INTRODUCTION: Soft tissue infections are common, but erysipelas, especially its blistering feature, is an under-recognised entity. There have been few reports of blistering erysipelas. We aim to describe the clinical characteristics, management and the risk factors for erysipelas in 20 patients admitted in a tertiary hospital in Singapore.
METHODS: A chart review of all cases of erysipelas, diagnosed by experienced dermatologists and admitted to the Singapore General Hospital during the period January 2006 to August 2006, was conducted.

The use of antibiotics for appendicectomy in Antigua and Barbuda, from January 1998 to December 1999, was examined with respect to current Surgical Infection Society guidelines from developed countries. Ear swabs from 350 patients with chronic otitis media attending different orthorhinolaryngological clinics at different hospitals and health centres in Benin City and Ekpoma in Edo State were screened for the presence of bacterial agents of chronic otitis media. Results revealed the presence of 19 different species indicating polymicrobial infections. Ninety-nine cases of neonatal septicaemia prospectively seen over a 3-year period in a large cosmopolitan African city of high altitude is presented. An incidence of 6.5 per 1000 live births was noted. A retrospective study of 40 children with osteomyelitis revealed that the patients presented in hospital late. Therefore chronic osteomyelitis is prevalent in Nigerian children.
