The conventional management of cleft patients involves presurgical infant orthopedics (PSIO), a strategy designed to align maxillary segments and improve nasal shape before definitive reparative surgery. Nasoalveolar molding (NAM) has been widely adopted for this purpose, but its drawbacks are threefold: it is costly and unavailable in many low-income countries and requires frequent follow-up. The aim of this article is to present practical PSIO alternatives that offer greater accessibility and sustainability while yielding comparable preoperative outcomes. The authors propose that the suggest

Compound odontoma is a malformation typical of young adults below the age of 20, with a slight preference for the male gender and the anterior region of the maxilla. Clinically asymptomatic, it can be detected during a radiological investigation in connection with the persistence of deciduous dental elements and the impaction of definitive ones. The treatment of choice is excisional surgery and recurrence is a rare event. The need for orthodontic therapy for impacted elements is usually not necessary because in most cases, odontomas are small, circumscribed lesions the size of a permanent toot

This report presents two cases of idiopathic osteosclerosis involving the maxilla and mandible which were identified as a buccally impacted canine and a retained root, respectively, on clinical and plain radiographical examinations. Both patients were females who presented with hypodontia. Radiographic evaluation revealed solitary well-defined radiopaque masses with thickened cortical border. Both patients were undergoing orthodontic treatment and one was planned for a surgical traction of unerupted tooth prior to cone-beam CT assessment. In this report, we reviewed the clinical findings and e

PURPOSE: We aimed to evaluate and compare effects of photobiomodulation (PBM) and low-magnitude high-frequency mechanical vibration (HFMV) on orthodontic retention.
METHODS: Sixty-four female Wistar albino rats were divided into 9 groups (2 negative and positive controls each, 3 PBM and 2 HFMV groups) and studied for 25 days. In the experimental groups, closed nickel-titanium closed coil springs with a 50 cN force were placed for 10 days between the maxillary incisor and molar. PBM and HFMV were applied daily over long- (15 days) and short-term (7 days) retention periods. The PBM groups recei

Class III malocclusions present a great challenge for many orthodontists, especially if malocclusions are found in adult patients and alongside other dental problems. This case report shows an adult patient with a skeletal class III anterior crossbite, a unilateral posterior crossbite on the right side, a congenital absence of both lateral incisors and retained deciduous teeth, and shift in the lower midline. The upper retained deciduous teeth and lower premolars were extracted. Leveling and alignment were initiated. Build-up composite resin placed on the first molars allowed for bite opening.

Cleft lip and palate (CLP) are structural anomalies resulting from the failure of craniofacial prominences to fuse during embryonic development. Orthodontic treatment seeks to address these conditions by improving dentofacial balance and restoring oral function, but long-term post-treatment stability continues to pose a challenge. This systematic review included a literature search of four electronic databases (PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Cochrane CENTRAL) to identify observational evidence on the stability of orthodontic treatment in CLP. Six studies, comprising three cohort studies a

INTRODUCTION: Currently, 1 out of 900 adults from the ages of 16 to 44 is a survivor of childhood cancer. The global rate of survival for all types of childhood cancer is close to 80% and progress in treatment and care continues to offer promising results. In the years following treatment, these children, just like other healthy children, should have access to orthodontic care in spite of their chronic health problems.
OBJECTIVES: A transverse epidemiological study was conducted at the Leon Bernard Cancer Treatment Center in Lyon in order to respond to these requests and to assist orthodontis

In this case report, an eleven-year-old female presented to a rural dental clinic for routine dental examination. Upon evaluation of the dentition, the attending dentist discovered an over-retained primary tooth. Radiographically, a compound odontoma was present, gingival to an unerupted permanent maxillary left central incisor (number nine) and apical to the erupted primary central incisor (F). The odontoma and its overlying primary tooth were removed by an oral surgeon. The extraction site has healed uneventfully and an Orthodontic treatment plan was formulated. The etiology of odontomas is

OBJECTIVE: Understanding the chief complaints of patients is essential for effective communication and successful orthodontic treatment. Although previous studies have often used structured questionnaires, few have applied data-driven methods to unstructured free-text responses. Furthermore, how these complaints from distinct semantic structures based on molar classifications remains underexplored. This study aimed to examine these structural differences using correspondence and co-occurrence network analyses.

INTRODUCTION: Impacted anterior teeth are common, with sequalae including root resorption of adjacent or nearby teeth. Management depends on patient- and tooth-specific factors; however, in cases of severe resorption, elective tooth loss may be favoured. This case discusses an aesthetic solution to disimpaction of an anterior tooth, involving multidisciplinary input.
PATIENT CONCERNS: A girl aged 13 years 10 months presented to an orthodontic department, complaining of missing teeth and poor dental aesthetics.
CLINICAL FINDINGS: Class II division 1 incisor relationship on a Class I skeletal

Solitary median maxillary central incisor (SMMCI) syndrome is a rare developmental disorder in which a patient presents with only one upper central incisor located in the midline, along with some other features - such as deviant sella turcica and pituitary gland morphology, panhypopituitarism, hypothyroidism, and hypoplasia of the inner genitals - that may or may not be present. Although some authors consider it a mild manifestation of holoprosencephaly, others classify it as a distinct entity. The aim of this case report is to describe the orthodontic treatment of an 11-year-old female patien
