This study compares the ability of selected materials to inhibit adhesion of two bacterial strains commonly implicated in implant-related infections. The case of a 57-year-old gentleman with a left-sided vocal cord palsy following a surgical procedure done elsewhere is being reported. His main problem was dysphonia, and speech therapy did not improve his voice much. A thyroplasty type 1 was done to improve his voice. BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: The canine intestinal and venous access port (IVAP) model is valuable for investigating hepatic elimination and region-specific intestinal absorption of pharmaceuticals. Previously, long-term functionality of this preparation has been variable.
METHODS: Catheters of different construction were placed in the proximal and distal portions of the small intestine, colon, and portal vein of subject animals and were attached to separate subcutaneous access ports. Intraoperative, postoperative, and long-term maintenance techniques were developed, modified, and analyzed.

OBJECTIVE: To assess the clinical value of silicone micro-implants (Macroplastique, Uroplastique, Bioplastique) in the treatment of intractable genuine stress incontinence.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Between January 1992 and March 1995, 34 patients with failed previous surgery for genuine stress incontinence were treated with transurethral submucosal injection of Macroplastique.
RESULTS: The initial success rate was high, 90% at 1 month and 75% at 3 months postoperatively. However, at 2 years of follow-up the success rate fell to 48%. Patient satisfaction was high.

A description is given of the indication and technical steps for fabricating a unilateral nasal stent to maintain patency of the nasal passage after surgical opening of an obstruction in a pediatric case. The methodology uses a two-step impression of the contralateral unobstructed naris and exterior valve region to generate a two-piece injection mold. The mold is used to fabricate a soft silicone-based anatomical stent. It supports an intranasal skin graft that was placed to reduce the risk of granulation.
