Glutathione-Modified MoS2 Quantum Dots for Detection of Fe3+ and Ag+ ions in Water and Cell Imaging Applications.

Achieving accurate detection of dual metal ions remains crucial challenging in the domains of ion sensing and cell imaging. Herein, glutathione (GSH)-modified MoS2 quantum dots (QDs) were synthesized via a simple one-step hydrothermal method. Upon excitation at 326 nm, the GSH-MoS2 QDs emit blue fluorescence and exhibit significant fluorescence quenching in the presence of Fe³⁺ and Ag⁺ ions, with a linear response at low concentrations. The detection limits for Fe3+ and Ag+ were determined to be 105 nM and 67.7nM, respectively. Fluorescence lifetime measurements reveal a decrease upon addition

A NIR dual-functional chemosensor for monitoring the redox level and micro-viscosity during cuproptosis process.

A recently characterized copper-mediated cell death pathway, cuproptosis, is distinguished by mitochondrial dysfunction, elevated reactive oxygen species, and protein aggregation. Accurate assessment of reactive chemical species and shifts in the cellular microenvironment during this process is essential for elucidating its underlying mechanisms. Herein, we describe the rational construction and application of a bifunctional fluorescent sensor, YTO, engineered to simultaneously monitor hypochlorous acid (HOCl) and intracellular microviscosity through discrete fluorescence channels. This probe

Engineering Mono- to Trimetallic Nanoclusters for Next-Generation Luminescence Sensing of Narcotic Drugs.

Monometallic, bimetallic, and trimetallic fluorescent nanoclusters (NCs) stabilized by lysozyme (Lyz), glutathione (GSH), and 4-mercaptopropionic acid (MPA) were synthesized using gold (Au), silver (Ag), and cadmium (Cd) via a simple chemical route. Among the synthesized NCs, the trimetallic systems demonstrated superior photoluminescent and sensing properties. Specifically, the quantum yields of AuAgCd-Lyz and AuAgCd-GSH nanoclusters were determined to be 1.42% and 2.09%, respectively. Comparative analysis revealed that trimetallic NCs exhibited significantly enhanced sensitivity in the detec

Synthesis of a cyanine-based fluorescent probe and its dual-channel recognition of TNP and PYX in aqueous solution.

A fluorescent probe with excellent biocompatibility and water solubility was constructed, which can achieve highly selective detection of trace 2,4,6-trinitrophenol (TNP) and 2,6-bis(picrylamino)-3,5-dinitropyridine (PYX). The probe exhibits a purple color and red fluorescence in aqueous solution, and can specifically and rapidly recognize TNP and PYX through a dual-channel mode of naked-eye color change and fluorescence quenching, showing good detection sensitivity. Spectroscopic test results indicated that the limits of detection (LOD) of TNP and PYX measured by UV-vis absorption spectroscop

A new quinolinium-based colorimetric and NIR fluorescence dual response probe for bisulfite recognition and its application in real-world samples and cell imaging.

Sulfur dioxide (SO₂) has long been recognized as an environmental pollutant, and excessive intake of SO₂ and its derivatives can cause adverse effects on human health. In this work, three near-infrared (NIR) fluorescence turn-on probes (QT-BT, QT-BI and QT-PT) for HSO₃- detection were designed and synthesized. Among the probes, QT-PT exhibited superior overall HSO₃- recognition performance. In PBS:DMF (7:3, v/v, pH = 7.4) buffer solution, QT-PT enabled dual-channel recognition of HSO₃- through a distinct color change (from Light yellow to pink) and a remarkable fluorescence turn-on response (6

Photoactivated fluorescent nanozymes from mulberry leaf-derived carbon dots for dual-mode antioxidant determination and biothiol contribution estimation.

