Capsular tension ring in a patient with Weill-Marchesani syndrome.

Weill-Marchesani patients with cataractous lenses may presnet a surgical challenge in the presence of zonular weakness and microsherophakia. A 52-year-old Weill-Marchesani patient developed zonular dehiscence during capsule contraction after cataract extraction in her right eye. Use of a poly(methyl methacrylate) capsular tension ring in the second eye facilitated lens removal and intraocular lens placement. Postoperative results suggest the capsular tension ring provides long-term zonular stabilization by maintaining an internal force against the capsule.

A Modified Customized Rigid Gas Permeable Contact Lens to Improve Visualization During Phacoemulsification in Ectatic Corneas.

Advanced Keratoconus and ectatic corneal diseases may lead to corneal thinning and irregular astigmatism. The optical distortion caused by these pathologies may result in poor visibility for the surgeon during phacoemulsification. Thus, the risk of complication would be increased intraoperatively (capsular rupture, vitreous loss). The aim of this case series was to use a modified customized Rigid Gas Permeable (RGP) contact lens to improve visualization during all the stages of phacoemulsification in irregular corneas and to avoid open sky technique for cataract removal during penetrating kera

Outcome of Capsular Tension Ring (CTR) Implant in Complicated Cataracts.

INTRODUCTION: Surgery in the presence of zonular weakness or subluxated lens was a great surgical challenge and included intracapsular cataract extraction with anterior chamber IOL implantation or pars plana lensectomy and vitrectomy with a sutured (IOL). Modern surgical approache involves placement of endocapsular flexible PMMA ring that prevents iatrogenic loss of zonular support, minimizing vitreous loss and enables placement of in the bag IOL. AIM: To evaluate frequency and indications of capsular tension ring (CTR) implant and analyse the visual and anatomical outcome in various complica

[Artificial monoblock lenses implantation following rupture of posterior capsule during phacoemulsification surgery].

BACKGROUND/AIM: Phacoemulsification is a modern surgical technique for cataract operations. Through minimal corneal wound (2.2-2.7 mm) lens nucleus is emulsificated and arteficial lens is implanted in capsular bag. Complications during operations are possible, and can vary from minor to very serious one, with consecutive visual loss. One of possible complications is rupture of posterior lens capsule, which could happen in any stage of operation. The aim of this study was to evaluate results of monoblock arteficial lens implantation in sulcus on the remains of anterior capsule and capsulorhexis
