BACKGROUND: After a pitching injury, players must go through a return to sports protocol to enable them to get back to competition. However, this should be done while reducing the risk of reinjury. In the early stages of the return to sports protocol, it is important to minimize kinetics while ideally working on pitching mechanics, which may be achieved through interval throwing progressions.
PURPOSE: To assess the differences in kinetics and kinematics during reduced effort pitching.
STUDY DESIGN: Descriptive laboratory study.
METHODS: Collegiate-aged pitchers (n = 19) throw 5 fastballs at

The purpose of this study was to evaluate characteristics of reinjury following forearm fractures in adolescents. An Institutional Review Board-approved retrospective cohort study of forearm fractures (ages 10-18 years) treated by a single academic pediatric orthopaedic group from June 2009 to May 2020 was conducted. All both bone forearm (BBFA) and radius or ulna primary and secondary injuries were included. We excluded open, surgically treated, physeal, epiphyseal, and radial head/neck fractures. Demographics, injury characteristics, and radiographic data were recorded. We evaluated associat

Accumulating evidence demonstrates that pain induces adaptations in the corticomotor representations of affected muscles. However, previous work has primarily investigated the upper limb, with few studies examining corticomotor reorganization in response to lower limb pain. This is important to consider, given the significant functional, anatomical, and neurophysiological differences between upper and lower limb musculature. Previous work has also focused on unilateral corticomotor changes in response to muscle pain, despite an abundance of literature demonstrating that unilateral pain conditi

BACKGROUND: Muscle deficits of the quadriceps and hamstrings are common after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, and increase the risk of knee reinjury. Muscle stiffness is an important factor for dynamic joint stability. However, the changes in quadriceps and hamstring muscle stiffness and its influence after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction remain unclear.
METHOD: Twenty-five male subjects with anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction and twenty-one matched healthy subjects participated in this study. The passive muscle stiffness of the quadriceps and hamstrings was assess

CONTEXT: Lateral ankle sprains (LAS) have one of the highest recurrence rates of all musculoskeletal injuries. An emphasis on rapid return to sport (RTS) following LAS likely increases reinjury risk. Unfortunately, no set of objective RTS criteria exist for LAS, forcing practitioners to rely on their own opinion of when a patient is ready to RTS.
PURPOSE: To determine if there was consensus among published expert opinions that could help inform an initial set of RTS criteria for LAS that could be investigated in future research.

CONTEXT: A relationship between altered postural control and injury has been reported in sports. Sensorimotor function serves a fundamental role in postural control and is not often studied in runners. Persons who sustain running injury may have altered sensorimotor function contributing to risk of injury or reinjury.
OBJECTIVES: To determine if differences in knee and ankle proprioception or plantar sensation exist between injured and noninjured runners.
DESIGN: Retrospective case-control study.
SETTING: University campus.
PARTICIPANTS: Twenty runners with a history of lower-extremity ove

BACKGROUND: Acute ankle ligament sprains are treated with the use of controlled mobilization with protection provided by external support (eg, functional treatment); however, there is little information regarding the best type of external support to use.
HYPOTHESIS: There is no difference between elastic wrapping, bracing, bracing combined with elastic wrapping, and casting for treatment of acute, first-time ankle ligament sprains in terms of the time a patient requires to return to normal function.
STUDY DESIGN: Randomized controlled clinical trial; Level of evidence, 1.

The runner is especially at risk for development of injury to the hip and pelvis secondary to chronic repetitive microtrauma. The key to treatment is establishing complete and accurate diagnosis, and, in particular, identifying the functional biomechanical deficits in the kinetic chain that contribute to this repetitive microtrauma. A long-term successful outcome and prevention of reinjury are more likely if the focus of rehabilitation is on the restoration of the functional kinetic chain, rather than on a specific injured tissue. For example, the typical treatment of "iliotibial band syndrome

Superficial digital flexor tendon (SDFT) injuries are common in athletic horses and are associated with prolonged healing and high reinjury rates. Conventional ultrasonography provides structural information but limited physiologic assessment. This study compared microvascular imaging (MVI) and Power Doppler (PD) for evaluating vascular changes in a collagenase-induced equine SDFT injury model and assessed the effect of scanning technique on vascular signal detection. Eight adult Thoroughbred horses underwent bilateral collagenase-induced SDFT injury, with one forelimb randomly assigned to int

Background: Participation in soccer imposes high physical, mechanical, and cognitive demands. Recent evidence suggests that cognitive load, often overlooked in injury prevention, interacts with biomechanical factors and injury risk, resembling a dual-task paradigm where players must adapt motor responses while processing unpredictable game situations. This cross-sectional observational study examined how adding a dual-task during single-leg countermovement-jumps (SLCMJ) affects neuromotor control and performance in elite soccer players. Methods: Players performed SLCMJ on the injured leg while
