An investigation into competence in TCM of BSN graduates from technological universities in Taiwan.

The purpose of this study was to determine what competences in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) should be possessed by Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) graduates from technological universities in Taiwan. There were two phases in this study: focus groups and expert panel discussion. First, we held four focus groups, and interviewed 31 participants, including consumers, nursing staff and clinical nursing faculty. The interview tapes were transcribed verbatim, were proofed for accuracy and the content was analyzed. The results were then discussed by four academic experts in a panel discuss

Developing a Preliminarily Validated Competency-Based Integrative Oncology Training Questionnaire.

CONTEXT: Implementing clinical integrative oncology (IO) guidelines requires training healthcare providers (HCPs). OBJECTIVES: We developed and preliminarily validated a questionnaire assessing baseline core clinical IO competencies (CCC-IO) among HCP trainees. METHODS: The CCC-IO questionnaire was developed by an international multidisciplinary team and examined for reliability and validity in a cross-sectional study, nested within a randomized controlled trial of a national competency-based medical education (CBME) IO training program. Pretraining questionnaires, administered at baseline f

Physical therapy approach and non-invasive modalities in treatment of vaginal laxity: a literature review.

INTRODUCTION: Pelvic floor physical therapy (PFPT) and noninvasive modalities can be more safe and available treatments for vaginal laxity (VL) with less risk of postsurgical complications. OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this review is to define the concepts of PFPT and noninvasive modalities, examine the evidence supporting those modalities as a treatment for VL, and evaluate their effectiveness. METHODS: Between 2002 and 2023, clinical studies including women diagnosed with VL were examined in the Web of Science, Cochrane Library, Scopus, and PubMed databases. Exclusion criteria included studi

Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine for Nausea and Vomiting in Pregnancy: An Overview and Quality Assessment of Systematic Reviews.

BACKGROUND: Up to 85% of pregnant women experience nausea and vomiting in pregnancy (NVP), which can impact both the pregnant woman and developing fetus. Traditional East Asian Medicine (TEAM) including acupuncture and herbal medicine has been used to treat NVP; however, its effectiveness remains under debate. This study aimed to systematically review the existing evidence from systematic reviews on the effectiveness of TEAM for NVP and to critically evaluate the quality of these reviews. METHODS: Nine databases were searched from their inception until January 2024. Search terms included, "Hy

Gag reflex management in dental practice: a bibliometric analysis from 2000 to 2025.

BACKGROUND: The gag reflex is a common challenge in dental practice, often causing discomfort and leading to treatment avoidance, especially during procedures like taking dental impressions. Although both pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments are utilized to manage the gag reflex, current evidence supporting the routine use of these interventions is limited, highlighting the need for further research. To optimize gag reflex management and identify future research trends through a bibliometric analysis. METHODS: Data from eligible studies were extracted through a comprehensive sea

Nursing Support for Nausea and Vomiting in Patients With Cancer: A Scoping Review.

Nausea and vomiting are symptoms commonly experienced by patients with advanced cancer and have a wide range of causes, including pharmacological interventions. Additionally, multiple factors often simultaneously cause nausea and vomiting. These highly distressing symptoms may be directly or indirectly related to the disease and can significantly impact both the physical and psychological well-being of patients. This study aims to identify the nursing support provided to reduce nausea and vomiting experienced by patients with cancer. This study followed the Preferred Reporting Items for System

Using the Trauma Reintegration Process to Treat Posttraumatic Stress Disorder with Dissociation and Somatic Features: A Case Series.

Given the suboptimal responses to medication and cognitive behavioral therapies in the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), new approaches are needed. Background/Objectives: Therapies that include a somatic component such as Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) have demonstrated efficacy in the treatment of PTSD in numerous clinical trials. This case series introduces the Trauma Reintegration Process (TRP), a psychotherapeutic process developed by the author that can be combined with somatic therapies to enhance their effect

The Role of Rehabilitation in the Treatment of Constipation in Oncological Patients.

BACKGROUND: Chemotherapy, as well as opioid and antiemetic drugs, can contribute to constipation in oncological patients. This systematic review aims to analyse the potential of specific rehabilitation strategies and alternative strategies for improving constipation symptoms, with the goal of incorporating these strategies into a dedicated protocol for managing cancer-related constipation. This could potentially reduce the dosages of or eliminate the need for constipation medications. METHODS: A systematic search was conducted on PubMed, Scopus and Web of Science. The review included studies

The Prevention and Treatment of Nausea and Vomiting During Tumor Therapy.

BACKGROUND: Nausea and vomiting are common and distressing side effects of tumor therapy. Despite prophylaxis, 40-50% of patients suffer from nausea, and 20-30% from vomiting. Antiemetic prophylaxis and treatment are therefore of great importance for improving patients' quality of life and preventing sequelae such as tumor cachexia. METHODS: The recommendations presented here are based on international and national guidelines, updated with publications retrieved by a selective search in the PubMed and Cochrane Library databases, with special attention to randomized controlled trials and meta-

Mind-Body Therapies From Traditional Chinese Medicine: Evidence Map.

Background: The mind-body therapies of traditional Chinese medicine include several intervention types and combine physical poses with conscious relaxation and breathing techniques. The purpose of this Evidence Map is to describe these different interventions and report related health outcomes. Methods: This evidence map is based on the 3iE Evidence Gap Map methodology. Treatments for hyperemesis gravidarum: A systematic review.

INTRODUCTION: Hyperemesis gravidarum affects 0.3%-3% of pregnant women each year and is the leading cause of hospitalization in early pregnancy. Previous systematic reviews of available treatments have found a lack of consistent evidence, and few studies of high quality. Since 2016, no systematic review has been conducted and an up-to date review is requested. In a recent James Lind Alliance collaboration, it was clear that research on effective treatments is a high priority for both patients and clinicians. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Searches without time limits were performed in the AMED, CINAHL

[Bilateral cerebellar infarction caused by intracranial dissection of the vertebral artery after long periods of "Shiatsu"].

For five years, a 56-year-old woman had undergone "Shiatsu" (a technique that uses fingers and the palm of the hand to apply pressure to particular sections of the body's surface to correct neck stiffness and body imbalances in order to maintain and promote health). She suddenly developed neck pain, dizziness, dysphagia, and speech and gait disturbances during treatment. A neurological examination detected bradylalia and truncal and mild bilateral limb ataxia of the cerebellar type. Diffusion-weighted brain MRI showed multiple hyperintense signal lesions at the bilateral cerebellar hemisphere

Predictor variables for identifying patients with chronic tension-type headache who are likely to achieve short-term success with muscle trigger point therapy.

To date, no studies have investigated the predictive validity of variables from the initial examination to identify patients with tension-type headache pain who are likely to benefit from muscle trigger point (TrP) therapy. The purpose of this study was to develop a preliminary clinical prediction rule (CPR) to identify chronic tension-type headache (CTTH) patients who are likely to experience a successful response from TrP therapy. Consecutive patients with CTTH underwent a standardized examination and then received six sessions of TrP therapy over 3 weeks (two sessions per week). They were c
