INTRODUCTION: Hereditary gelsolin amyloidosis (GA) is a rare condition caused by the gelsolin gene mutation. The diagnostic triad includes corneal lattice dystrophy (type 2), progressive bilateral facial paralysis, and cutis laxa. Detailed information on facial paralysis in GA and the extent of cranial nerve injury is lacking.
METHODS: 29 GA patients undergoing facial corrective surgery were interviewed, examined, and studied electroneurophysiologically.

BACKGROUND: Numerous surgical decompression techniques have been described in endocrine orbitopathy. We present an overview of the treatment and clinical outcome of 13 patients with endocrine ophthalmopathy and 20 orbital decompressions via an extradural pterional approach, carried out in our center from 1995 to 2002.

MALT lymphomas of the orbit are rare orbital tumors; the differential diagnosis needs to exclude inflammatory pseudotumors of the orbit, but also benign lymphoproliferations, pseudolymphomas, and other orbital neoplasms. After histological confirmation of the diagnosis staging is necessary, and - as long as the disease is localized exclusively in the orbit - radiation therapy should be started. The clinical picture of MALT lymphoma and its differential diagnosis and treatment are discussed with reference to an actual case.

We describe a case of a 42 year old male who presented with Addison's disease resulting from primary lymphoma of the adrenals. Our case and a review of the literature indicates that this distinct entity has some unique clinical and radiologic features.
