A total of 310 vaginal swabs collected from a group of married Jordanian women complaining of vaginal discharge were examined for bacterial vaginosis. The scoring system of Nugent for the interpretation of Gram staining was employed. This system revealed the presence of the condition in 29.7% of patients. Results obtained using the scoring system correlated significantly with the detection of clue cells and the scarcity of white blood cells in the vaginal discharge. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the relationship between the presence of microorganisms at the time of cesarean at different sites of the genital tract and the development of postpartum endometritus.
METHODS: One-hundred thirty-three healthy women who delivered by cesarean were enrolled in this prospective study. Cultures were obtained during the surgery and on days 3-5 postoperatively. Gram staining of uterine cavity fluid was done on days 3-5. Gram stains were examined under a high-power microscope for the presence of polymorphonuclear leukocytes.

Thirty-nine clinical isolates of Pseudomonas aeruginosa collected from 11 cystic fibrosis (CF) patients at two CF attention centers over 10 years were subjected to whole genome sequencing (WGS). BACKGROUND: The mechanisms of hypertrophic scar formation and its tissue inflammation remain unknown.
METHODS: We collected 33 hypertrophic scar (HS) and 36 normal skin (NS) tissues, and detected the tissue inflammation and bacteria using HE staining, Gram staining, and transmission electronic microscopy (TEM), in situ hybridization and immunohistochemistry for MCP-1, TNF-α, IL-6 and IL-8. In addition, the samples were assayed by 16S rRNA sequencing to investigate the microbiota diversity in HS, and the correlation between the microbiota and the indices of Vancouver Scar Scale(VSS)score.

A 45-year-old male presented with history of multiple swellings over the foot with sinuses discharging seropurulent pus. Actinomadura madurae was demonstrated and identified by microbiological culture from the pus obtained directly of the lesion. This case is reported to emphasize the importance of laboratory diagnosis in the management and assessment of the prognosis of such cases.

A comparison of clofazimine and dapsone in the management of untreated lepromatous leprosy showed no significant differences between the two drugs in terms of morphological and bacterial indices. The incidence of erythema nodosum leprosum was similar in the two groups. Since dapsone is cheaper than clofazimine it remains the drug of choice for the routine management of untreated lepromatous leprosy.

Rice is one of the most important staple crops worldwide. However, the bacterial blight of rice caused by Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae (Xoo) poses a major threat to the production of rice.