Contribution-resolved antioxidant determination in complex food matrices remains challenging because the total antioxidant response usually arises from multiple overlapping reducing species. Herein, red-emissive carbon dots (CDs) were prepared from mulberry leaves via a solvothermal method and developed as highly efficient photoactivated fluorescent nanozymes for dual-mode antioxidant determination. The CDs exhibited a large Stokes shift (Δλ = 272 nm) and were stably dispersed in aqueous media with the assistance of Tween-20. Under 365 nm irradiation, the CDs showed oxidase-like activity towar

A selective near-infrared fluorescent probe for detecting hydrogen peroxide in Alzheimer's disease.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder with growing incidence among younger populations, highlighting the urgent need for early and accurate detection of AD-related biomarkers. Excessive production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), particularly hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), induces oxidative stress, leading to neuronal damage and death, which implicates H2O2 as a potential biomarker for AD. In this study, leveraging the advantages of fluorescence imaging, we developed a novel near-infrared (NIR) fluorescent probe, LDMD-B, capable of selectively detecting H2O2 through

Construction of an ion-imprinted ratiometric fluorescence sensor integrating zirconium-based metal-organic framework and carbon dots for sensitive detection of copper ion.

The pollution of Cu2+ has seriously endangered human health and water ecological environment. It is crucial to explore a rapid and sensitive fluorescence detection method for monitoring Cu2+. In present work, an ion-imprinted functionalized zirconium-based metal-organic framework (NH2-UiO-66@IIPs) was innovatively designed and prepared, and yellow fluorescent carbon dots (CDs) were fabricated with o-phenylenediamine and tetraphenylethylene via a hydrothermal method. The experimental results demonstrated that Cu2+ could quench the fluorescence intensity of NH2-UiO-66@IIPs, and the fluorescence

Remarkable difference in Al3+ and Zn2+ sensing properties of quinoline based isomers.

Two positional isomers, 4-methyl-2-((quinolin-6-ylimino)methyl)phenol (6-QMP) and 4-methyl-2-((quinolin-2-ylimino)methyl)phenol (2-QMP), have been synthesized to compare their fluorescence sensing properties. 6-QMP and 2-QMP have been synthesized by Schiff-base condensation between 2-hydroxy-5-methylbenzaldehyde and the respective amine (6-aminoquinoline for 6-QMP and 2-aminoquinoline for 2-QMP) under mild conditions. These compounds have been characterized by standard methods. 6-QMP and 2-QMP have been found to be dual fluorescence chemosensors for Al3+ and Zn2+ ions but the increment of fluo

Fluorescence-based determination of cyclic adenosine monophosphate in nasal secretions of healthy and post COVID-19 patients using Tinopal CBS-X.

Olfactory dysfunction is among the most prevalent long-term complications post COVID-19 infection, largely attributed to SARS-CoV-2 induced inflammation and epithelial injury within the olfactory mucosa. Cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP), a critical second messenger in olfactory transduction, may act as a biochemical indicator of impaired neuronal signaling. This study aimed to develop and validate a novel fluorescence-based method for the determination of cAMP in human nasal secretions using Tinopal CBS-X as a selective fluorescent probe. The method is based on the instantaneous formation

Poly-thymine-mediated fluorescence recovery of N-CQDs for turn-on sensing of APE1 activity in breast cancer cell lysates.

A label-free turn-on fluorescent biosensor is developed for APE1 activity detection based on APE1-gated release of poly-T strands from a constrained DNA duplex, which competitively displaces Ag+ from N-CQDs, recovering fluorescence. The sensor achieves a detection limit of 0.02 U mL-1, excellent selectivity, and one-step operation. It successfully detects APE1 in serum (recoveries 92-108%) and in cancer cell lysates (MCF-7, MDA-MB-231, HeLa, HepG2), with a threshold as low as 192 cells, and distinguishes cancer cells from normal cells. This simple, robust platform holds promise for DNA repair

Arginine (Arg) and ascorbic acid (AA) are essential nutrients that significantly impact human health. In this research, we introduced a novel N-CDs/RhB ratiometric fluorescent probe for sensitive detection of Arg and AA. The probe was constructed through simple physical mixing of rhodamine B (RhB) and nitrogen-doped carbon dots (N-CDs), leveraging fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) between N-CDs and RhB. The optimal excitation wavelength for N-CDs was determined to be 440 nm, with fluorescence emission at 510 nm, while RhB exhibited excitation and emission peaks at 557 nm and 572 nm

A dual-mode sensing platform based on bifunctional iron-doped carbon dots for sarcosine detection.

