Robotically assisted gynaecological surgery.

Industry has used robots successfully for fine, delicate, repetitive tasks for decades. Recently, robots have been introduced into clinical medicine and specifically into the surgical suite. Voice algorithms have been developed that allow voice activation of some types of equipment in the operating room, such as the laparoscope or the light source. Advances in computer software have allowed a computer controller to translate a surgeon's movements from the handles located in a console to the robotic arms that hold the surgical instruments. This console is placed away from the surgical table. Cl

Learning curve in image-based robotic assisted total knee arthroplasty: a MAKO-robot experience.

PURPOSE: Robotic-assisted total knee arthroplasty (RA-TKA) is increasingly used to improve implant positioning, soft-tissue balance, and procedural reproducibility. Yet, little is known about how different components of the operation independently contribute to the overall learning curve. This study aimed to characterize the learning curve of MAKO-assisted TKA by separately evaluating these components and assessing their differential impact on operative workflow. METHODS: A retrospective observational study included 92 consecutive patients who underwent image-based RA-TKA (MAKO, Stryker) for

Delayed gastric emptying after robot-assisted pancreatoduodenectomy: the Transatlantic Robot Pancreas Consortium (TROPANC).

BACKGROUND: Delayed gastric emptying (DGE) is the most common complication of robot-assisted pancreatoduodenectomy (RPD). Large differences exist in DGE rate between centers and it remains unclear to what extent these are associated with surgical technique. This study assessed differences in DGE rate after RPD and predictors for DGE, including gastrojejunostomy (GJ) technique. METHODS: Binational, multicenter retrospective cohort study including patients undergoing RPD from seven centers in the United States of America (USA) and the Netherlands (NL) (2011-2023). Data were retrospectively obta

Robot-assisted sacrocolpopexy using the Hugo-RAS system: initial series with no experience in robotic surgery.

BACKGROUND: Pelvic organ prolapse (POP) is a common condition in women that negatively impacts the quality of life, including symptoms and effects on body image and sexuality. Robotic-assisted sacrocolpopexy (RASC) is established as a gold-standard treatment for POP, and most published evidence concerns the da Vinci robotic platform. New robotic systems are expanding the technological landscape; the Hugo-RAS platform is one of the most popular of them. Published experience with Hugo-RAS has focus mainly on prostate cancer and typically comes from centers with previous da Vinci experience. RASC

Feasibility of robotic single-incision colorectal surgery utilizing a multiport robotic platform: a case series.

The advent of a single port robotic platform offers many potential improvements compared with single incision laparoscopy for both patients and surgeons. However, the technology will likely be prohibitively expensive for most hospitals. This is a retrospective review of adult patients who underwent our (rSIS) technique for a colorectal indication from December 2023 to April 2025. The primary aim of this study was to report our unique, single-incision robotic surgery (rSIS) technique utilizing a fascial wound protector device and a multiport robotic surgical system in colorectal surgery. Wearable Robot Design Optimization Using Closed-Form Human-Robot Dynamic Interaction Model.

Wearable robots are emerging as a viable and effective solution for assisting and enabling people who suffer from balance and mobility disorders. Virtual prototyping is a powerful tool to design robots, preventing the costly iterative physical prototyping and testing. Design of wearable robots through modelling, however, often involves computationally expensive and error-prone multi-body simulations wrapped in an optimization framework to simulate human-robot-environment interactions. This paper proposes a framework to make the human-robot link segment system statically determinate, allowing f

The three-year survivorship of robotically assisted versus non-robotically assisted unicompartmental knee arthroplasty.

AIM: There has been a significant reduction in unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) procedures recorded in Australia. This follows several national joint registry studies documenting high UKA revision rates when compared to total knee arthroplasty (TKA). With the recent introduction of robotically assisted UKA procedures, it is hoped that outcomes improve. This study examines the cumulative revision rate of UKA procedures implanted with a newly introduced robotic system and compares the results to one of the best performing non-robotically assisted UKA prostheses, as well as all other non-

Robotically-assisted laparoscopic biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch: the utility of the robotic system in bariatric surgery.

Biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch (BPD/DS) is considered the most effective surgical option for morbidly obese patients. Several techniques have been described: open, laparoscopic, and the combination of open and laparoscopic. Only a few centers in the world perform robotically-assisted laparoscopic BPD/DS and the published literature is limited. We describe our experience using this technique as a safe alternative for treatment of morbid obesity. A review of a prospectively maintained database from 2008 to 2011 was conducted. A total of 107 consecutive patients (F:M = 83:24) were
