Epidemiology of Patients With Dance-Related Injuries Presenting to Medical Staff at Breaking Competitions in the United States, 2021-2023.

Introduction: There is a dearth of dance-related injury epidemiology within the breaking competition setting. Breaking injury surveillance data has predominantly been collected retrospectively at healthcare facilities or through survey research. Methods: Medical staff were available at 6 breaking competitions between 2021 and 2023 to provide musculoskeletal care and triage. In addition to consent of treatment, participants provided their age, gender, and injured body area(s), symptom onset, and description. A total of 157 patient reports were obtained, de-identified, and utilized for comparati

The Molecular Effects of Dietary Acid Load on Metabolic Disease (The Cellular PasaDoble: The Fast-Paced Dance of pH Regulation).

Metabolic diseases are becoming more common and more severe in populations adhering to western lifestyle. Since metabolic conditions are highly diet and lifestyle dependent, it is suggested that certain diets are the cause for a wide range of metabolic dysfunctions. Oxidative stress, excess calcium excretion, inflammation, and metabolic acidosis are common features in the origins of most metabolic disease. These primary manifestations of "metabolic syndrome" can lead to insulin resistance, diabetes, obesity, and hypertension. Further complications of the conditions involve kidney disease, card

Halogen-Dance-Based Synthesis of Phosphonomethoxyethyl (PME) Substituted 2-Aminothiazoles as Potent Inhibitors of Bacterial Adenylate Cyclases.

A series of acyclic nucleoside phosphonates (ANPs) was designed as inhibitors of bacterial adenylate cyclases (ACs), where adenine was replaced with 2-amino-4-arylthiazoles. The target compounds were prepared using the halogen dance reaction. Final AC inhibitors were evaluated in cell-based assays (prodrugs) and cell-free assays (phosphono diphosphates). Novel ANPs were potent inhibitors of adenylate cyclase toxin (ACT) from Bordetella pertussis and edema factor (EF) from Bacillus anthracis, with substantial selectivity over mammalian enzymes AC1, AC2, and AC5. Six of the new ANPs were more po

Trends in drug use among electronic dance music party attendees in New York City, 2016-2019.

OBJECTIVE: Electronic dance music (EDM) party attendees are a high-risk population for drug use and associated adverse effects. We examined trends in past-year drug use within this population to better inform prevention and harm reduction efforts. METHODS: Each summer from 2016 through 2019, we used time-space sampling to survey a cross-section of adults entering EDM parties at randomly selected nightclubs and at dance festivals in New York City. Ns ranged from 504 (2019) to 1,087 (2016). We estimated log-linear trends in past-year use of 16 different synthetic drugs or drug classes. RESULTS

Drug use among gay and bisexual men at weekend dance parties: the role of intentions and perceptions of peers' behaviors.

Substance use is high among gay and bisexual men attending weekend dance events, yet little research has investigated motivations for drug use and contextual factors influencing use in these settings. We hypothesized that beliefs about peer drug use interact with individuals' own drug use intentions to predict use. 489 men attending weekend dance events completed an anonymous assessment asking about their own and their beliefs about other attendants' drug use intentions--47 % completed a follow-up assessment after the event. Forty-four percent reported intending to use ecstasy at the event; in

"What Makes a Healthy Dancer? Environmental, Cultural, and Individual Factors Identified Across Stakeholders of Non-Professional Dance".

INTRODUCTION: Dance is a popular physical activity in Australia, but participation drops in later adolescence, and injuries, eating disorders, poor sleeping habits, and mental health issues exist. Health literacy is important for improving health, and the beliefs of stakeholders can guide health interventions. METHODS: This cross-sectional study surveyed Australian non-professional dancers 18 years and over (n = 84); parents/guardians of dancers under 18 (n = 31), and; dance teachers (n = 27), and aimed to investigate qualitatively: (1) beliefs of what makes a healthy dancer; and quantitative

Feasibility and acceptability of a mixed methods within-subjects comparative design in dance movement therapy for adults with personality disorders.

BACKGROUND: Dance Movement Therapy (DMT) is an established treatment for adults diagnosed with personality disorders (PD). A central component of DMT is the creation of improvised dance material, which supports emotional expression and may enhance autonomy, self-efficacy, and well-being. However, structured dance-based micro-interventions derived from this practice have not yet been systematically described or evaluated. This study was the first attempt to examine the feasibility of implementing a within-subjects comparative study protocol and the acceptability of a structured dance-based micr

NeuroDance: study protocol for a non-randomized multicenter study of a mixed-style dance intervention for people with Parkinson's disease.

UNLABELLED: Parkinson's disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder associated with substantial motor and non-motor impairments that significantly reduce functional independence and quality of life. While pharmacological treatments remain essential, they often fail to adequately address complex symptoms such as balance deficits, cognitive dysfunction, and reduced wellbeing. Multimodal, non-pharmacological interventions are therefore increasingly recognized as important complementary approaches. This study protocol introduces NeuroDance, a novel, structured dance-based intervention desi

Effects of Dance Interventions on Physical Function in Healthy Older Adults: A Systematic Review and 3-Level Meta-Analysis.

BACKGROUND: As global population aging accelerates, maintaining physical function in older adults has emerged as a core public health challenge. Dance, a multimodal physical activity integrating cognitive challenges and social interaction, has been proven effective in improving health in older age. However, existing evidence is largely confined to validating efficacy, often plagued by selective outcome reporting, and lacks evidence-based consensus regarding optimal intervention protocols. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to (1) systematically evaluate the effects of dance interventions on physical

Enhancing respiratory function in menopausal women through an online Thai dance aerobic program: A randomized controlled trial.

The researchers aimed to assess the effects of a Thai dance training program on respiratory function in menopausal women. Twenty-two menopausal women aged 45-59 were randomly assigned to two groups: a control group (CON; n = 10) and an Aerobic Thai dance group (ATD; n = 12). The CON group maintained their usual daily activities, while the ATD group underwent supervised online aerobic Thai dance sessions three times a week for ten weeks at home. Pulmonary function, respiratory muscle strength, and aerobic capacity were assessed pre- and post-intervention. The ATD group showed a significant decr
