The etiology of cheilitis is often not readily apparent. We present a case series of four patients with allergic contact cheilitis (ACC) secondary to exposure to peppermint oil contained in a lip balm product. These patients developed eczematous dermatitis involving their lips and perioral skin. They were tested with the North American Contact Dermatitis Group standard series as well as with an expanded series of flavoring agents, sunscreens, plant and fragrance components, and their own products. The lip balm contained potential sensitizers such as propolis, lanolin, coconut oil, almond oil,

Carvone is a naturally occurring monoterpene and the principal volatile constituent of spearmint (Mentha spicata) and caraway (Carum carvi), plants long used as carminative, digestive, antimicrobial, and flavoring agents. The compound exists as two enantiomers-S-(+)-carvone (predominantly associated with caraway) and R-(-)-carvone (predominantly associated with spearmint)-widely used in food, fragrance, and herbal preparations. Although carvone is a naturally occurring compound, the material used in experimental studies may be synthetically produced, isolated from plant essential oils, or used

Conventional methods for nanoparticle (NP) synthesis often rely on unsafe chemical reduction processes. Plant-mediated green synthesis of NPs has emerged as a promising alternative to such toxic reductants. Seed priming is an effective technique for improving seed germination and plant growth characteristics. Nano-priming outperforms traditional seed priming methods owing to the nanoparticles' nanoscale dimensions and unique physicochemical properties. In this study, the extract of Mentha pulegium L. plant was used for Fe2O3-NPs synthesis. Afterward, the seeds of four basil (Ocimum basilicum L

Aromatic plants of the Lamiaceae family are widely recognized as major natural sources of volatile oils (VOs), with broad applications in pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and food systems. In contrast, hydrosols (HYDs)-the aqueous co-products of hydrodistillation-have received comparatively less attention, despite growing industrial relevance and the potential to provide distinct, water-compatible aromatic signatures. In the present work, the volatile signatures of VOs and taxon-matched HYDs from seven Lamiaceae species (Lavandula × intermedia, Melissa officinalis, Mentha × piperita, Origanum onites,

Natural products are widely promoted to increase or suppress androgen activity, but the strength and clinical relevance of the evidence vary markedly by preparation, population, endpoint, and study design. We conducted a structured critical review of human and mechanistic studies of androgen-modulating botanicals, with separate appraisal of in silico predictions, biochemical or cellular target effects, hormonal biomarkers, clinical outcomes, extract characteristics, and safety. Standardized extracts of Withania somnifera, Trigonella foenum-graecum, and Eurycoma longifolia have limited-to-moder

BACKGROUND: Disruptions in the gut microbiota metabolism may contribute to the pathophysiology of gut-brain interaction disorders, and correction of intestinal dysbiosis is considered a promising therapeutic approach. Menthacarin, a proprietary fixed combination of Mentha x piperita L. and Carum carvi L. essential oils, is used clinically for the treatment of functional dyspepsia and irritable bowel syndrome. Rodent model data indicate that treatment effects of Menthacarin on visceral hypersensitivity could be mediated via the normalization of gut dysbiosis. However, the impact of Menthacarin
