mixed-methods examination of teacher burnout, psychological capital, and well-being through the lens of work-life balance.

INTRODUCTION: In the contemporary Chinese educational landscape, characterized by involution (neijuan) and increasing digital encroachment, the maintenance of educator well-being has become a critical challenge. This study investigated how teacher burnout and psychological capital (PsyCap) predict psychological well-being (PWB), with a specific focus on the mediating role of work-life balance (WLB). METHODS: An explanatory sequential mixed-methods design was employed. In the quantitative phase, survey data were collected from 842 primary and secondary school teachers across three Chinese prov

OBJECTIVES: High rates of healthcare worker (HCW) burn-out have led many to label it an 'epidemic' urgently requiring interventions. This prospective pilot study examined the efficacy, feasibility and evaluation of the 'Three Good Things' (3GT) intervention for HCWs, and added burn-out and work-life balance to the set of well-being metrics. METHODS: 228 HCWs participated in a prospective, repeated measures study of a web-based 15-day long 3GT intervention. Assessments were collected at baseline and 1, 6 and 12-month post-intervention. The primary measure of efficacy was a derivative of the em

Work-family conflict and mental health: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Work-family conflict, defined as a type of inter-role conflict where demands from work and family roles are incompatible, is a global public health concern. Cross-sectional studies consistently demonstrate associations between work-family conflict and adverse mental health outcomes. However, longitudinal evidence remains mixed, highlighting the need for a comprehensive synthesis of available data to better understand its long-term impacts. METHODS AND FINDINGS: We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis of longitudinal studies of associations between work-family conflict a

Examination of the double burden hypothesis-a systematic review of work-family conflict and sickness absence.

Women consistently have higher sickness absence than men. The double-burden hypothesis suggests this is due to higher work-family burden in women than men. The current study aimed to systematically review prospective studies of work-family conflict and subsequent sickness absence. A systematic search was conducted in the electronic databases Medline, PsycINFO, and Embase with subject heading terms and keywords with no language or time restrictions. Two reviewers independently screened abstracts and read full-texts with pre-defined inclusion and exclusion criteria. Eight included studies ( n =

When breastfeeding meets work: Impact of daily action regulation at the breastfeeding-work interface among breastfeeding working mothers.

Work and breastfeeding responsibilities can often interfere with each other for breastfeeding working mothers who pump breast milk at work. While prior research has explored how contextual social support and organizational policies help these mothers manage work-breastfeeding challenges, the active self-initiated strategies breastfeeding working mothers can use to navigate these roles have been largely overlooked. This study addresses a critical gap in how breastfeeding working mothers can proactively regulate their actions to achieve desirable outcomes. From an action regulation perspective,

METHODS: Recruitment was undertaken in two contexts and focussed on people living with type 2 diabetes of working age (18-67). A further inclusion criterion for participants was that they were registered as having at least one diabetes-related complication. Qualitative data was gathered via semi-struc

Does love in the ivory tower fix the leaky pipeline? How academia's homogamous relationships shape careers.

The persistent "leaky pipeline", i.e., women remaining underrepresented in advanced academic roles, often links to the adverse impact of parenthood on women's careers compared to men's. This study delves into how the struggle to balance academic success and family life might be pushing female scientists out of academia, and how the less-studied concept of homogamy-here, the forming of heterosexual relationships between individuals with the same profession-influences academic careers. Drawing on data from the 2021 "Academic career, partnership, and family" survey by swissuniversities, this rese

Work addiction and social functioning: A systematic review and five meta-analyses.

As theoretical models suggest, work addiction has several adverse correlates and consequences, such as unfavorable personality traits, physical and psychological symptoms, and social conflicts. Both early and recent concepts emphasize that individuals with work addiction have more problematic social life due to obsessive overwork. This includes negative impacts on family, workplace, and other relationships. The present study aimed to systematically review and meta-analyze all the empirical studies that examined the association between work addiction and any dimension of social life, as such an

Illegitimate tasks and work role performance among engineering consulting professionals: integrating work-family boundary and cognitive-affective personality system theories.

INTRODUCTION: Professionals are often required to perform tasks they regard as unnecessary or inconsistent with their legitimate responsibilities. Although research has linked such illegitimate tasks to adverse work outcomes, less is known about how they are associated with employees' appraisal of the work-nonwork interface, motivational investment, and work role performance, or how leadership conditions this process. Drawing primarily on cognitive-affective personality system (CAPS) theory, we propose that illegitimate tasks operate as situational stimuli that activate employees' work-life ba
