Background: Cervical restorations remain clinically challenging due to complex anatomy, limited enamel availability, and difficulties in achieving reliable adhesion at dentin or cementum margins. Polymerization shrinkage and marginal leakage are frequent causes of failure. Although the Closing Gap Technique has been proposed to improve marginal adaptation in cervical restorations, evidence supporting its medium- to long-term clinical performance is limited. The aim of this case report was to evaluate the clinical effectiveness of the Closing Gap Technique in the restoration of carious and non-

Light-curing resin composites (RCs) are widely used for tooth defect restoration. However, challenges such as high polymerization shrinkage and lack of anti-cariogenic activities compromise interfacial integrity and significantly increase restoration failure risks. To address these limitations, we developed a bioactive multifunctional bulk-fill RC by integrating sol-gel-synthesized monodisperse nano-MgO (nMgO), Stöber-derived monodisperse submicron spherical silica (sSiO2), and dendritic epoxy-cyclohexyl functionalized polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (E-POSS). RCs achieved a larger depth

Dental caries is a dynamic disease induced by the unbalance between demineralization of dental hard tissues caused by biofilm and remineralization of them; however, although various effective remineralization methods have been well documented, it is a challenge to reestablish the balance by enhancing remineralization alone while ignoring the antibacterial therapy. Therefore, the integration of remineralizing and antibacterial technologies offers a promising strategy to halt natural caries progression in clinical practice. Here, the conception of interrupting dental caries (IDC) was proposed ba

BACKGROUND: In recent years, the estimation of age in living individuals have become important to solve judicial or civil problems. Secondary dentin deposition occurs as the age advances and can be measured by calculating the reduction in pulp chamber through Noninvasive radiograph techniques.
AIM: The aim is to derive precise population specific formulae for age estimation.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Digitalized Orthopantomography of 150 subjects, was retrieved. The subjects were divided into study and test group. Pulp tooth area ratio was recorded from the maxillary canine and pulp chamber cro

Mutations in bone morphogenetic protein 1 (BMP1) in humans or deletion of BMP1 and related protease tolloid like 1 (TLL1) in mice lead to osteogenesis imperfecta (OI). Here, we show progressive periodontal defects in mice in which both BMP1 and TLL1 have been conditionally ablated, including malformed periodontal ligament (PDL) (recently shown to play key roles in normal alveolar bone formation), significant loss in alveolar bone mass ( P < 0.01), and a sharp reduction in cellular cementum. Molecular mechanism studies revealed a dramatic increase in the uncleaved precursor of type I collagen (

Estimation of age in individuals has received considerable attention in the forensic literature. The reduction of size of dental pulp cavity as a result of secondary dentin deposit with increasing age could be used as an indicator of age. This regression change, apart from morphological techniques, can also be analysed by radiological techniques. In 1995, Kvaal et al. reported a new method for estimating the chronological age of adults based on the relationship between age and the pulp size on periapical dental radiographs. In 2005, Paewinsky et al. reported specific regression formulae for de

OBJECTIVE: This study evaluated the biocompatibility of two dentin bonding agents (Clearfil Liner Bond 2 and Scotchbond Multi-Purpose) applied in human dental pulps and cell cultures.
METHOD AND MATERIALS: In vivo: Twenty human third molars that were scheduled for extraction were used. After cavity preparation, pulp exposure was achieved with a carbide bur. Hemorrhage control was obtained with saline solution. In 16 teeth, adhesive pulp capping was performed and the cavities were sealed with resin composite. In the control group (n = 4), pulps were capped with Ca(OH)2 and the cavities were se

Dental resin composites (DRCs), while indispensable in restorative dentistry for addressing tooth defects, are constrained by several inherent limitations. Conventional DRCs not only have cytotoxic potential but also undergo accelerated biodegradation mediated by host-derived enzymes and oral microbiota. Additionally, conventional DRCs are inherently bioinert-lacking the bioactivity required to inhibit the initiation and progression of secondary caries. Existing studies have found that degradation byproducts of DRCs may enhance the virulence of cariogenic pathogens. Concurrently, microleakage

