Treatment of invasive cervical resorption with sandwich technique using mineral trioxide aggregate: a case report.

This article presents two cases of large invasive cervical resorption (ICR) with maintenance of pulp vitality after treatment with mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) in a sandwich technique.Invasive cervical resorption is a relatively uncommon but aggressive form of external resorption, primarily caused by dental trauma or injury of the cervical periodontal attachment. The resorptive process does not penetrate into the root canal, and the pulp is not involved in the first phase of the resorption. This feature differentiates external resorption from internal resorption. In most cases, invasive ce

The effect of trichloracetic acid as a hemostatic and etching agent on the morphological characteristics and shear bond strength of resin composite to enamel.

INTRODUCTION: Trichloracetic acid (TCA) is a soft tissue chemical cauterizing agent that is used on gingival margins prior to restoring cervical cavities with resin materials. This study evaluated the effect of TCA gel as an etchant, its use before etchant on the shear bond strength between resin composite and enamel and also its effect on enamel surface morphological characteristics. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Seventy-five sound, extracted human anterior maxillary teeth were selected for the purpose of this in vitro study. The teeth were equally divided into five groups prior to enamel surface p

Pulp capping with mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA): a retrospective analysis of carious pulp exposures treated by undergraduate dental students.

The current study estimated pulpal vitality after MTA pulp caps were performed by undergraduate student clinicians. At recall after 12 to 27 months, 51 pulp caps were clinically and radiographically assessed. Kaplan-Meier analyses were used to estimate overall success at 12 and 24 months, determined as the presence of a vital pulp, as well as impact of preoperative variables on pulp vitality at recall. Overall, one-year pulp survival was 67.7%, while the two-year survival rate was 56.2%. Tarone-Ware statistics indicated that neither age of the patient nor size of the exposure ("minimal" or "mo

Histology of Irreversible pulpitis premolars treated with mineral trioxide aggregate pulpotomy.

Studies show that human permanent teeth with carious pulpal exposures can result in a high clinical success rate when treated with pulpotomy and direct pulp capping with mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA pulpotomy). In this case report, a 19-year-old female patient with a second premolar with irreversible pulpitis and symptomatic apical periodontitis was treated with MTA pulpotomy. Follow-up electric pulp tests showed viability of the tooth at three and 10 months. Ten months after the initial treatment, the tooth was extracted for orthodontic reasons and processed for histological examination. M

Effect of pre-heating resin composite on restoration microleakage.

Improving the adaptation of resin composites during placement is necessary to increase durability and reduce microleakage. Flowable resin liners have been introduced to improve adaptation in composite restorations. In addition, a device that lowers the viscosity of regular dental composites has been introduced (Calset, AdDent Inc, Danbury, CT, USA). This device lowers the viscosity of composites by preheating them to 54.4 degrees C, which should lead to improved adaptation. This study compared microleakage in Class II composite restorations prepared using: 1) preheated resin composite, 2) unhe

Comparison of pulp responses to resin composites.

Diverse reports have described how various types of adhesive systems cause disastrous pulp necrosis, chronic severe inflammation or failure to stimulate any pulp reactions. This article reports on the effects of five common adhesive systems and how they compare in terms of pulp injury as measured by odontoblast survival or dentin regeneration and reactionary dentin formation. One hundred and thirty Class V pulp, non-exposed cavities were prepared in non-human primate teeth and were restored with five different adhesive systems.
