Biofilm formation by Histophilus somni on 3D bovine respiratory tissue cultures.

The development of bacterial biofilms following infection involves bacterial attachment to tissues and maturation of the biofilm matrix (BM). However, studying the development of bacterial biofilms in vivo is difficult to follow. An established example of biofilm formation during host infection is bovine respiratory disease (BRD) due to Histophilus somni. To more accurately investigate in vivo biofilm development, three-dimensional bovine airway organoids comprised of bovine turbinate epithelial (BE) and pulmonary artery endothelial (BAE) cells embedded in type I collagen were developed. Proteomic analysis of 7-octenoic acid antifibrotic effects in TGF-β1 activated hepatic stellate cells.

Liver fibrosis represents the liver’s adaptive response to sustained and intense inflammation triggered by diverse insults, ranging from dietary factors to infectious agents. Although early-stage fibrosis can be reversible, unchecked progression often leads to cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. Therapeutic options remain limited, highlighting the pressing need for novel anti‑fibrotic agents. In this study, we evaluated the in vitro anti‑fibrotic effects of 7‑octenoic acid (7‑OCT), a bioactive constituent from Moringa oleifera Lam. Human hepatic stellate LX‑2 cells were stimulated with TGF

Identification of Essential Oils Including Garlic Oil and Black Pepper Oil with High Activity against Babesia duncani.

Some evidence indicated that human babesiosis caused by Babesia duncani has spread widely in North America. However, current therapeutic regimens (atovaquone + azithromycin) for human babesiosis are suboptimal with frequent recrudescence and side effects, and furthermore, there is no specific treatment for human babesiosis caused by B. duncani. Here, we screened 97 essential oils and identified 10 essential oils (garlic, black pepper, tarragon, palo santo, coconut, pine, meditation, cajeput, moringa, and stress relief) at a low concentration (0.001%; v/v) that showed good inhibitory activity a

Discovering the most impactful treatments for aluminum phosphide cardiotoxicity gleaned from systematic review of animal studies.

INTRODUCTION: Aluminum phosphide (AlP) is a chemical compound that can cause death in some countries. AlP inhibits the functioning of cytochrome C oxidase in the mitochondria of cardiomyocytes, leading to toxicity. Oxidative stress and ROS production, as well as inflammatory signaling, mediate the mechanisms of AlP-related toxicity in the poisoned patient. Unfortunately, there are no approved medicines available to treat AlP poisoning yet. To address this issue, researchers have explored various interventions to reduce the toxicity associated with AlP tablets. METHODS: We systematically searc
