The Effects of the Persian Writing Treatment Protocol on Communication Skills in People With Aphasia After Stroke.

INTRODUCTION: Aphasia is one of the most severe post-stroke deficits affecting speech, comprehension, reading, and writing modalities. In some patients, speech is severely impaired, so choosing an alternative or complementary approach for communication seems necessary. Writing has the closest characteristics to verbal language. So, it can be a substitute or facilitate speech and improve the quality of communication. Therefore, this study aimed to design a writing treatment protocol for Persian stroke patients and investigate its effect on improving communication skills. METHODS: First, the wr

The Role of Imitation, Primitives, and Spatial Referent Coordinates in Motor Control: Implications for Writing and Reading.

We review a body of literature related to the drawing and recognition of geometrical two-dimensional linear drawings including letters. Handwritten letters are viewed not as two-dimensional geometrical objects but as one-dimensional trajectories of the tip of the implement. Handwritten letters are viewed as composed of a small set of kinematic primitives. Recognition of objects is mediated by processes of their creation (actual or imagined)-the imitation principle, a particular example of action-perception coupling. The concept of spatial directional field guiding the trajectories is introduce

IxPopDyMod: an R package to write, run, and analyze tick population and infection dynamics models.

Given the increasing prevalence of tick-borne diseases, such as Lyme disease, modeling the population and infection dynamics of tick vectors is an important public health tool. These models have applications for testing the effects of control methods or climate change on tick populations. There is an established history of tick population models, but code for them is rarely shared, especially not in a convenient format for others to modify and use. We present an R package, called IxPopDyMod, intended to function as a flexible and consistent framework for reproducible Ixodidae (hard-bodied tick

Reading and Writing Skills in Children With Specific Learning Disabilities With and Without Developmental Coordination Disorder.

This pilot study is to investigate the influence of a developmental coordination disorder (DCD) comorbidity in a group of children with learning disability (LD). Reading and writing were assessed to investigate if the coexistence of a motor impairment can worsen writing quality, speed, and reading accuracy. A sample of 33 LD children (aged 7-11 years) was divided in two subgroups, on the base of their scores on the Movement Assessment Battery for Children: LD-only (n = 14) and LD with a comorbidity for DCD (LD-DCD, n = 19). No differences were found in handwriting speed, but significant differ

Ask me: Children's experiences of pain explored using the draw, write, and tell method.

PURPOSE: Pain management within emergency departments (ED) remains challenging. Given that unrelieved pain in children is linked to a number of negative physiological and psychological consequences, optimal management of children's pain is paramount. Many studies exploring children's pain have adopted quantitative methods or sought the perspectives of adults. Compared to adults, studies examining children's views on pain and pain management are limited. This study aimed to explore children's pain experiences, their perception of pain management and expectations of the role of the nurse. DESIG

Combining creative writing and narrative analysis to deliver new insights into the impact of pulmonary hypertension.

INTRODUCTION: Pulmonary hypertension is life limiting. Delays in diagnosis are common, and even after treatment has been initiated, pulmonary hypertension has marked effects on many aspects of social and physical function. We believed that a new approach to examining disease impact could be achieved through a combination of narrative research and creative writing. METHODS: Detailed unstructured narrative interviews with people with pulmonary hypertension were analysed thematically. Individual moments were also summarised and studied using creative writing, in which the interviewer created mic

Impaired Retention of Motor Learning of Writing Skills in Patients with Parkinson's Disease with Freezing of Gait.

BACKGROUND: Patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) and freezing of gait (FOG) suffer from more impaired motor and cognitive functioning than their non-freezing counterparts. This underlies an even higher need for targeted rehabilitation programs in this group. However, so far it is unclear whether FOG affects the ability for consolidation and generalization of motor learning and thus the efficacy of rehabilitation. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the hallmarks of motor learning in people with FOG compared to those without by comparing the effects of an intensive motor learning program to improve ha

Outline for writing an article for current treatment options in oncology: splenic lymphoma with villous lymphocytes.

