Ankle injuries are a huge medical and socioeconomic problem. Many people have a traumatic injury of the ankle, most of which are a result of sports. Total costs of treatment and work absenteeism due to ankle injuries are high. The prevention of recurrences can result in large savings on medical costs. A multidisciplinary clinical practice guideline was developed with the aim to prevent further health impairment of patients with acute lateral ankle ligament injuries by giving recommendations with respect to improved diagnostic and therapeutic opportunities. The recommendations are based on evid

Chronic exertional compartment syndrome (CECS) is an underdiagnosed condition that causes lower and upper extremity pain in certain at-risk populations. Lower-extremity CECS is most often observed in running athletes and marching military members. Upper-extremity CECS is most commonly seen in rowers and professional motorcyclists. Although early outcome research on CECS has been based mostly on adult male patients, there has been an increase in the number of studies in pediatric and adolescent patient populations, particularly in females. Evaluation of CECS must include a thorough history and

The importance of incorporating lumbo-pelvic stability core and controlling motor exercises in patients with chronic low back pain (CLBP) reinforces the use of strategies to improve biopsychosocial beliefs by reducing biomedical postulations. However, clinical practice guidelines recommend multimodal approaches incorporating exercise and manual therapy (MT), and instead reject the application of kinesiotape (KT) in isolation. Therefore, the objectives of this study were to analyze the effects of 12 weeks of exercises combined with MT or KT on perceived low back pain using the visual analog sca

CONTEXT: Most protocols established to treat patients with functional ankle instability (FAI) have focused on taping the ankle. Orthotic intervention is a different treatment protocol that may have a positive effect on these patients, especially after an accommodation period.
OBJECTIVE: To determine whether the use of a prefabricated orthotic affects postural stability in patients with FAI and a control group.
DESIGN: Randomized controlled clinical trial.
SETTING: Research laboratory.
PATIENTS OR OTHER PARTICIPANTS: Forty patients with unilateral FAI.
INTERVENTION(S): Postural stability w

BACKGROUND: Shoulder-hand syndrome (SHS) is a common upper limb complication following stroke. It is associated with poor functional recovery of the upper limb and reduced mobility. Both kinesiology tape (KT) and manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) are considered effective interventions for treating pain and swelling associated with SHS. However, there is currently no research examining the limitations and safety profile of combining K-tape with MLD for SHS management. This study aims to investigate the efficacy of KT combined with MLD in patients with post-stroke shoulder-hand syndrome.

The ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) of the thumb is situated on the inner side of the thumb, near the ulnar aspect of the metacarpophalangeal joint. It plays a crucial role in stabilizing the base of the thumb and contributes to grip strength and overall hand function. UCL injuries account for approximately 86% of all injuries affecting the base of the thumb. Treatment for UCL injuries varies depending on severity. When the UCL of the thumb is completely torn, surgical intervention becomes necessary. Significant gaps in the literature still exist despite the growing number of publications on t

Complementary and alternative medicines (CAMs) are widely applied and accepted for therapeutic purposes because of their numerous benefits. Negative ion treatment belongs to one of the critical categories defined by the National Center for CAM, with such treatment capable of air purification and ameliorating emotional disorders (e.g., depression and seasonal affective disorder). Negative ions can be produced naturally and also by a material with activated energy. Exercise-induced muscle damage (EIMD) often occurs due to inadequate warm up, high-intensity exercise, overload, and inappropriate p

BACKGROUND: Evidence for the add-on effect of kinesiotape (KT) with acupuncture for treating ankle sprains remains insufficient. We assessed the add-on effect of KT on ankle sprains by comparing acupuncture combined with KT (AcuKT) with acupuncture alone in patients with acute lateral ankle sprain (ALAS).
METHODS: This study was a multicenter, randomized controlled clinical trial that included a per-protocol analysis of the add-on effect of KT on ALAS. The randomization was software based and only the assessors were blinded. Sixty participants (20 each from three centers) with grade I or II A

Surgical treatment of zygomatico-orbital (ZO) fractures is a common procedure in maxillofacial surgery. Often accompanied by pain, trismus and swelling, postoperative morbidity is a major disadvantage, affecting patients' quality of life. The appliance of kinesiologic tape (KT) improves the blood and lymph flow, removing congestions of lymphatic fluid and haemorrhages. The aim of this study was to find out if the application of kinesiologic tape prevents or improves swelling, pain and trismus after zygomatico-orbital fracture surgery, improving patients' postoperative quality of life. INTRODUCTION: Treatment of base fractures in the proximal phalanx depends on the fracture type, the degree of displacement and whether fracture reduction is stable or not. Internal fixation often leads to decreased mobility of the injured finger despite exact reduction of the fracture. Our treatment is focused upon function and to a lesser extent on exact reposition of the fractured fifth digit. Buddy taping was used after initial, closed reduction of the fracture allowing for immediate mobilisation.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: This was a prospective follow-up study of 53 consecutive conservatively

BACKGROUND: Medial patellofemoral ligament reconstruction (MPFLR) is widely used for treating recurrent lateral patellar instability, with advancements such as artificial tapes and anchor fixation aiming to improve biomechanical stability and recovery outcomes compared with traditional autograft techniques. However, limited research exists on the outcomes of simultaneous bilateral MPFLR.
HYPOTHESIS: The time to return to sports (RTS) is longer for bilateral MPFLR than for unilateral MPFLR.
STUDY DESIGN: Cohort study; Level of evidence, 3.
METHODS: Patients were divided into bilateral and un
