Comprehensive phytochemical profiling and biological activities of Hodgsonia heteroclita subsp. indochinensis seed extracts.

Hodgsonia heteroclita subsp. indochinensis, a member of the Cucurbitaceae family, is utilized in traditional medicinal remedies based on indigenous wisdom. This study aimed to comprehensively identify and analyze the bioactive phytoconstituents within H. heteroclita subsp. indochinensis seeds. Seeds were sequentially extracted with n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and methanol. Liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis detected ferulic acid, salicylic acid, cucurbitacin E, stigmasterol glucoside, and β-sitosterol glucoside in all extracts. The total phenolic content in the HH(S)-EtOAc and HH(S)

Pharmacological Mechanism of Aucklandiae Radix against Gastric Ulcer Based on Network Pharmacology and In Vivo Experiment.

Background and Objectives: Aucklandiae Radix is a well-known medicinal herb that is often used to treat gastric ulcer, but its molecular mechanism of anti-ulcer action is poorly understood. This research aimed to reveal the potential active components, core targets, and mechanisms of Aucklandiae Radix in treating gastric ulcer by combining network pharmacology and animal experimentation. Materials and Methods: First, a network pharmacology strategy was used to predict the main components, candidate targets, and potential signaling pathways. Molecular docking was then used to confirm the bindin

Combinative effects of akarkara root-derived metabolites on anti-inflammatory and anti-alzheimer key enzymes: integrating bioassay-guided fractionation, GC-MS analysis, and in silico studies.

BACKGROUND: Anacyclus pyrethrum L. (Akarkara root), a valuable Ayurvedic remedy, is reported to exhibit various pharmacological activities. Akarkara root was subjected to bioassay-guided fractionation, to isolate its active constituents and discover their potential bioactivities, followed by computational analysis. METHODS: The methanol extract and its fractions, methylene chloride, and butanol, were assessed for their antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anticholinergic potentials. The antioxidant activity was determined using DPPH, ABTS, FRAP, and ORAC assays. The in vitro anticholinergic ef

Antimicrobial, Antigenotoxicity, and Characterization of Calotropis procera and Its Rhizosphere-Inhabiting Actinobacteria: In Vitro and In Vivo Studies.

Calotropis procera (C. procera) is a wild shrub that is a medicinal plant found in abundance throughout Saudi Arabia. In this study, we investigated the phytochemical composition and antigenotoxic properties of the ethanolic extract of C. procera, in addition to the antimicrobial activity of the plant and its rhizospheric actinobacteria effects against pathogenic microorganisms. Soil-extract medium supplemented with glycerol as a carbon source and starch-casein agar medium was used for isolation of actinobacteria from rhizosphere. From the plant, a total of 31 compounds were identified using g

Systematic Investigation of the Effect of Powerful Tianma Eucommia Capsule on Ischemic Stroke Using Network Pharmacology.

BACKGROUND: Ischemic stroke (IS) is a serious disease with a high rate of death and disability, and a growing number of people are becoming victims. Existing drugs not only have limited therapeutic effects but also have obvious side effects. Most importantly, drug resistance due to long-term or improper use of drugs is detrimental to patients. Therefore, it is urgent to find some alternative or supplementary medicines to alleviate the current embarrassment. Powerful Tianma Eucommia Capsule (PTEC) is mainly used to treat IS in China for thousands of years; however, the molecular mechanism is no

INDUCTION OF CELL CYCLE ARREST AND APOPTOSIS BY ORMENIS ERIOLEPIS A MORROCAN ENDEMIC PLANT IN VARIOUS HUMAN CANCER CELL LINES.

BACKGROUND: Ormenis eriolepis Coss (Asteraceae) is an endemic Moroccan subspecies, traditionally named "Hellala" or "Fergoga". It's usually used for its hypoglycemic effect as well as for the treatment of stomacal pain. As far as we know, there is no scientific exploration of anti tumoral activity of Ormenis eriolepis extracts. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this regard, we performed a screening of organic extracts and fractions in a panel of both hematological and solid cancer cell lines, to evaluate the potential in vitro anti tumoral activity and to elucidate the respective mechanisms that may

Association of dietary intake of polyphenols, lignans, and phytosterols with immune-stimulating microbiota and COVID-19 risk in a group of Polish men and women.

OBJECTIVES: Devastating consequences of COVID-19 disease enhanced the role of promoting prevention-focused practices. Among targeted efforts, diet is regarded as one of the potential factors which can affect immune function and optimal nutrition is postulated as the method of augmentation of people's viral resistance. As epidemiological evidence is scarce, the present study aimed to explore the association between dietary intake of total polyphenols, lignans and plant sterols and the abundance of immunomodulatory gut microbiota such as Enterococcus spp. and Escherichia coli and the risk of dev

Antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects of fractions from ripe fruits of Solanum lycocarpum St. Hil. (Solanaceae) and putative identification of bioactive compounds by GC-MS and LC-DAD-MS.

Brazilian biodiversity includes species of the genus Solanum that have several biological activities, in addition to their relevance to agriculture, economics and popular medicine. The ripe fruits of Solanum lycocapum are an important nutritional food source, since they have levels of vitamin C, total soluble sugars, sucrose, phosphorus, and iron comparable or exceed the levels present in fruits such as pineapples, bananas, oranges, and mangoes. The pulp of the fruit is consumed by the population, and it is also used to produce jellies; to make marmalade, replacing the quince, and it can also

Fucosterol, a Phytosterol of Marine Algae, Attenuates Immobilization-Induced Skeletal Muscle Atrophy in C57BL/6J Mice.

The objective of this study was to examine whether fucosterol, a phytosterol of marine algae, could ameliorate skeletal muscle atrophy in tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α)-treated C2C12 myotubes and in immobilization-induced C57BL/6J mice. Male C57BL6J mice were immobilized for 1 week to induce skeletal muscle atrophy. Following immobilization, the mice were administrated orally with saline or fucosterol (10 or 30 mg/kg/day) for 1 week. Fucosterol significantly attenuated immobilization-induced muscle atrophy by enhancing muscle strength, with a concomitant increase in muscle volume, mass, a