Two subtypes of splenic marginal zone lymphoma (SMZL) are identified in the World Health Organization (WHO) classification: SMZL without villous lymphocytes and SMZL with villous lymphocytes in the peripheral blood (SLVL). SLVL is a rare leukemic and indolent B-cell chronic lymphoproliferative disorder (B-CLPD) that we have to differentiate from hairy cell leukemia (HCL), B prolymphocytic leukemia (B-PLL) and follicular lymphoma (FL). Morphological examination associated with immunophenotyping is, in most cases, likely to distinguish these CD5 negative entities. However, the diagnosis can be d

Computerized content analysis of some adolescent writings of Napoleon Bonaparte: a test of the validity of the method.

The aim of this study was to test the validity of a computer software program previously demonstrated to be capable of making DSM-IV neuropsychiatric diagnoses from the content analysis of speech or verbal texts. In this report, the computer program was applied to three personal writings of Napoleon Bonaparte when he was 12 to 16 years of age. The accuracy of the neuropsychiatric evaluations derived from the computerized content analysis of these writings of Napoleon was independently corroborated by two biographers who have described pertinent details concerning his life situations, moods, an

[A case of pure alexia whose writing ability with eyes closed was superior to that with eyes open].

We compared the writing ability between eyes open (looking at one's writing) and eyes closed (without looking) in a case of pure alexia. The patient is a 84-year-old right handed man who developed pure alexia following an infarction in the distribution of the left posterior cerebral artery. He showed right homonymous hemianopsia, slight memory disorder and slight anomia. He could not read any kinds of letters and words at all though he could categorize letters: Kana (phonograms), Kanji (morphograms) and Arabic numbers, and he could distinguish the real letters from false ones. He could achieve

Evaluation of the efficacy of piracetam in treating information processing, reading and writing disorders in dyslexic children.

Piracetam, a new class of drug (nootropil) thought to enhance specific cognitive skills, was given in a 3300 mg daily dose to half of a group of fifty-five dyslexic boys aged 8-13 years, in a 12-week, double-blind, placebo-controlled study. The other half of the subjects received placebo. All subjects met the following criteria: normal intelligence, normal educational opportunities, no severe emotional problems, no neurological handicaps, good physical health, not taking other psychotropic medication, and scoring at least one and one half years below their mental age equivalent on the Gilmore

Observability-driven double-rotation self-calibration of non-rotational symmetry errors in laser direct writing lithography.

Coaxial computer-generated holograms (CGHs) are widely applied in high-precision wavefront testing of coaxial optical systems. Non-rotational symmetry error of these CGHs is one of the dominant error sources, which is critically determined by the stage errors of the laser direct writing system. However, existing approaches typically require high-precision reference masks, and the calibration area cannot exceed 6 inches, which limits their applicability and efficiency. In this study, an observability-driven self-calibration method was proposed to reconstruct non-rotational symmetry errors based

Cumulative Mechanism and Nonlinear Propagation Effects of Nitrogen-Vacancy Center Formation Induced by Femtosecond Laser Writing.

Nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers in diamond are a promising building block for quantum information and sensing technologies due to their excellent quantum properties and room-temperature operation. A key requirement to obtain quantum-grade NV centers lies in a controlled NV fabrication process. While ion implantation is the dominant fabrication process, laser irradiation has shown great potential, but it is still underexplored. In this work, we investigate the fabrication of NV centers using a 515 nm femtosecond laser with a repetition rate of 500 kHz in a single-step process with no separate see

Metacognitive Filtering and Cognitive Offloading in AI-Assisted L2 Writing: A PRISMA Guided Process-Tracing Synthesis.

This study conducted a PRISMA-guided systematic review of 33 empirical studies examining learner interactions with AI-mediated feedback in L2 writing between 2010 and 2025. Evidence was synthesized from process-tracing methods, including keystroke logging, eye-tracking, screen capture, interaction logs, and draft-history analytics. The findings revealed two recurring interaction profiles. Higher-regulation learners typically engaged in selective uptake, recursive evaluation, and extended processing of AI feedback, whereas lower-regulation learners more frequently indicate rapid acceptance and