Sarcosine (SA) serves as a crucial biomarker for the diagnosis of prostate cancer, and its concentration in the body fluids of patients is strongly correlated with disease progression. Therefore, it is highly significant to develop a sensitive method for SA detection. In this study, iron-doped carbon dots (Fe-CDs) exhibiting peroxidase-like activity and bright yellow-green fluorescence were synthesized. A dual-mode sensing platform for the detection of SA was subsequently constructed based on the as-prepared Fe-CDs. Under the catalysis of sarcosine oxidase, SA underwent an oxidative reaction w

Smartphone-integrated ratiometric fluorescent sensor based on Al-doped carbon dots for specific detection of chlortetracycline.

The widespread use of chlortetracycline (CTC) in agriculture and aquaculture has raised significant concerns regarding environmental contamination and human health risks. There is a critical demand for developing rapid, sensitive, and selective detection techniques for CTC identification. In this study, we introduced a smartphone-integrated ratiometric fluorescent sensor utilizing Al-doped carbon dots (Al-CDs), which were synthesized through a straightforward one-pot hydrothermal method. CTC quenches Al-CDs' fluorescence at 400 nm via the inner filter effect. Concurrently, a distinct fluoresce

A ratiometric fluorescent sensor based on carbon dots encapsulated in ZIF-8 for visual discrimination and detection of tetracycline and chlortetracycline.

Tetracyclines (TCs), widely used in livestock farming, accumulate in ecosystems and pose health risks due to their persistence. Existing detection methods suffer from high cost, complex procedures, and insufficient specificity. Herein, a dual-emission fluorescent composite (CDs@ZIF-8) was designed by encapsulating carbon dots (CDs) into zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8). The composite material exhibits distinct dual emission peaks at 332 nm (ZIF-8) and 492 nm (CDs), and achieves ratiometric fluorescence sensing and differentiation between two structurally analogous antibiotics tetracycl

Fe3C@NC nanozyme-based platform for highly sensitive dual-readout sequential detection of cysteine and Hg2.

Simultaneous detection of biologically relevant thiols and toxic heavy metal ions is important for biomedical analysis, food safety, and environmental monitoring. Cysteine (Cys) is a key sulfur-containing amino acid involved in redox regulation, whereas mercury(II) (Hg2⁺) is a highly toxic pollutant that binds strongly to thiol groups. This Hg2⁺-thiol interaction provides a chemical basis for sequential Cys/Hg2⁺ sensing. However, many nanozyme-based optical assays rely on H₂O₂-dependent peroxidase-like activity, and the instability of H₂O₂ can compromise assay reproducibility and practical use

Naked-eye fluorescence sensing of aluminum using a bis(rhodamine)-phenyl hybrid for environmental monitoring and in vitro/in vivo bioimaging.

A new probe, Rh-Ph-Rh, featuring two rhodamine groups attached to a phenyl ring, was developed. This hybrid compound serves multiple purposes: it turns on with a strong fluorescent signal in the presence of aluminum ions (Al3+) and can detect them at concentrations as low as 358 nM. When both Al3+ and cyanide ions (CN⁻) are present, fluorescence is quenched, enabling sensitive detection of CN¯ (619 nM). Beyond sensing, Rh-Ph-Rh can act as a molecular "memory" unit and displays notable electrical properties. Practical applications include rapid detection of Al3+ and CN⁻ ions using filter paper

Development of a graphene oxide-based PEGylated fluorescent aptasensor with ultrahigh-sensitivity and anti-fouling properties for the detection of serum carcinoembryonic antigen levels.

The specificity and sensitivity of aptamer-based serum biomarker assays can be compromised by nonspecific adsorption of proteins. In this study, we used the carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) aptamer as a model to develop a fluorescent aptasensor capable of specifically and sensitively detecting serum biomarkers. This aptasensor employs the good antifouling capability of polyethylene glycol 2000 (P2K) to enhance specificity and the good fluorescence resonance energy transfer capability of graphene oxide (GO) to improve sensitivity. The aptasensor was applied to determine pure CEA protein and CEA i