INTRODUCTION: Hypophosphatemic rickets (HR) comprises a rare group of inherited diseases. Very recently, mutations in the dentin matrix protein 1 (DMP1) gene were identified in patients with an extremely rare autosomal recessive form of HR (ARHR). To date, very few cases of these mutations were reported.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A Lebanese consanguineous family with 2 affected sisters was studied. Patients aged 45 and 47years old presented with short stature, severe genu varum, cranial hyperostosis and a very high bone density that led to a diagnosis of a familial sclerosing bone dysplasia. Mol

Hypophosphatasia, a heritable disease characterized by deficient activity of the tissue nonspecific isoenzyme of alkaline phosphatase (TNSALP), results in rickets and osteomalacia. Although identification of TNSALP gene defects in hypophosphatasia establishes a role of ALP in skeletal mineralization, the precise function remains unclear. The initial site of mineralization (primary mineralization) normally occurs within the lumen of TNSALP-rich matrix vesicles (MVs) of growth cartilage, bone, and dentin. We investigated whether defective calcification in hypophosphatasia is due to a paucity and

Dentin in permanent teeth rarely undergoes resorption in development, homeostasis, or aging, in contrast to bone that undergoes periodic resorption/remodeling. The authors hypothesized that cells in the mesenchymal compartment of dental pulp attenuate osteoclastogenesis. Mononucleated and adherent cells from donor-matched rat dental pulp (dental pulp cells [DPCs]) and alveolar bone (alveolar bone cells [ABCs]) were isolated and separately cocultured with primary rat splenocytes. Primary splenocytes readily aggregated and formed osteoclast-like cells in chemically defined osteoclastogenesis med

Traumatic injuries in children and adolescents are a common problem, and the prevalence of such injuries has increased over the last 10-20 years. The purpose of the present investigation was to evaluate long-term results following uncomplicated crown fractures and luxations involving subsequent pulp canal obliteration. A total of 198 patients with 488 injured permanent teeth were available for clinical examination (15 year follow-up), of which 102 also answered a questionnaire and were interviewed before oral examination. Further, 82 permanent incisors presenting with pulp canal obliteration (

Air abrasion is regaining popularity especially in the area of pediatric dentistry due to its ease of use and its advantages. Due to the lost of tactile information, while using this technique, there is an increased risk for pulpal exposure. On the other hand, Ca(OH)2 medicament has been proven to induce dentin bridge formation, but an adequate sealing seems to be even more important that the capping material used. The purpose of this study was two fold: to assess the pulpal response after pulpal exposure by air abrasion and to evaluate the healing potential after using Ca(OH)2 medicament or L

The objective of this study was to evaluate the clinical performance of a packable restorative material, after 2 years in stress-bearing posterior cavities, according to the Ryge criteria. At least two Class 2 restorations (occluso-mesial, mesial-occlusal-distal, occlusal-distal) were placed in 46 patients (36.7 +/- 16 years). In each of the restorations (lot 221, metal matrix band system, glass ionomer-cement-base in 53% of the cavities, mostly no rubber dam) an adhesive system was used. Additionally, in each patient a flowable composite was used in one of the two fillings. After 2 years, 70%

Secondary dentine deposition is responsible for the decrease in the volume of the pulp cavity with age. Therefore, the volume of the pulp cavity can be considered as a predictor for estimating age. The aims of this study were to investigate the relationship strength between canine pulp volumes and chronological age from homogenous (approximately equal numbers of individuals in each age range) age distribution and to assess the effect of sex as predictor in age estimation. This study was performed on 719 subjects of Pakistani origin. Cone beam computed tomography images of 521 left maxillary an

Aging is the physiologic change that occurs over time. In humans, this change occurs at different rates and are related to lifestyle, environment and genetics. It can be challenging to differentiate normal aging from disease. In the oral cavity, with increasing age the teeth demonstrate wearing of the enamel, chipping and fracture lines, and a darker color. The pulp chamber and canals are reduced in size as a result of the deposition of secondary dentin. Coronal or root caries, however, represent disease. A limited amount of periodontal attachment loss occurs in association with aging, usually
